Linux Specific Issues / Re: Specs/Versions
« on: September 13, 2006, 09:03:58 am »
Ack!  I only just saw this....

Just upgraded to Mandriva 2006 (kernel ver. 2.6.12) a week or so ago.  PS 3.015b worked fine so far, save a few sound glitches.

gcc 4.0.1
glibc 2.3.5

General Discussion / Re: Shields off in memory of Gloki

/adopts a somber look.

Alas, Gloki, I knew him well.  He was the first soul in Hydlaa to help me when I was yet new to the world.  His mirth will be missed.

By the way, has his altar-ego, Rarunel, been about lately?  He appeared for awhile after Gloki disappeared, only to disappear again.  It has been some time.

In any case, thank you for the post and the photo shoot.  It was very appropriate and enables us to rember a departed member.

Good news indeed!  If anything it seems worse as of late--it used to only dump me in the arena, I\'ve now have my server crash in Hydlaa Plaza, on Ojaroad, and a couple of other places.

The Arena\'s the only place that has entirely \"locked me out\" so far, though.

Thanks in advance for your hard work on this.  :)

Will have?  The game is already further along than you think.  Several of the jobs posted here (Teacher, Trainer, Ranger, Hunter, Warrior, etc.) are already being RP\'d in-game.  All that is lacking is a larger community to create a more tangible need of these things.  Some of these jobs, for sure, will require a bit more framework in-game.  But as an example, what ever happened to the Pie-Lovers Guild? ;)

I\'ve already ended up playing diplomat, recruiter, and counselor.  These alone I think will be enough for me for awhile.  :)

Just to clarify, I guess I was thinking of these ads being done for a final rollout of the completed game.  :P

When we eventually get there, how about a commercial contest, with several winners?  The final selections could be hosted/distributed and all of the others could be posted on a \"rollout\" site, or something.

Ideas, that\'s all these are.  ;)

Actually, we have masscom students here at the University I work at who do this kind of thing all the time--just for class projects.  What would be the harm in having one made and then distributed all over the web?  A couple students here just were finalists for the X-box commercial contest.  ;)

I actually love the concept--and it would actually have a lot more impact done very simply, as steuben originally wrote it.  The idea captures the idea of a RP community, the \"faces behind the scenes,\" as it were, and the positive side of imagination very succinctly.  Simple, but elegant, it speaks to me!  :)

Thank you for your hard work, Andrew.  Please don\'t overwork yourself on our account, we can be patient (/me dodges angry glances from others in the room).  ;)

Just out of curiosity, does this update fix the nasty Coreanimation crash bug in the arena?

Also, as long as people are talking about linux auto-compile scripts, hasn\'t there already been one developed here?  (Not that I\'ve actually tried it yet myself--I\'m expecting I\'m probably going to have to get my build environment up to snuff before I can be successful with it).

It also happens in the arena on the stairs. The game crashes everytime I get into the game. For a secend i can see my character than the game crashes with the same error
psclient.bin: coreanimation.cpp:240: void CalCoreAnimation::getPose(float, std::vector >& const: Assertion `time >= 0.0f && \"time must be > 0\"\' failed.

My character is a diaboli. I think it had nothing to do with the races.

Can someone tell me how I can get back in the game with my character without creating a newone? Please let me know when you have an answer.

Same problem, same place for me.  One month later. :( Console output:
planeshift.application.client:
  PSLoader: step 5: success
psclient.bin: coreanimation.cpp:240: void CalCoreAnimation::getPose(float, std::vector >&) const: Assertion `time >=0.0f && \"time must be > 0\"\' failed.
Aborted

I updated (saved and restored my smallinventory.xml, of course), and still have the same problem.  I can\'t even move my character so I won\'t crash every time the game loads.  Did anyone ever come up with a solution (short of compiling from scratch, of course--I\'m no programmer--I can never seem to get my build environment complete enough for projects this big.  :P ).

Welcome back, Brother Dwarf, your presence was sorely missed.  Ye who led me on my first steps in Yliakum, and who always brightened Hydlaa Plaza with your antics.  :)

It is a joy to have you back with us, and I look forward to seeing you again in-game!  You will find much has transpired since you were last here.  ;)

Andrew, your patience and steadfastness, in both
troubleshooting the PS code and also putting up with
a horde of \"gotta-get-my-PS-fix\" gamers (myself
included), is nothing short of astounding.  Thanks
for the enlightening primer, and Bless You for your
contributions to the game and to the PS community
in general!

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Same Problem
« on: November 07, 2005, 09:35:48 am »
I\'ve been having the same problem.  Try to respawn and end up on the \"floor\" of the DR--and some of the landscape seems corrupted.

I checked and sure enough--my \"deathrealm.zip\" file is 15.7 megs, even though I saw my updater download the 17.1 1MB file earlier.  :(

So what\'s the fix?  I updated twice and had the same problem--it must keep using the same mirror.  Is there a way to point the updater to one of the uncorrupted mirror sites?

I was going to post this in the Linux client area, but searched first and found this thread.

Indeed this is a sorry loss.  Thank you for your kind words, Moogie.

Every day that another honorable player leaves, and every day that a less-than-honorable player manifests him/herself ingame, with no recourse of discipline, the positive effects of this community--for both the sake of the game itself and yes, for the people who are in it--is put more in jeopardy.

When an outstanding community member leaves due to the manifestations of \"evil,\" \"foul play,\" or \"call-it-whatever-you-will,\" the community owes it to itself to reflect on the reasons why and to endeavor to rectify the problems so they do not fester and grow.  We attempt to do this first in-game, under the rules established by the devs, but in any case there should be no harm seen in noting a community members\' passing.

This should be a \"red-flag\" moment for those of you who are long in this world and care about it greatly.  If you think this a small thing I respectfully suggest you check out Master Bod\'s posts here:

http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=16211&boardid=18&sid=f934fb2cb0dc9362778bfe69b7f93f8b&page=8

Master Bodacher is not the only person who has left for these reasons.  Do you not see the negative effects this has on the future of the Planeshift community?

This is more than the loss of a friend, it is the loss of such an outstanding community member, one who contributed much to this wonderful world.  Noting his passing from PS and remembering the good service he has done here is an honorable thing.

/me sadly raises his mug in a salute to Master Bodacher.
