Sure, MB can stand for message board.  I don\'t think they were yelling at you for not knowing that.  If there was any yelling going on it was probably because you didn\'t even bother to read the main planeshift site at http://www.planeshift.it/main_01.html  which would have answered your question straight off.

Not having knowledge is one thing.  Having knowledge available and refusing to spend a little time looking up answers is another.  How many people do we see every day on these boards asking stupid questions that are already answered on the PS page or in FAQ\'s?  I haven\'t posted a lot here, but I\'ve been watching the boards for a while and there are a lot of newcomers who bypass the PS site completely, then want someone here to explain everything to them.  It gets redundant.  The newcomers around here who do their homework and know what they are talking about rarely get jumped on by anyone.

Elentor, what about those who actually lurk through the forums and main page, then come out of hiding with intelligent comments?  This does happen occasionally, really!  Or people who spend lots of time at other PS based boards (like Kada-El\'s or a guild page) and drop by here occasionally?

I think this is a good idea because it helps add more dimensions to the game play for those of us who would like to have non-fighting characters.  The polytheistic religion fits in well because there are already a number of gods in the back story for PS. In addition maybe there could be some minor ones for each type of occupation that could help your chances of doing well if you devote some time to worship.  We could see quests from the gods or a religious jihad between the followers of Laanx and Talad.

Or we could tie religion to magic in some ways so that a priest of a very high level would wield some of his/her god\'s magic.   I\'m envisioning a smaller god who is the patron of, say, mining.  So a character who doesn\'t fight but makes a living mining ores could also spend a portion of his/her time at the temple doing religious things and get some sort of bonus in abilities or maybe in ore production from their mines as a reward from the god.  It couldn\'t be a big major thing, I guess, but maybe characters who became high priests of this god would be able to mine for more rare materials more easily.

Possibly the gods of each profession would recieve recognition in the various guilds?  Or different gods for each race?  Although that one could be tough, how many gods for how many races, and who would keep track of them all?  Just throwing out ideas here :)

Any keyboard that goes out of its way to cause typos should be consigned to the fire, or at least fed to someone. :D

(FMiddy, you\'re scaring me.  Stalking royalty is a dangerous thing - they usually have big mean bodyguards!)

Look back over those posts again guys.  Link only flames the idiots who show up and mouth off.  We could use a little more of that in this world - maybe it would teach them to think before acting.  I, for one, am thinking of applying for a teaching/enforcing position at Link\'s Grammar School,  because the more time I spend around here the more I want to make some people eat their keyboards...

...er, not you guys though, I\'m just randomly ranting and raving...

wow.

Sheela, let\'s talk about how hard it is to read anything with this many spelling errors and run on sentences.  If you want to get your point across, try typing correctly so that you don\'t sound like a 3 year old and get flamed by everyone here.
...and of course you didn\'t appreciate that comic.  It must have hit way too close to home!

This is kind of interesting - the only sword I\'ve used for martial arts weighs about three pounds and even granting that I\'m not really strong in the arms, practicing forms with it is really tiring after a while.  I can\'t imagine anything over seven pounds being used by characters who aren\'t massively muscled.  And yes, how do you miss someone stealing this from you?  Just my two cents on that one...

About being a thief, there are a couple points that we aren\'t looking at.  There is a difference between being able to pickpocket small things on the street and being able to break into places and take bigger stuff.  I mean if I saw someone stealing from someone else on the street and it was really obvious, (being a do-gooder) I\'d be likely to find out who the thief was and publicize it at least.  Perhaps these would work best as different thief skills, one for sleight of hand type pickpocketing and another for the lock picking and not being discovered type of theft.  I really like the idea of not being able to sell hot merchandise to just any merchant because it provides characters some time to track down their stuff and get it back from whoever stole it, and considering the number of thieves out there it could make anyone who is a fence really rich.

This raises another question - in the towns will there be some form of police to keep order and catch/punish criminals?  If so, are these npc or are they open to any of us?  Hmmm... this could get way too complex....

This sounds like a great idea for quests later on when we\'ve explored everything in the PS world.   Possibly would be a good sequel or something.  Whoa, did I actually just say that?  A sequel to a game that is still in alpha??  Man, I get carried away sometimes.  Still I like the idea of eventually visiting other races\' homeworlds.  8)

Even as a joke, it\'s brought up an issue that seems to push our buttons pretty well.  Part of the idea of an RPG is to create your character for a fantasy world and then live up to your creation.  Most GM\'s that I know try hard to encourage their gamers to stay in character.  Fact is, I don\'t want to role play a fantasy game with a bunch of people who type like they are trying to be inner city gangsters (whether they are in real life, or not).  Going out of one\'s way to type in cryptograms is a pain and hard to decipher.  Not to mention being nearly impossible for those of us who don\'t speak English as a first language.  In the end it all comes down to individual choice, I know, but I for one would like to see the d00d speak kept to a minimum.

:D Hmmm - what do you think, he\'s working on a higher number of posts?  Because of course anything over 500 is too few  ;) ;)

Welcome to PlaneShift, Simon :)  As to what Kiern (or any of the rest of us) is doing, you might check out the different guilds and organizations that have already been created for the game, and the various ideas that are being contributed to the developers every day on these forums.  For those (like me) who don\'t have programing skills, that\'s about all we can do right now.  The next release should be out any day now, they say . . . .

Oh dear, and just when I was finally able to log in :(  I thought it was just my computer, but I guess I\'m not the only one to get the critical error message.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /

Welcome ZenofaX, hope you realize this is still at the tech demo stage.  There\'s not any actual gaming going on right now.  Even if you did get connected, all you can do is walk around. (although if you fall through the floor you can walk all the way out of the city until you hit a wall)  Hang out and read these boards for a while and pretty soon Molecular Blue will come out.  If you are still insanely determined to walk around in-game, just keep trying to connect and eventually the server will let you in :)

This is really neat -  and it could be expanded far beyond just weapons.  For non-combatant characters there could be tools or recipes, like a Hammer of Energy that would interact with a smith to make protective armor (if he\'s angelic) or something that increases strength (if he\'s chaotic).  Other skills could be included too, with perhaps a loom for the weavers, or potion ingredients that behave differently for alchemists based on the character\'s alignment, or a staff of power for the mages that has different abilities for angelic/chaotic users.  I think the different abilities should be included with the item\'s stats though, so the user is aware of what it can do . . .

Just running with that thought because I liked it, I\'m not sure how hard it would be for the devs to implement.

Beer!  Now that\'s something I\'d like to see in MB!  Guess I\'ll have to wait for the finished product, though ;)  Happy holidays Vicious, and welcome :)
