Lag is not you connection or your computers fault. There are faulty connections and bad wiring and Fragnetics is working to fix it. Everybody is getting bad server lag as of now.

Up until 1 1/2 years ago. I was using a Dell Dimension 4400 (866Mhz P3, 512MB(256MB stick upgrade)ATI 128MB 8500 AIW(upgrade), 16-bit SB sound card, that was was about 3 years old then, still ran my games.  BTW, Im not one of those who goes out to buy \"the latest thing\".  Id prefer to let others deal with bugs, exploitss, and the like.  Ill wait from 6 months to a year on average to buy a game, because I get a well patched version at a lot less cost.
Im glad they\'re working to fix lag, would help alot.

The only real landmarks are those stone spires, ad since they all look the same, its not much help.  30 minutes? I. frankly, am amazed by that!  Ive gotten \"turned around\" quite a few times(going left when where I wanted to go was right turn...).   No idea how you manage, but Ill be able to too, if Im down there more often.

---You must not be aware of PlaneShift\'s target audience :) I guarantee you, it doesn\'t include the entire world.---

Other than that,
Over and out.

Your TARGET audience, yes, but others will come too, and if they dont find the RP enjoyable, or feel too much pressure to RP, then you\'ll lose them, but you dont care about them, do you?  I think I\'m getting it now!  The RP is like a magnet, and as you know, a severe blow can in duce magnetism, causing some not-so-magnetic players to become more so, and stay around, the others will drop off, but the pull is in all directions, so more will come, repeat ad nauseam.

Oh my God..... You\'re REALLY starting to freak me out!  Look, this is a GAME, NOT REAL LIFE!  Anyway, I COULD have a GPS screen available, as they do make portable versions.  EVERY other game I have EVER played(20 years of PC gaming) there was a map available(of some kind), and all having no map does is make me stay to know paths, as I said in other post, \"...I almost gave up my 1st character when ---I got lost, but then I found the map border, and followed that.  Otherwise, I\'dve just given up, and made new character---.\"
Not having a map just makes it VERY unlikely that Ill do much travelling, unless I can keep known areas in sight, or it\'s almost impossible to get lost(not leaving path/road for example).  Otherwise, Ill be spending more time learning the area(so I can find more things to kill/quests to complete) than actually using/trainging skills need to do them.  I honestly feel it\'s awful difficult to put all that on the player, \"Hey wanna know where you\'re at? Make you own map!\"  Of course, cartography skill may be implemented, but you\'ll need people who will take the time to do all that travelling, and the note/screenshot taking...  It\'s gonna mostly be the people who\'ve been around a long time, and done a lot of the quests already, not very many new players at all, who will be the mapmakers.

No, actually I cant read his/her mind, and only getting half the story is like if you go to court for a traffic ticket, but arent allowed to speak in your defense.  As to ToS addition, I thought you\'d like that.  Of course, it WILL cut down on players a bit, because not everyone is that into RP.  But, if it works for you all, go for it.

I play these games because I enjoy them, not for any particular element.  As example, say I like combative games(actually, I do), but that\'s NOT why I play FPS games, I play them because of the \"thinking element\" primarily, using available resources to overcome adversaries.  I play another RPG(sort of MMORPG), with crafting skills. I LOVE MAKING THINGS!  But who wants crafted things the most?  Players! But I dont have to RP that.  I ALSO(if facing rather dificult opponent) want intelligence(REAL, not artificial) to help as group(a rarity for me, but it has happened).  Scripted party members are usually too dumb to be very helpful.  About climbable ladders, finished quests, dont care if they\'ree finshed, with all the spit and polish, if they\'re interesting.  If you all are that hardcore on the RP element, patch in something on install in the ToS(must scroll down to activate \"next\" button, and in big red letter at bottom so it will be seen, say something like,
\"By installing Planeshift, you agree to roleplay your character to the best of your ability, you may be reported for continuing to remain OOC(Out Of Character) for extended periods, which may lead to a temporary or permanent ban, depending on frequency/number of violations.\"
BTW, about post I was asked to/read, it\'s kinda difficult to make informed judgement with so many posts deleted...

Considering that PlaneShift is still in pre-alpha stage, complete newbie friendliness isn\'t to be exactly expected. The world isn\'t very large - given a few hours of exploration, most of it could be memorized without any problems. Instead of implementing features that must be taken away later (i.e., automaps), the development team is better using its time on furthering more permanent features.

How\'s that?

Ah, but roleplay isnt forced(thank Goodness), and I\'m pretty much a \"Lone Wolf\" style player, so no groups/guilds for me.  Besides, I play 5 other RPGs, and havent run into the, \"If you dont roleplay, dont play\" ideology.  I just play because I enjoy character development, never felt \"immersiveness\" in ANY game(whatever type), don\'t even look for interaction w/others, but if it happens that someone starts a conversation, I\'ll speak with them(as long as they \'re nice enough to continue conversation), otherwise, it\'s HIGHLY unlikely I\'ll initiate talk, unless I want to trade/need information, ect.

Can they all afford it?  Is it something they feel they need to do(upgrade for just this one game)?  Quite possibly not.  I know that there hasnt been a single game I have that I upgraded my PC JUST for that particular game.  My PC is almost 2 years old(2600XP, 1GB PC 2700, Audigy2ZS(NOT getting Platinum, no need), FX5900 video card), and it runs all the games I play just fine, so no need to upgrade for me.  BTW, my net connection is a Netgear 54MB Gigabit(Comcast is provider), and Im getting lag....  FIX LAG!

Well, I guess that\'d pretty much be it, because I\'m no good at roleplay, dont even have any real interest in it.

Then I imagine ALOT of people will need one-name characters.  And Getting extreme here, so if someone has a name that is a phrase in the language of the Masai(African tribe), then it wouldn\'t be allowed?  That \"translates into phrase in any language\" seems a bit much...

Omnia Mortis means \"fear of death\" I believe, and even though it isn\'t exactly blatant (although it approaches this area), it\'s an iffy name. You may be able to get away with it with the current rule slacking, but generally \"sentence\" or \"phrase\" names are not allowed.

Can I get that in English? What is wrong with it?  It\'s NOT a sentence, nor is it a phrase, the name \"John Miller\" could mean \"John, whose occupation is a miller\" (of flour, for example), so that wouldn\'t be acceptable either?  BTW, saw this guy\'s name, and was concerned \"Belgarath\" in this screenshot http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3069/pscpyrghtvltn6ov.jpg  Here is where the name is from http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0586213155/ref=br_lf_b_13/202-8074826-7030241

In real life, I know the area I grew up in fairly well, and I feel that characters should know where things are in the place they grew up in(they ARE all adults), to not know where things are in the town you spent(as example) 18 years in, is just silly.
