Being able to kill townspeople would be cool - eg. if I\'m too frustrated about Jayose\'s stubborn \"I don\'t understand you!\"-replies, I could vent some anger by fighting him :D

Icing on the cake would be of course if looting then reveals the holy scroll i asked for. Though it would definitely be a bad precendent for our younger ones :) if the fighting way is easier than the talking way...

Greetings,

Wish list / Make PS editable like a Wiki!
« on: March 30, 2006, 11:11:15 pm »
This is merely a half-thought idea... The idea is to make it possible for normal people to edit the PS world or at least part of it, just like people can edit in a Wiki.

People could \"experiment\" in a sandbox-like area with creating landscapes, towns and such stuff. Maybe they could even add NPCs and build quests. If someone builds a rich, nice environment, it could be integrated into the \"real\" PS world.

To build areas, there could be some scripting (or merely description) language available. It can create rough landscapes and place pre-made objects (houses like those in Hydlaa, trees, monsters, NPCs) in the landscape.

Wikis have shown quite an amazing potential. In my opinion a similar potential could be used to expand the PS world very quickly. The drawback is of course that the player-created worlds are probably not as high-quality as the dev-created ones.

Thoughts, comments, ideas?

Hi,

it just happened to me that while I was fighting a rogue with magic, someone came and attacked the rogue as well... He could attack the rogue even though I was attacking that rogue already (and we were not grouped)! That\'s the first thing that makes we wonder: how is it determined who is in fight with an NPC?

The other strange thing is that one time during the fight, I tried to cast a spell on the rogue and was denied with the usual message (\"You have to be grouped with ... to attack that rogue\" and so on).
So how could he take over the attack? Is this intentional in the game? Or is it a (known) bug that will be fixed?

I must admit that the whole thing made me quite angry, as in the end the other fighter killed the rogue! I didn\'t get any experience points, even though I had fought with the rogue for quite some time, and had spent quite a lot of healing potions :(
So it\'s frustrating when someone just comes up and steals the kill :( and I don\'t think the devs are trying to frustrate people ;)

Will the updated binaries be ready to download at the same time like the win-stuff this time?

Yes, I\'m interested in that as well :D

The download page still shows 0.3.011 for Linux, and now here\'s talking about 0.3.013!

I\'m interested in this game (and other similar games).

A question about the race course: Is that the outermost way of the arena, with the long stairs?

Greetings,
Oliver

PS: Does anyone knowif there is a blackboard (planned) inside PS? Would be quite useful for stuff like this...

zanzibar: did you try Qemu? It emulates a whole PC, and it\'s even fast enough to play some Windows games (not all games... and not as fast as a real PC, of course). For DOS games, it should be good enough.

Btw. I found that playing PS in a window of 1280x960 works nicely for me, because my screen is set to 1280x1024, and then the PS window + title bar + KDE task bar fits exactly :)

I just got this crash as well: I was attacking one of the rogues down at the spiral stair in the dungeon with Flameburst, when PS crashed:

I have no idea how to reproduce this (I had already attacked the rogues for a while without any problems)... so should this go into the bugtracker or not?

What processor do you have? AFAIK you can get up to 900 fps in glxgears with indirect rendering on a modern P4 system... So 650 fps might also be possible with indirect rendering.

Maybe you could also check what happens if you force indirect rendering in glxgears (IIRC by running `LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 glxgears`) and see how fast that is.

Just for the record, the problem is apparently still not solved in the newest ATI fglrx driver (8.21.7) - I just installed it, and there\'s still no text.

So it looks like the error was introduced in fglrx 8.16.20, 8.18.6, 8.18.8 or 8.19.10 .

Thanks for your effort anyway, AryHann!

Just installed PS 0.3.10, and it shows exactly the same error (ie. no texts at all). So it really seems to be the ATI driver... That\'s sad, as ATI doesn\'t seem to fix such special bugs often (only when they affect a wide-spread game) :/

Thanks,
Oliver

AryHann, installing an older ATI driver seems quite dangerous to me, as I have no clue what it will change on the system... ATIs Linux drivers bring the performance but also the problems from their windows counterparts to Linux :/

But I did some experiments with the X.org driver (called radeon), and with that driver it works! It also works with indirect rendering (but too slow to play, of course). Btw. I only tested whether pssetup showed fonts, didn\'t test the rest of the game...

Replacing the ATI driver with the xorg driver is not really an option (it supports 3d only on the Radeon 9200 and older, and has some other flaws). Btw. I use fglrx 8.20.08 ... flush, did you already install the 8.21.7 driver?

And the PS config options don\'t seem to offer a solution (so far I fiddled with the cfg files in the main directory (planeshift.cfg etc.) and with some files in /data/config/... (mainly r3dopengl.cfg and freetype.cfg), but without success. Does anyone have an idea what other options might be relevant? Or how to debug this?

Oliver I think that you and me will never play this Game :-(

Thing is, I _did_ play the game already (according to the logs, last time that was in Sept. 2005). I suppose at that time I had the 8.14.13 driver installed. But going back to that release would probably not work for me anyway, as it would most probably not build on kernel 2.6.15 :(

As an afterthought, maybe someone who has built PS can post his/her sources/cal3d/src/cal3d/Makefile ? I actually have not the slightest idea what\'s supposed to stand at that @all_libraries@ stuff, but maybe I can just fill in the text that other people have there?!

Linux Specific Issues / g++: @all_libraries@: No such file or directory
« on: January 30, 2006, 09:32:03 pm »
Hi,
today the SF cvs seems to be working again :D so I tried to build PS with the easy_planeshift that\'s linked to in this forum. But when building cal3d, it fails with this error message:

g++: @all_libraries@: No such file or directory

The @all_libraries@ seems to come from the file cal3d/src/cal3d/Makefile :

Code: [Select]

[...]
target_os = linux-gnu
target_vendor = pc
INCLUDES = $(all_includes) -I$(top_srcdir)/src
all_libraries = @all_libraries@
AM_LDFLAGS =
EXTRA_DIST = cal3d.rc cal3d.dsp SConscript
lib_LTLIBRARIES = libcal3d.la
[...]

I\'m not familiar with autoconf, but shouldn\'t the @all_libraries@ be replaced by some special value in the Makefile (as it happened to all the other stuff from Makefile.in)?

./build -diagnose gives:

Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this error, or how to work around it?

Thanks,
Oliver

There has been people with similar problem and they have solved it somehow.
I\'m very interested in the solution to this problem. There\'s also a recent thread where several people mention this problem... So far I haven\'t found the solution by searching, maybe you can give us a small hint about search terms? ;)

Thanks,
Oliver

If it\'s just a matter of the anonymous access, couldn\'t the devs offer a CVS dump of the whole stuff?
