Tried, no go.

Tried installing and running as root, same issues.  I then set it to \"cvs\" (still has the MB startup screen) and actually got into the game, took about 2 to 4 steps before it segfaulted.  I then set it to \"elves\", I can get into the game, I can got to the options menu and change options, but, as soon as I try to move it segfaults.

Tried downloading the installer again from the second mirror.  Now I can get into the game without any changes to the psclient.cfg file.  I can kill a MOB and take 2 steps, always on third step it segfaults.  So it seems there is something different about the installer from the first time I tried. Guess I\'ll have to wait for next version of installer.

Yep, I just redirected stdout to that file.  I did it again with both stdout and stderr redirected with;

Code: [Select]
./pssetup -verbose >& verbose.dawolffe.txt
and launching from the setup GUI;

output

Got them and added symlinks from within the ~/planeshift/libs/ directory.  The setup doesn\'t complain about it anymore, now it segfaults just after loading the region.  Last few lines from terminal (with -verbose on);
Code: [Select]
SCF_NOTIFY: loading plugin /home/sterling/npshift/planeshift/libs/gmeshldr.so to satisfy request for csGeneralFactoryLoader
SCF_NOTIFY: loading plugin /home/sterling/npshift/planeshift/libs/genmesh.so to satisfy request for csGenmeshMeshObjectType
SCF_NOTIFY: loading plugin /home/sterling/npshift/planeshift/libs/glshader_fixed.so to satisfy request for csGLShader_FIXED
Segmentation fault

Also tried linking to the previous install\'s liblcms, same result as above. I captured the whole output with the -verbose if it would be of help.

For me it would startup, and let me enter the game, but, as soon as I started to move it segfaulted. Wonder if this means anything;
Code: [Select]
$ ./pssetup
Mounting skin: /planeshift/art/apps.zip
Skipping \'YesNo\' because it\'s already loaded
DLERROR (/home/sterling/npshift/planeshift/libs/csjngimg.so): liblcms.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
SCF_WARNING: factory returned a null instance for crystalspace.graphic.image.io.jng
        if error messages are not self explanatory, recompile CS with CS_DEBUG

crystalspace.pluginmgr.loadplugin:

planeshift.setup.application:

Yesterday in the Arena I started attacking a Gladiator that appeared to be unoccupied.  The attack starts normally, then suddenly I see a message that I must be grouped with \'Wengull\', but, I don\'t see anybody around, nor do I see the Gladiator doing anything.  No messages in the chat window saying it\'s being attacked or somebody else started an attack.  The whole time I don\'t see anyone else there.

So I try again and the Gladiator is dead, again no messages in the chat window indicating this.  Now when the Gladiator re-spawns I try again, same sequence as above.  I try sending Wengull a tell but it gives me the \'no such player\' type message.  I try local chat but get no response.  Next re-spawn I try again, all the same except I see an emote in the chat window saying \"Wengull frowns\".  At this point I was thinking maybe a bored GM was having some fun or something and decided to move on.

I move to another Gladiator in the same hall and after killing it a few times I notice Wengull training on the other Gladiator.  I\'m guessing s/he was there the whole time, though maybe the server weirdness made it such I couldn\'t see Wengull before.  About this time the Gladiator I\'m training on disappears right after I start an attack.  I decide that maybe it\'s a good idea to get away but only get a few steps and then a message saying I\'m dead (no being attacked messages or a death message in the chat window).  From DR I still couldn\'t send a tell to Wengull so obviously something wacky was going on.  The issue never re-appeared, as far as I know anyway, so not sure if this was a client or server or both type issue.

So anyway my apologies to Wengull, I had no intentions of being unfriendly. Hope you understand.  :]  :]

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / when MOB(s) rebel
« on: September 11, 2005, 01:43:04 pm »
Seen it from several different types of MOB(s).  Funniest was from Consumer(s) that seem to die as expected, then get up and leave after you loot them.
Consumer: \"That was mine, if you are going to take it, then I\'ll leave\"

A good one was a Bandit that seemed to hit the ground a couple times after it fell dead.  Looked like it was throwing a sissy fit because it got beat.

I\'ve repeatedly tested and used this roughly 30 times (probably more).  I know about the in-game hour thing, the above procedure and background works 100% of the time for me.  I verified that the in-game hour didn\'t change.  I tried to eliminate it being a random quirk before I would even thought of suggesting it.

Now trying to find a background other than Harnquist shop that creates the same re-producible results has proven to give random success.

I believe this is a known issue.  At least I know lots of players seem to bitc..err.. report this.  I\'ve seen it called many different things so not sure there is an official name for it, I call it being \'black-shifted\'.  It seems to return to normal in 3 to 8 minutes which can be annoying at times.  I\'ve found a workaround that works rather well for me.

When I\'m going to log off I try to find a very dark background to put my view into.  The walls of Harnquist shop work best for me.  I walk up to the wall, switch to \'First Person\' view, so that all you see is a rather dark grey wall, and then log off.  Now when I log back in I get a totally black screen (can\'t even see the wall) for only 2 to 5 seconds.  Then the wall appears and when I look around all is normal lighting.

A little cumbersome, but, useful none the less.

Using CentOS 4.1 with some customizations borrowed from Fedora Core 4.  PS works pretty well running the pre-compiled binary.  Get some client crashes and odd \"Falling off end of world\" stuff, but, for a pre-alpha definitely playable.  Going to compile the client myself this weekend, hopefully that clears up some of the weirdness.

Overall I really like the game.
