*nods*

All good points.

Of course the Book of Names itself wouldn\'t be in the library but a few copies of it perhaps.

With my character I own two fire swords that do serious damage. I actually recieved them from a friendly player that pitied my needing many hits to kill things. In my story I consider them to be a(n indirect) gift from Talad himself though and I only use them in certain occasions. Sure they aren\'t holy weapons but I work with what I have.

As for your last argument ... I live and rp in the present, based on the past of course but not in fear of the future. I find that if we should be careful with what we say now because it might prove to be different from what will be we \'ll miss out a whole lot of rping. The way I see it the devs give us the tools. It is our job to create the story and the world. Because for all we know we could be giving them ideas for what the future holds .. but at the same time, like you said, we could be wrong. It doesn\'t matter to me though, I don\'t tread on eggshells because of an uncertain future. I make my own future and if it is taken from me I will make a new one starting from that point.

Well to come up with a completely new suggestion on the appearance of training skills ...

I was thinking about leaving out the long overused and unoriginal bars of various colors and instead putting in a little animation looking like a book. Since we are talking about training theoretical knowledge.

You would basically have a screen with the name of each skill this particular trainer offers, next to that you see a small image of a book. The book would be closed, showing the front cover when you haven\'t started training the skill yet, open when you are training it and closed while showing the back cover when the theoretical training is done for that skill level. When you actually train (read: click the \'train this skill\' button) the image will become a small animation of the book with a page being flipped. You could put very simple symbols on the front covers of those books .. like for weapon skills a few pieces of weaponry, shield skills a shield, etc.

Then under the skill\'s name and book you would have some numbers. On the top would be cost to learn one page (=one PP), then on the bottom you have two numbers X/Y. X being the current progress or number of pages already taught and Y the total number of pages in that book (or the total requirement of PP\'s to have full theoretical knowledge for advancing that skill to the next level). Lastly when you hold your mouse cursor over the image of the book you would get a little box appearing with the skill info in it.
That way you have all the information you need in a relatively compact form. Plus a goodlooking animation on top ;)

For the practical knowledge we could then have a new symbol appear next to a full book, relating to the specific skill. Then this image could slowly fill up with a certain color .. similar to the color bar representations but a bit more original and appealing to the eye. Preferably no too bright colors but enough to see a clear difference from the background.

This could work along with the tabs suggested earlier.

There doesn\'t seem to be much information concerning religion available for the general populace.  We have all read the history of Yliakum, but that doesn\'t tell me *why* I should follow any particular god.  Perhaps we need a bit of evangelism in PS (only in  RP terms , PLEASE!).

I, for one, was raised in a community that worshipped Laanx, so I did the same because of tradition, not for any reasons of my own.  When I set out on my own, I needed to depend on my own wits and skills to survive.  Laanx, or any other god, seemed quite a bit less relevant when I was dodging gobblers in the sewers of Hydlaa than back when I was tucked in my soft, warm bed at home.

I wouldn\'t consider myself an atheist; obviously Laanx and Talad exist (the Black Flame, I\'m less sure of).  But I have no reason to devote myself to any one deity at this point.  If you would like to convince me otherwise, drop by Kada-El\'s some time and I\'ll buy the first round.

Well that was actually my intent with creating the guild, bringing religion more into the spotlight. I was even hoping to start up a clergy with priests, missionaries, holy writings and such.
According to the history Laanx already has it\'s Book of Names so hopefully that will become available in Jayose\'s library some time in the future. Aside from that I think it would actually be nice for the players to build up religion but apparently we \'re in a bit of a paradox. Since religion isn\'t really well developed almost nobody is interested in it. Of course there are also people who seem to detest religion of all sorts.

It would indeed be interesting if the Gods interfered with our lives from time to time but I wouldn\'t let them smite all disbelievers. Just show their powers in order to win over more followers. Let the powerstruggle of the gods begin!
*nudges Talad* Can always reward your loyal servant with godly powers :P

Seriously, I think religion is an area we could easily expand on in the game even without the help of the devs. Though I hope we get to enter Talad\'s temple soon.

General Discussion / Yliakean Religion

I \'ve been trying to create a religious guild lately, the Hand of Talad (see link in sig [/end shameless advertizing]) but in doing so I noticed a disturbing lack of religion around Hydlaa. I have only found very few believers of both Talad as Laanx compared to the atheists out there. Now I \'m not sure if there really are that few religious people or most simply didn\'t want to join a religious guild.

So seperated from my guildmaking efforts I am curious how bad it really is with religion in Yliakum and I was hoping to get some responce from players with their preferred religious choice: Talad, Laanx, the Black Flame or Atheist?

I myself believe in Talad *duh*

P.S.: If any mod feels like making a poll out of this thread with the choices mentioned above that would be great :D

Well it looks like religious people are harder to come by these days than I expected.

I \'ve even had more luck finding people who worshipped Laanx than those who believed in Talad but I refuse to accept that there are so few of us left.

Once again I call out to those faithful to our Ebony Lord, come and unite. Spread word of us throughout Yliakum!

I realize they don\'t work, which is why I am making them work by switching stances. Yes of course I could just as well equip two claymores and use the same tactic but where is the realism in that :P
Thing is with anything faster than claymores it becomes a bit too hard to use well though.

Talking about putting some thought into battles .. I \'ve found a way to make a fight a bit more interesting recently.

What I do is equip myself a good old fashioned claymore and a nice shield. Then when engaging any enemy I start out in full defence and try to switch to bloody attack just when I am about to take a swing. As soon as I made my attack I go back to full defence and attempt to repeat this. That way I get minimum damage while doing maximum damage to my opponent.

Now I was thinking perhaps this could be implemented in some way so we needed to actively attack and defend. Perhaps some sort of signal, a sound or an arm going back to prepare for a strike which would then give the player a few seconds to press an attack key. If this isn\'t done the attack will fail or be less significant and the same with defending. Weapon skill levels would make sure you \'d have more time to press the right buttons or give clearer signals and a more syncrone fighting style making it easier.

A system like that would definitely make fighting less of a drag than it is.

Life can be that way indeed. We aren\'t very demanding on activity though, you don\'t need to be able to play for hours every day. As long as you are relatively active, contribute whenever you can and don\'t quit the guild without at least a few days notice (sadly required because of the new minimum 5 members rule) that is fine with me.

As soon as you \'ve signed up on our forums with your character\'s name I \'ll add him to the memberlist. You \'re also free to mail me one or more screenshots of him to add in our photo gallery.

At the moment our forum servers are undergoing upgrades and doing some massive backups though but we expect them to come back online by tomorrow.

Sadly our name has been taken from us and the Hand of Talad has been officially disbanded by the bureaucrats who now demand the rediculous fee of 20.000 trias.

They may steal our name but they cannot take our faith and our spirit.  The Hand of Talad will be back one day and until then we \'ll live on in spirit.

Edit:

With some divine help, and that of a friendly stranger, I am relieved to say that we have enough fundings to restart the Hand of Talad. All we\'ll be needing now are 4 interested people who can gather at the same time.

Edit n?2:

Due to recent circumstances and mild pushing of my fellow players I \'ve decided to create a forum after all. Seeing that guilds definitely require off-game organisation to have a chance to survive I hope this will let us grow strong and worthy of our God. Go take a look on our new website, forum and chatroom.

We would be glad to take you up into our ranks.

As for the violence issue, I can definitely appreciate peace and even support it. However in a world such as this I believe it to be foolishness for one to think they can have a bright future without getting any blood on their hands. Life can be cruel and those who show no strength or ability to defend themselves get pushed around and trampled by more powerful individuals. Not only by the many wild creatures but by your fellow men and women as well.

I also believe while our god is kind and forgiving he does not shy away from force if necissary. After all isn\'t he the one who created the glyphs, infused with potent spells? And isn\'t he our creator, the father of the Kran, a strong and sturdy race capable of defending itself?

There is no need to worry though, we are not out for blood. The only goal of the military and magical arm of our society would be to defend our brothers and sisters and prevent further bloodshed by those who worship dark gods.

Thank you both.

I understand that a website and forums could be handy but from what I \'ve seen those areas are either hardly used or overused, which means the in-game activity goes down.
I think that the reasons you named up can be done with the guild notes and MotD as well.

Guilds Forum / the Hand of Talad

Hear me citizens of Hydlaa!

*a tall white Kran, adorned with transparant blue gems, steps onto a pillar at the edge of Hydlaa Plaza and raises his hands to draw everyone\'s attention*

This morning I woke up from a vision, a message from our divine creator himself. Talad spoke to me through my dreams and he has asked me to unite his followers so that they may overcome the hardships of life together. I were to erect the Hand of Talad, a haven for those that worship our grand master who has given us this land to call home. People of all ranks and races are welcome.

Those that come to us with a pledge of allegiance shall be taken up as Talad\'s servants and will need to prove their faith before the Chosen ones, like myself, and the Eye of Talad A delegate given the favor of our God to watch over his children. After you have been deemed worthy you will be recruited into the Faitful as commoners, farmers, miners, teachers and craftsmen they will be the backbone of our society and support all other branches in every way they can. The Clergy are people of even stronger faith who will spread our faith and educate our followers of Talad\'s greatness. Their coming can allow light to penetrate even the darkest places.

Those with combat skills may join the Blades of Talad and are sworn to protect his followers as well as eradicate his enemies. While those with innate magical powers will be known as the Force of Talad, they are those who will unleash his wrath upon the fallen and wicked, as well as show mercy and place blessings upon his faithful followers. The Paladin and Archeron will lguide both of these arms so that they may not stray from the path.

Our mission is to unite and protect Talad\'s followers. We stand stronger together and together we shall overcome any hardship and resist any temptation!

I have also been given the assignment of cleansing Hydlaa\'s sewers from the wretched cults that have been festering down there. It are the Fanatics and their cultist brethren I speak of. We must strike them down and let their puny fates be held by Talad himself as they fall under his judgement in the Death Realm.

Join me now and stand up for your faith!

(ooc: This guild will be mainly in-game, since I will also be holding this speech on the plaza in a few minutes. There are no forums or website at this time and there will most likely never be one. I don\'t believe we need those external tools to enhance our guild and roleplaying experience.
Secondly, my apologies to Talad for speaking in his name .. I just hope I haven\'t unleashed his wrath and perhaps might some day gain his favor. :P
Lastly I \'m open for all criticism as long as it is polite ;)

P.S.: For those who wonder about my levels, you will see that they are all mentioned in italic in the above post. )
