General Discussion / Re: Anybody there? Hmmm...
« on: March 20, 2008, 04:23:03 am »
Ah, the new patches that kill roleplay... happens every time. Anyone else remember the time that the chat window was broek, so if you typed too much on one line it wouldn't scroll down? People would think the conversation was over, and leave just because the chatwindow was "stuck". Now that was roleplay killer  :sweatdrop:

Eventaully the invite system will be working better.. one way or another. And players will always congrigate where there's something to do that doesn't require other players all the time. It's nothing to be concerned with, people just need something to do, or they'll get bored and move to some place else. Hey, let's hang out at the temple where all the crystals spawn!

If you thinking playing planeshift is difficult, you should try programing it  ;) I tried to fix mouselook problems at various points, but what remains is some inconstiant software in windows that no one seems to be able to pin down. Poor mouselook  :'(.

Also, I suffered from the gamma problems... until recently there was the commandline -fullbright, but I belive that was removed... maybe someday someone will figure out how to make the gamma accessable, but it will take work.

It's so annoying that things can't be that easy  :whistling:

Hmph, I could have sworn at one time the away messages were ignored by the server, specifiically to avoid this. It's a bug!

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Re: Mercy!

Neko, interesting how that defination page then goes on to say "forgive"  ;) "I forgive you for challanging me... this time!"

I agree with utm, /yield is meant to stop the duel. /stopdueling would be a bit too much to type in afterall.

One hit killing someone doesn't quite make sense- afterall you can't just jump someone who's not in combat, you don't have rules for sniping/backstabing like that... yet. :whistling:

There's been a mouse bug for over a year that hasn't been fixed? Sometimes I think I was the only dev to ever use a mouse  ;)

Crashing because the superclient is afraid of commitment no doubt  ;)

My complaint about the server crashing- the crash emial reports are pretty useless  :-\ It's one thing to get 200 emails in a weekend, but they all give the same infromation, and as far as I can just tell it's the usual x crashed and here's a log of unrelated infromation".

Yes, i know this is only an issue for about ten people, but it still bugs me  :P

Complaint Department / Re: Time to increase men. stamina

Hm, decreasing the stamina cost as you become more skills would make sense. But the again, don't you complete work quicker at higher levels?

I guess my point is that having more will just means you can go longer without tiring... but you still need a long time to recover.

On a more serious note, the upside to all this, is that whenever the server crashes, it makes a dump log that can then be reviewed to figure out what caused the crash and then a code fix can be made to prevent this from happening in the future.  :)

And devs get mailed a notice as soon as the server crashes, which may help for quick fixes. Or make you feel more popular with 120messages per week  :whistling:

Hm, I coulda sworn you were supposed to stop all work when you reached low stamina- but then again I might have only made it check physical
Your maximum stm. has no direct effect on your regeneration- of course, increasing stats may effect it. So all you can do is increase how much you can do before getting tired, you will so do the the same amount of work after you have been tired once.

Unless of course getting negative stats causes a bug, which I doubt, but it wouldn't be the first time  :innocent:

Wish list / Re: Cheat detection messages to GMs
« on: July 22, 2007, 09:55:49 am »
It could piggy-back on the petiton messaging system, that whenever a new petiton is submitted, all Gms are notified. I believe there was a way to opt out of that(or was it opt in?).
If a character had X number of violations in X amount of time, a petiton would be genenreated to alrert GMs. This of course assumes paladin is working, and not genereating an alert for every movement like it was at one point...

I have no idea what developers have been leaving, and I've been on the team for a year and a half. We have had 0 people consciously quit the team, 1 (DaveG) mysteriously disappear, and 1 Settings member (Kerol) switch to a GM Team Leader position because he felt he was better suited for it.
What about me?  :innocent:

Why would someone stop contrbuting to a free project? Well, because they no longer have the free time, or the interest, or their personal life changed, or they got abducted by aliens, or all of the above.

I have an idea that could solve this. Do the exact opposite as with mining. When you start an attack, remember where the attacker is. When the target is killed, check if the attacker moved and if not display a message "You did not learn anythin, as you did not move while attacking.". Or something.
Or make it so that you do not learn in full defensive mode, which is the default for being automatically attacked. (In cvs at least, not on laanx, I just checked :) ).

Not a bad Idea, suggest it to venge or X and see what they have to say.
Another possiblty, but tricky to do, is turn off all auto-actions after 1min of inactivity.

Hmm, interesting... well, I applaud you for trying to imporve things :)

Which parts of the WoW and warhammer logins do you like? WoW is just an animation playing over and over with a good song playing... We have a good song here, but it is a little old, and no animation of course ::)

The warhammer one, seems much like our character selection... do you just want ti to be full screen? That could indeed be done the way you are trying. The podium would have to be loaded with more content, possibly having various maps(or rooms in the same map) with differernt backgrounds depnding on race, etc.

Seems like a lot of work for artists however  :sweatdrop:
