General Discussion / Re: Roleplaying Focus
« on: May 08, 2008, 11:19:08 pm »
The playerbase is small, yes... But that's not always a bad thing. The game being RP oriented, we drive off many people who just want to play, not RP (Which is why Blizz sets up 4 types of servers: Normal, PvP, RP, RPPvP). To me, though... that's a godsend. I'd much rather roleplay than listen to whiny little 12 year olds, who are going through the fussies because of puberty, complain and moan for some reason or  another (Which is why I NEVER seek parties in Guild Wars... My henchies and heroes are smarter AND don't whine! :o ). The fact that PS is a full RP world is what I loved (maybe still) about it.

Just my 2 tria.

General Discussion / Re: What makes you not want to RP?
« on: May 08, 2008, 11:10:01 pm »
What makes me not want to RP? People who are bad at it and try to make themselves gods amongst men as soon as they join. THAT bothers me to no end, and is why I quit in the first place. When I came back, I found out that my characters significant other left because I left, and the same old people were god-modding to beat be band, so I left again. I'm back (again), and maybe this time to stay... we'll see.

What makes me want to roleplay? A good, hard story/plot, people who can do a fight without the damnable dueling system (rolling is ftw. Use it =P), people who WORK for their power. A willingness to roleplay WITHOUT having it initiated by someone else. If you have to start roleplay by announcing your characters arrival with fanfare and trumpets, do so! (Anyone remember Nixe being her depressed little self in a corner of the tavern, drinking herself away? Yeah.)

How good at roleplaying am I? I'm not one to judge, but I will leave you with a quote for Noriin... or... That one elf dude who she loved whose name I cannot for the life of me remember "This is Nixe, he's one of the major roleplayers here." Take that as you will =/

P.S.: Nixe is back... Phear me ;D

EDIT: VELH! That's his name (the elf). And BTW PS team. You do a wonderful job on the world, despite its many bugs. Keep it up.

Prelude:

Nixe Rathesteel... The name itself can explain a lot about this fenki. Her very existence is an oddity that not even she can explain. Her story begins in they valley overlooked by the Eagle Fortress. She was born to a quaint little village, her parents both farmers, just trying to make it by. After many years of living in this little village, though, one day her mother started exhibiting signs of pregnancy... Her belly began to grow, mornings became an unwanted experience, and she began to glow (no, not literally!). The problem was... She did not glow a happy glow as did most mothers-in-waiting. Her glow seemed sickly, the babe within her belly draining her of her very essence. The parents of Nixe, however, being simple folk, knew nothing of curses and thus suspected naught. One day, about 7 months into her pregnancy, Nixe's mother finally fell deathly ill. Her body seemed to be withering before the very eyes of Nixe's father! Action had to be taken, and it was. Nixe's father gathered up every single tria they owned, even sold some of their furniture to earn more, and traveled to Hydlaa, to the great temple that lies there. They were intent upon getting mother and babe blessed by the priest at the time, in order to save both... Or one, should the former case prove impossible. Luckily, they were both saved... But the curse still remained, only balanced out by the priests blessing. The parents of Nixe returned home, and the next two months went by as normally as possible. That was all shattered by the birth of the couple's baby...

Chapter 1
The Mark of the Curse

Loud cries came from a shack in the center of the small village. Cries of a newborn babe, stolen from the comforts of the womb and tossed headlong into the harsh lights and sounds of the outside world. Even from the moment Nixe was delivered from the womb, she was deemed "different, special", much like the adults termed the local psychopath. From the moment she was born, her hairless body had a mark on it... This was not a birthmark, not the mark of some birth defect... It was the mark of a curse. The tender pink flesh had a harsh, jet black mark marring its surface. The marks nature was as uncertain as its manifestation upon Nixes chest, for none had been to the surface to be able to recognize it... The marks shape was that of a crescent moon, it's tips pointing down to her foot-paws, enclosed within a thin, black circle. The same moment she was severed from the womb, she was declared a demon, a hell-spawn. Her own father suggested she be put down on the spot, only her mother stood up for the babe. Nixe's mother took her into her arms, cuddling the poor, mewling child. "How can you even /think/ of hurting an innocent child?! Can you not see she is your own flesh and blood, Genrac? She is ours, whether you want her or not..." Those words became something Nixe became accustomed to as she grew up... "Whether you want me or not..."

Chapter 2
A Child and her Demons

Growing up, Nixe was the outcast. Nobody would play with her, adults gave her strange looks, even her parents found it hard to look upon their child at times. To her, it was normal, just another day, another odd look. By the time she was 8 years of age, the situation had only gotten worse. Often she would go off on her own to stare for hours on end into a pond that rested at the base of the cliffs. It was on one such venture that peoples fears were deemed true. Nixe had found herself a nice little perch on the ramp leading up to the fortress atop the waterfall when a patrolling guard came across her and shouted. This alone startled the poor child, but then the guard grabbed her. That was a mistake. Wiggling and writhing, trying to get out of the guards grasp, Nixe grabbed hold of the shouting guards wrist, and then... It happened. At first, it was minute, the guard only thought it to be a cold draft. But shortly, his skin began to pale, his blood turned to ice, and his eyes dilated as he stared at horror at the child that was sapping his very life right out of him. His muscles began to wither, seeming to age the man immensely. Shortly, the man could not even stand beneath the weight of his plate mail armor, and he fell with a crash to the ground. Young Nixe stared, shocked, at what just happened before her very eyes, and much to her dismay, her father had come looking to see what the commotion was about. Genrac dragged the withered husk of a soldier back to the village, all the way spouting things best not repeated at his scared and confused little girl.

Chapter 3
A Lapse Into Insanity

General Discussion / Re: Pronouncing your name....

Nixe Rathesteel: First name pronounced like Nicks or Nicks-uh. I prefer the first one myself =P. Rathesteel is pronounced like Wraith-steel... Purty obvious ^_^;

Few others, too... Some pretty obvious pronunciation-wise, and one that everyone mispronounces  ::) *cough*Neikos*cough*

Wish list / Re: Daggers... Too Powerful for Small Sticks of Metal?
« on: February 04, 2007, 12:01:13 am »
Eh, this is just my two cents, so feel free to ignore it, but hey, worth a shot, no? =P

Like someone said earlier (I forget who) , the mechanic, while nowhere near the point of being a realistic battle system, should work a little something like this: Two people fighting, you've got one with a Longsword and one with a Dagger. The guy with a Longsword obviously has a range advantage. That being said, it will be harder for the guy with daggers to close the distance, because if you have a guy/gal with a longsword swinging at you, you aren't going to have a chance to get close unless you dodge, and take the advantage of his off-balance state and close the distance while he's coming around for another swing. Some weapons would have longer opportunities to get in close and strike than others. And some weapons, like the pike and in some cases the axe, would have problems swinging when the foe is up in the users face (due to the blade only being at the tip), but a sword could, while not as easily as a dagger, use the base of the blade (the part near the hilt) to strike, albeit it would not be as strong as if done at normal range.

Another thing, there should (and maybe will be) more than just offence when wielding two blades, or one and a shield (I think there already is, but what I mean is varying degrees, i.e. Bloody- no blocking with either of your weapons and reduces blocking with your shield, Normal- Attack with your primary weapon, parry half and strike half with your off-hand weapon, defensive (not full defensive)- Swing with your primary, but always parry with your off-hand, Full Defense(the mages best friend)-Never attack, parry with both primary and off-hand). There should be a riposte mechanic, meaning sometimes you simply deflect the blow from your body (a block) and sometimes, based on the skill gap betweent he two fighters, you knock the weapon away, knocking your foe off balance and giving yourself an chance to get in an extra attack. Obviously different weapons would have different values. A dagger is hardly the weapon of choice for parrying (or so I believe, don't quote me, I've never actually fought with weapons  :sweatdrop: ) because of it's small size. but a smaller weapon, not heavy to move quickly, but not too small to parry effectively, such as a short sword, would be better for parrying, and the best thing for parrying would be the shield (having different values based on size and weight. (I.E. an infiltrator, should he so choose to use a shield, would like a buckler, but a knight, who isn't going to move fast anyway, would like a tower shield for the coverage)

Honestly, I believe the only way to make the fighting system as close to perfect as it can get is to make it similar to Rakion. Not exactly like... there would be alot of conflicting between the skills system and the ability to control every swing you do.

Anyway, I'm done ranting now  :sweatdrop: . I don't really care weather the game ever gets to the point of perfection combat-wise, I love the game simply for the RP and the ability to live without killing, but I will admit... it would be nice.

P.S.: If at any point this does not make sense, that's cause I went through once, went back and added more, and did it again. So if it seems spotty or jumpy at some points, there's why, folks  :P

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Ojaroad is Black!
« on: November 07, 2005, 12:57:35 am »
The trees and my character look as if they have light shining on them, as do the giant rocks, and that insanely huge, physics defying rock in the middle of it all, but all of the rest (other than the afore mentioned and the sky) is nearly black. I can only see the contrast between the road and the grass if  I get two inches from my screen and squint. I\'ve died three times now cause I didn\'t see the drop/slide below me and I fell. Just need to know if that\'s me, or it\'s the game, cause I just reinstalled and it\'s still there =P.

I\'m not sure what you are talking about... I logged on a few minutes ago and fell/slid off of a cliff/hill. DR was exactly the same for me. No matter how many times i update it\'s all the same.

I updated and ran Planeshift. After I ran Planeshift, i joined the server. When i got to the character selection screen i only had my one character, Tris. Both the \"Join\" and the \"Create New Caracter\" buttons where gone, and even when i clicked where they were supposed to be, nothing. Did the rain update screw something up?

Personally, i like the idea of longer head fur on enkis. mostly because more people can have an origianal(forgive my spelling) character in the world. But if The devs don\'t like that idea, they could at least do something like Red XIII (from FF7) Granted this would be considered a mane, it doesn\'t have to be free flowing, they could braid it to give it a little style
