If I understood correctly, you are using the *.html to generate a *.xml.. To have a *.xml is good but this one should be created by the game-server it-self... It would be easier, more acurate, and more stable. The aim of an *.xml is to be independent of the interface, so building a *.xml from an interface is a strange strategie. If some changes are done to this interfaces, you script to create the xml will not work anymore (best case) or create a buggy *.xml (worst case).

I am waiting for a *.xml files with a least the server\'s status. I know this is quite easy to know its status but I would like to check it with a software so... *.xml would be great indeed.

Edit : and the time between each report in the repost itself so we now when we should reload the file else we will need to chech every 1 second let say...

General Discussion / Search people to help summarizing the whislist
« on: January 31, 2006, 09:10:01 pm »
Hello,
This is easy to say but this is also true, the wishlist forum is a mess.
Wormtail_ tried to clear things by creating a Compilation of Ideas  Thread but it was not really usefull because threads linked were\'nt summarized and is now dead. So in order to have a clear and efficient wishlist forum I have started a summary here. http://www.ps-mc.com/docs/index.php/Wish_list
But I am pretty alone, have not a lot of time and am not very easy with english writing. That is why I am searching, as a beginning to summarize threads linked in the Compilation of Ideas Thread.
This should not be a too hard task for people easy with english (nativ?) and with good summarizing skills.
I really hope to get some help because organization is not trivial in a big project.
I can say, in advance and without doubts, that moderators from this forum will thank you for your help.

Maybe I am wrong but the player guide is done by xml, isn\'t it?
(If not, it should :) )
So thereno problem really to change the format ie *.pdf and *.txt can be easily created from a *.xml....

Why no collision detection between PCs and (N)PCs ?
The first and obvious answer is because some guys may abuse of it voluntary or not.
I have played once Tibia and there were \"thiefs\" using the collion detection eg \"Give me something or I (and my friends) won\'t let you pass\".
Another example, a player is afk or having network problems, the character won\'t react. So It could bloc critical access.
The last one, you are in town so there is a lot of people. You want to go to the other extremety of the street, but other characters are walking with the opposite direction. How long will you stay in game before disconnecting?
I guess collision detection will also need more CPU, I don\'t how much, but it could increase lag...

(Bonus Question : How many people would be needed to bloc the city gates?)

PS : Of course there is gm, but that is not a sufficiant reason to create additional problems.

Aliptah, if you want to be kind you can summarize the idea and add a section there. :)

I am against any alignment system but I would too see a reputation system.
More exactly, in my opinion, an alignment system is too basic, \"good\" and \"evil\" are only IC concepts. A witch was seen as an \"evil\" because Christianism was \"the good way\". It is with your point of view that you would define if a person is a resistance fighter ( \"good\" ) or a terrorist ( \"evil\" ).
A relativ reputation system would be the best but not the easier to implement, that is to say player will give a note to another player and according to the voting player reputation, the reputation of the targeted player will change.
This reputation would only show how much we can trust the player/how much the player is obeying to the rules. Of course, there should not only have one general reputation but severall : one for each town, \"kingdoms\", social backgrounds, guilds... ( I am aware this will be pretty hard to implement. )

I wish the Developers would take a stand on the alignment system ( or the lack of it as long as properly backed up ) they have chosen for the game, and display it in an accessible place for all players.
Why? Because it would avoid pointless alignment discussions, needless misinformation and (should an alignment system be chosen) help players guide themselves with the personalities and ideals of this unique environment.

There is a todo list for things that will be soon implemented but such system will not be implemented tomorow. I don\'t think they already have decided how to do it because this is not the priority. In short we can\'t know what they haven\'t decided. :)
It might be true that the organization of planeshift is not the best, but you could help it, avoiding \"pointless discussions\" ( new idea well explained will always be welcome ) and keeping the wishlist forum \"clean\".

PS : I am not saying that your wish should not be here, nor that this thread is pointless but that if everyone make an effort to contribute to PS (real contribution like art or code programming,  or organization help), this can only be better.

Nice post!!!
Totally unrelated, this is not the place where you ask to join a clan.

\"Wish list

I have seen someone with the same problem on irc, chan #planeshift-build.
According to the ouput, you don\'t have a lib called zlib.lib.
Make sure you have it and that the variable(s) defining the path is pointing to it.
Else find someone on irc.
I can\'t help more...

This idea could be great but it has to be done with a skill. I mean how you describe it, anyone would be able to make nice map.
We can add two factors related to some skills :
- drawing\'s precision (at the beginning it would be mainly thin lines and  approximate square for houses)
- orientation\'s precision : let\'s say you are running and turning 30? left, it will be recorded as 30? left only if you have good skill.

That would be a  possibility but we have to keep in mind that a map generator is no that easy to implement if we want not everybody to have map. (And personally I don\'t want i.e. Google Earth is only in the real world :D )

According to Talad, web masters has not researched by the team.

The guide has been wrote using docbook dtd, so it may be nice to have a pdf version, that would be easy to do...
The faq, the organization of the team, the history (... ) could be write the same way and added to this pdf or create additionals pdf files.

Don\'t want to be rude, but I don\'t understand how you want to make an online RPG if your are not even able to grap the source.... Anyway.... Try http://www.ps-mc.com/docs/index.php/Main_Page to get information. I order to get the sources you will have to use CVS. (see compilation tutorial)

Well... PS is licensed. For more informattion, see http://www.planeshift.it/pslicense.html. In short, you can only use the code which is open source.
