Indeed - the planeshift link is now dead.

Seems, someone has deleted it in the meantime.
Well, as long no one restores it, there will be then
no information about planeshift in the de.wikipedia.

I personaly don\'t think a wikipedia should be for \"really\" important things only.

Why? Because you don\'t need a wiki for important things only. Really important things are much easier to find with googles, because google does exactly that: Sorting things depending on how important it is (thats what their ranking systems are for).

And: What is important? Who defines it? There are some base line, of course. Like: Personal information from people who are not from \"public interest\". Or snapshots from your life like in a blog. Or how much ducks there are in the pool next to your house.

But planeshift is important for enough people. There are of course alot more important things which are less known. But thats still no reason not to list planeshift. There is no negative impact which would have a list of planeshift to more important things... You know?

Good sorted and layouted information is always a valuable source. Perhaps it leads you to more important stuff. Link planeshift with the problems of computer games. Now you have increased the value of both.

But how valuable is a link about problems of computer games in a wikipedia where are no computer game listed? Or only the real big ones? Will you give that a realistic view about the reality when you read? Perhaps people without any knowledge think: Hey, there are not much games, what are they talk about?

Thats a constructed argument of course. Its only to point out, that there is, in my opinion, no reason to delete the mmorpg links just because they are not \"important\".

And even when: Then we should talk about it. And don\'t construct some wrong arguments like the guys there in the wikipedia to kick them out. Thats not right.

And please: Lets try to talk serious. The fact, that someone has deleted in the meantime the planeshift link really not means this thread was created to abuse this board.

I would have perhaps created this topic even without the planeshift link. Then asking \"mmorpg are deleted there. Is that ok? Planeshift itself is a big community and will perhaps have some impact to the mmorpg markted - as one of the first non commercial games in this area ever. Thats not a reason to write about it and show it to the public in a wikipedia?\"

At last - it is something people can talk about.

Thats because the current 2d client from daimoin is fixed to 800x600. We go at daimonin a different way as planeshift. I have done only a \"dummy\" client in 2d coded because my focus was the server and the technology. The 3d client is now on the way as smooth scrolling (for coding a AI, pathfinding and object managment you don\'t need that ).

But please: This is not the place to talk about this and which mmorpg is better or not. We should talk about what i posted.

General Discussion / German Wikipedia wants delete Planeshift
« on: July 28, 2005, 05:23:47 pm »
Hello

I am the Projektleader from Daimonin ... Hello... ;)

I am here because there is something which needs the attention of the (open source) MMOPRG Community at once. This is related to the german Wikipedia. I will explain it in english and then change to german - even this is german it really needs the attention of all of you.

Here is what happens:

In the german Wikipedia, 4 MMORPG are put in the \"delete it\" page. Means, the Articles abou that MMORPG should be deleted. The reasons are pure nonsense. Mainly \"the mmorpg is in beta\" - they don\'t know the difference between a normal beta and a mmorpg open beta - or what a open source project means.

They even mislisted Priston Tale instead of Planeshift. So, Planeshift looks not listed on the first glance but then named in the Priston Tale part too.

The whole thread are in german of course, so now i will describe it. The worst part is about Saga of Ryzom. Which is called there \"Vaporware\" and \"back to alpha, kick them out\". Very, very sad...

Here is the link - its GERMAN of course:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:L%C3%B6schkandidaten/25._Juli_2005#Priston_Tale

So, what we need a german speaking people, telling them what the mmorpg community thinks about this kind of behaviour!

Now, i need to change to german - because the answers there should be in german. I am pretty sure people in this thread will tell you non german speaking people whats going on then.

So, now german:

Hier startet es: Thang Online, SoR, Prinston Tale & Planeshift  und Daimonin.

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:L%C3%B6schkandidaten/25._Juli_2005#Thang_Online

Lest es euch durch - es IST unter aller Sau. Zu Daimonin habe ich schon was geschrieben. Eure Meinung ist dort auch wichtig.

Ich denke ihr findet das genau so unm?glich wie ich.
