Interesting, I\'ve never gotten stuck on the ladder itself.  I always get stuck in two places.  One in that little entry way right after the bridge and the second is when your going from the ledge of the cliff up to the the section that has the latter.

Well, on Linux I use Anjuta as an IDE which uses gcc/g++ for the actual compiling and I use Dev-C++ on Windows.

Dev-C++ - http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html

Planeshift isn\'t exactly a project for a beginner.  You should take some time to learn and really understand the concepts of C++ and learn to program smaller apps and work your way up.

You don\'t nessisarly need to be the \"uber leet\" programmer, but you should be able to complete some basic projects in C++ even if it is something simple thats been done a billion times because that goes a very long way.

If you do however believe that you have the required expierence then you can first begin by learning to compile and run planeshift.  Browse the config files and learn a little bit about how it works and browse the source files as well.

If you need help building PS, then you can join us at (irc.freenode.net 6667) #planeshift-build and we\'ll be happy to step you through the processe.  stfrn (bless his heart) spent several days with me until I was able to compile PS and get it running.  I would gladly pass that knowledge forword.

Run the updater and see if that helps.  Also it could be that the server is lagging when loading your character in which case its not your fault and there is nothing you can do except to try again later.

edit: and for the future, dont make a topic titled \"help\" instead try something like \"characte selection screen not being displayed\" or something to that effect.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /

Well it might be impossible for a GM to move someone while they are offline however if someone has access to the database (talad, i would think?) they can edit it so that your character is in a different location.  Try PMing him about it.

Post your character name and hopefully a GM will see this and will move your character for you.

Well, the sound bug has improved quite drastically so that it crashes far less often.  However in certain locations, like the tavern (for me anyway) the game crashes.

Does it happen ONLY near the magic shop?  Also, I assume your using windows.  Do you get any message that asks you to \"end task\" or anything like that or does it just minimize and maximize again?

You could try disabling sound.  It\'s pretty buggy and is known to cause crashes in several locations.

Checking for it would be a better idea, if it\'s possible. Not everyone has a crap nVidia board.

That\'s true, but I wouldn\'t see any real disadvantage to non-nvidea users of having these settings as default.  Maybe pssetup could include a \"nvidea gfx\" checkbox and you could check/uncheck as needed.

Also is this a bug with nvidea or not?  A developer that knows more about rendering and stuff might want to tell nvidea what graphics function they used that caused this effect and let them know and maybe they can release an updated driver.

Actually I\'m not 100% sure this is a CS problem. I also have exactly the same problem on my computer (using a GF4Go) but Crystal Space works perfectly fine. I\'m currently investigating what exactly is going on so hopefully I\'ll find the cause of the problem soon.

Greetings,

Hmm... interesting.  I am glad you were able to find a fix though!  I was probebly too quick to assume it was CS but I assumed the problem lied within CS because it is a rendering issue.

Also will this fix become default in the next update of Planeshift?

You can\'t use the latest snapshots of CS or CEL.  They change far to rapidly and the latest version doesnt work.  So far July 28 or July 29th versions have been the closest to successe, but there are still errors.

The closest I\'ve gotten is having everything working except psserver wont work because it cant detect CEL and CEL reports...

\"...failed LinkPlugin pfmove.dll\"

So far I havn\'t heard of anyone, other than the Devs successfully compiling PS and I think they might be using some wierd version of CS or CEL.  Hopefully the Devs will fill us in on the dates we need, but so far, to my knowledge, no one else has been able to compile.

I am not trying to hijack your thread, but I just want to post some bugs I have also expierenced and I want to keep the thread count down.

1. The window buttons (stats, buddy list, ect) sometimes dont appear.  I\'ve only had this happen once but I had to restart Planeshift and they appeared the 2nd time around.

2. You sometimes have to use /unstick twice in order to get unstuck because it will sometimes move you to a location that causes you to fall off a bridge or something (eg: using /unstick if you fall off the bridge in the death realm)

3. Death Realm is 100x more \"stickier\" than it was before.  I consider my self lucky if I can get through it without getting stuck.   I often get stuck 3 or 4 times before I am able to get past it.

4. Tavern in Hydlaa has a lot of graphics issues.  A lot of flickering and it also lags because of it.  I once even had windows xp had me \"end task\" on pcclient when I walked into the tavern

5. Some enemies dont attack back.  I was able to fight monsters a couple of times and they basically stood there and took it.

6. When selecting Yliam as your race.  You were not allowed to create any background info (ie: your parents and birthday) without getting a \"no race selected\" error.  You simply had to upload your character with the default settings.

Still though, despite these bugs, I think the devs did a wonderful job.  My heart and thanks goes out to them!

Yes, the server is crashing and they are working on it.  acraig said that the server is expierencing core dumps which cause psserver to crash.  I can tell you right now that adding more exclamation points (!) to the end of your sentances won\'t help you get a response faster, nor fix the server.

Is it just me or did this thread make a 180?  This thread is about the 0.3.011 bittorrent people!  NOT the updater.  If your having problems with the updater try looking at one of the other billion threads.
