Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) /
« on: June 27, 2005, 03:52:33 am »
Speaking of server messages, I keep getting these messages that I \"shouldn\'t be receiving,\" and then my game quits.  Is this a server problem, or am I to blame?

What if praying to a deity and donating to the temple could grant favors like.........a helping hand through the land of death?  A guiding light perhaps?  A shortcut?  I don\'t believe that would unbalance the game too much, as it only gives a minor convenience.

Why do you have to be 18 to contribute to the game?  I\'d like  to help out, but I\'m too young :(.  Does Planeshift need any help in the music department?

How do you prevent people who aren\'t interested in alchemy from picking mushrooms just to sell them to someone else?

The left-handed characters are just as important as characters that have different colored hair.  It wouldn\'t be to identify one person from another, but rather give a sense of realism and depth to the game.  I don\'t care that I can\'t identify someone by what they look like, but I don\'t want them to look exactly like me.  8o Freaky!!

Wish list / Tree Sections
« on: June 04, 2005, 06:17:55 am »
As the trees mature, they should have tree sections.  A small tree would just have generic wood, bark, and leaves.  Once trees mature, you could begin differentiating between hardwood in the core and softer wood on the outside.  Leaves (once dried) and Bark could be used to make tinder boxes, but would also require flint and steel (supplied by a miner).  I think the game would become more balanced if many actions would require multiple skills.

Poison mushrooms in the right hands should be able to make many different things.  Even beneficial things.  An antidote for mushroom poison.  Voodoo spells.  Coupled with gauze and some hard work, a healing wrap or poultice.  The right mushroom with some cooking skill (used to cook out the poison) gives a good mushroom (maybe better than those that you find in the wild).

Wish list / Coat of Arms
« on: June 04, 2005, 03:45:34 am »
We could copy the Coat of Arms idea.  That\'s been public domain for the longest time.  However, we wouldn\'t leave the design to just shields.  Armor could have a coat on it, and those who only wear robes could wear those sandwich boards that say \"Eat at Joe\'s\", but they\'d have guild coats.  It might be a little hard to identify at first, but you\'d soon learn which coats are important to your character and guild.  You could put the guild info in the description to aid with guild coat identification.  You\'d have to place a Heraldry expert in town to paint the signs, and abandoned guilds would have to retire their coats to ensure that new guilds can create designs.  I think this would fit into the game environment.  After all, the development team asks music department applicants to have a feel for medieval music.

Wish list / A dark and foggy night
« on: June 04, 2005, 03:29:08 am »
I read somewhere that the first Silent Hill for Playstation used fog to cover up the console\'s inability to see long distances.  The article also said it made the game spooky.  I suppose it depends on what kind of fogging you use.  I don\'t know how skyboxes work, but maybe the box could be changed to resemble clouds and fog, so when viewing distances longer than the allowed sight range, you\'d see a skybox that looked like fog, not sky.  [Disclaimer] I am not an expert on programming or map-making.  The above opinions cannot be used in place of an expert\'s.  These statements have not been validated by the Food and Drug Administration [\\Disclaimer]
P.S. What if there was a childhood experience that made the character afraid of fog? That would give the game more depth.
