Fellon, what codec do you use?  I've been using Taksi for quite a while, yet I don't use a dual processor machine so it's kinda hard to.

Hey Tuxide,
i don't own a dual core pc by myself, but it it took me quite a long time to find out acceptable codec configuration.
I'm sorry i can't remember anymore which one it was exactly, but maybe this might help you:

- I put the resolution of the game to 800x600 (the video didn't had to be Hi-Def)
- I choose another harddrive to get the captured scenes to, not the drive PS was running from
- I used some mpeg4 codec (divx or xvid) with high compression an low filesize. CPU is faster then the hard drive may write...

my experiences so far, hope this helps

The one we used for the trailer ignores the mousecursor so far.
It is called taksi and it's oss. But only for Windows OS.

Hey Friends,
we made up a little trailer with cutscenes from Planeshift ingame scenes.
It's supposed to be used to show it to friends who have not downloaded the game yet, and who are interested in animated gamecontent.
Don't expect too much, it's our first video. If you like it, maybe some more (and better) stuff will follow in near future.
You can grab the Trailer here.
Have fun  :D

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Installer Feedback
« on: June 15, 2006, 04:09:30 pm »
Thanks for the reply Induane,

but it seems there is no way I can start the installer via sh installername.bin.
Whether as root nor after chmodding it nor after renaming it. I downloaded a fresh installer (md5 checked) before.
In fact the only two ways to get it started are by using ./installername.bin or by doubleclicking on it.

There are already some projects which are contributed to partial translations of the game. Take a look at:

http://www.planeshift.it/community_languages.html

I\'m sure you could help them.

But it for the future it makes sense. When present bugs have been fixed, there should be worked on some more alternatives to gain money. Not only to make it possible to the players to buy stuff even if the npc server/client/whatever  would be down again.
But also for people like me, who don\'t like fighting monsters or other people and who just want to earn their money the non-bloody way.

That the client will be translated has already been discussed, and it\'s already underway.
This topic is only about the commands (those things starting with \"/\").
And I don\'t think that localized commands will attract more people who are not able to speak english.

So it is for people, who are not native english? I don\'t think so.

I think it is possible to try, and the difficulty is to find a way to make the game localized, but intuitive. And there are many who would just start working on it, if the community would accept it.

What Dave said is my opinion, too, but I don\'t think that the other things are something to worry about yet, because we haven\'t even tried.
No doubt that english still is, and will be the only language in the chat.

And I can\'t see, that there are sub-comminities, who don\'t interact with others, because there are none. I don\'t think you can foresee what happens exactly, it hasn\'t been done yet, so why don\'t you just give it a try, there are many people who would work on it, and all of them know what Planeshift is about.

I think the community benefits from users, who like the game and would help, but if there are not very good in english they surly get better by the time, because you learn it best, when you are using it.
But for those people it would be easier to get an entry to the game, if they have the chance to use it in their native language, just to see how the game works in the beginning.

I hope everybody sees my point, my english isn\'t the best, too.

Maybe your Hardware does not meet the requirements. What about your CPU, RAM, graphics adapter?

The common Bit Torrent Client Software appears as a kind of Download Manager to you.
First you have to download & install the software from e.g. the bittorrent homepage.
After that go to the Planeshift homepage and get the so called \"tracker file\" it\'s found in the download section. This file is only a few kilobyte.
You can open it with the torrent software by double-clicking.
a window opens, and bittorrent is looking for ohter clients in the internet who are downloading planeshift at the moment, or have already finished downloading it. From those users you get your planeshift installer part by part. the download speed depends on how much users are sharing or \"seeding\" this file at the moment and of course on your bandwidth.
Don\'t worry if it takes a couple of minutes before the download even starts.
If you have to interrupt it, there\'s no problem. you can resume the next time by open the tracker and tell the program to save on your partially loaded file, it will resume downloading from where you have stopped before.

hope this helps
