General Discussion / aye the cap is a bit odd
« on: August 04, 2005, 11:56:00 am »
i deleted said file Bluefreeze.wav and then ran patch and it downloaded the bluefreeze in caps, so then i changed the file to lower case and ran patch again and it simply updated file to the capped version, but i suspect it should be in lowercase as the rest of the colors listed are all lower case .

edit: after i ran patch , although it said updating it, its now still lower case in my files.

what this means, i dont know

Newbie Help (Start Here) / reminds me of some table tops
« on: August 04, 2005, 08:52:03 am »
some rpgs ive played set up classes and some allowed free form character creation, one thing i noticed is that in free form we all had extensivly flushed out character concepts, while class based games were more of a \"lemme get in this ranger bot and put my seat belt on and away i go\"
for serious roleplay a free form point based system seems almost essential and im glad this game chose that direction.
think of meeting 10 people in game and all 10 having different skills. that to me is as awesome as the dali lama stoppin by for tea.

\"As for less freedom etc. Yes, to increase security we have to give up some privicy.\"

if privacy was all we were talkin about then id say open the blinds and keep me more secure.but what we are talking about is the presidents ability to now remove the citizenship of any single citizen based on nothing, absolutley nothing, then once thier citizenship is removed they are up the creek and canb be detained forever. well only until death would be more accurate.
mind you im a hypocrite as my wife works for the department of homeland security so my rent is paid thanks to  all the new legislation here in the great old USA.
about the police in the UK: of course they killed the guy because of the recent bombings and of course that means the terrorists attacks were effective. there is no way around that. if people could truley just not react to terrorism then it wouldnt be done.
no i dont think we should have taken out iraq as a warning to the world, and no i dont think the patriot act is anything but the begining of the end. but the sheeple voted yes, and the sheeple never even questioned.
this very debate is a sign of the effectiveness of terrorism  and also perhaps a sign for more authority. people want to be lead, they just dont want to be tugged too hard by thier leash.
perhaps thats crude of me to say, or insensitive but the whole world hasnt gone mad, its gone soft.
example? and this one is a win for the french:

why hasnt anyone asked where the jetliner that hit the pentagon is? where are the pieces? why was the hole so small (before the roof collapsed the hole was about 16 feet wide  and 30 high )

i can really stir things up and ask why the new york jetliners didnt have windows, what was the flash before impact seen from 4 angles? why didnt they ever show frame by frame footage even though they show frame by frame of kennedy\'s head coming off?

people spend all day arguing over reaction and it makes them totally over look and take for granted the cause.

i love my country , not my leadership but my country.
i love ideas, concepts, and i pay attention to detail in order to preserve that concept. my leadership hates people like me even to the point of saying :
\"let us not tolerate outlandish conspiracy theories that pull the blame away from the real peratrators of these terrorist attacks\"(thats a memory quote)

here is where i swing a 180 again

dont blame my cops or anyone elses cops for overreacting to a situation like some perp in a longcoat dashing away into a crowd. the are the true public servants trying to protect. they dont get any extra power from things like the patriot act, they get extra responability.

and stress

Newbie Help (Start Here) / in game racial slurs
« on: August 03, 2005, 10:25:51 am »
i bet that title grabbed some attention
but im speaking of racial slurs for the in game races
aka rockhead for kran or peck for dwarves.
im lookin for any common terms of not so endearment for the various races.perhaps you could all come up with some also.
(now i know this kinda thread can open a can of ugly worms so let it be said. clean and clever is what im looking for)
nothing in anyway affiliated with any real life slur please and thank you.

and rockhead isnt so clever so ill change that to stone dome. that flows alot better

btw i think i should get credit for Diaboli... that race is definetly designed after my wife, oh gotta run the devil woman is home now.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / i dont think roleplayin is too difficult
« on: August 03, 2005, 09:54:56 am »
this thread had alot of statements that i considered cop outs, like saying that you wanna roleplay a power  hungry warrior and thats why you power level. we always threw those types of people out of table top games, after we had their character killed off in some enjoyable way. of course you can play a power hungry vain perfectionist in a online rpg, and i dont think that means you have to be a power gamer. i had an all gnome guild in eq that were gnome supremists. none of us ever made it to high lvls because we marched around spouting gnome supremacy doctrine to all those that would hear us. man oh man those were the funnest days i can remember.
roleplaying is part of story telling. if you remember anything remember that. anyone can create a backstory for thier character. it doesnt have to be done as a book. you just think of something you consider clever, then add to it as the situation seems fit. i went back to playing eq after a 4 year break. i powergamed my old characterfrom 51 to 56 in a month on the weekends, then i got burned out by the old lvl gear lvl gear dilemma that made me quit in the first place.
any powergamer that really becomes introspective says the same thing. \"i got max level and then wondered what the race was all about. now i have nothing really new to do\"  the developers of this game have impressed me with the straight talk. to say you dont want power gamers is kinda hardcore since they make up a large base of players. but the limited history of mmorpg\'s has shown they not only suck the game of bandwidth but they travel to the top on the backs of all the gamers that are in it for the fun.
maybe thats a lil melodramatic but still, there are a ton of games nowadays. they are gonna start to cater to individual sects of people and im glad to have found one thats pushin roleplay this strong. and no mmorpg needs all the game code to be aimed at roleplay. We The People should be responsible for most of that burden. do guild events, races, drunken brawls... then move up to elaborate player run quests and schemes to entice the new roleplayers into interacting. and thats the key i think, interact with everyone.

Developers, if you wish to implement roleplaying code here are some simple ideas:
implement things that can flush out character concept....
such as... limping models, lazy eyes, tons of regular clothing, and looping emotes so i can make a character \"twitchy\"

oh and maybe a humpback

Newbie Help (Start Here) / more on "wut"
« on: August 03, 2005, 08:57:15 am »
im not even a new player to this game yet(because i created an account and then found out the server was down) but coming from alot of mmorpg\'s i want to expand on what was said. maybe this will help to explain the distain you recieve from what ive always called either \"c00l speak\" or  \"l33t speak\"
in a massive online role playing game you need at  least  3 elements:
1 it must be online, im sure no one argues that

2 it must be massive, aka you want to log in and see alot of people in town

3 is the roleplaying part. this is where the distain for l33t speak comes from. see i cant make others roleplay. but when they do the game is more fun for me. when they dont really get into the roleplaying i can dig thier hesitence, but when they speak in a way that actually draws me out of the immersivness of the world then i dont even want to interact with them.

i would rather be Player killed by an evil raced player repeatedly then hunt with someone that says things like  \"lez go get sum Ph@t L00T.. WOOT\"

but then thats just my opinion, and i am only a guy waiting to log into the game for the first time so i can be called a noob.

and on topic: the Ynnwn look to be an interesting races, even with the strong disadvantages i love to play a big beefy half demon trying to find his way in the world.
