After some week i trie to play Planeshift again and client and setup still work.
But as i'm trying the use the upgrader he want not start.

After i have started upgrader in terminal to see what is going on.

Upgrader seems habe been upgraded at last upgrade and is using a new lib (libxaw.so.8 )now, who does not exist in my release (Ubuntu Dappe lts 6.06) cause this lib is still under develloppent and not stable.

While upgrade the upgrader the new lib you are using ,has not bee downloaded in library folder of Planeshift . Only libxaw.so.7 is in there .

I think client and setup is still using release 7 of libxaw.

But if you try to make some file upgrade of Planeshift in next futur days lot of linux player will be again unable to play Planshift.

Linux Specific Issues / new psclient dont start

I use  ubuntu hoary
-updater is working
-But psclient fails and do not even start

in realese r4 size psclient.bin is only 875,5 KO
and in r3 psclient.bin it was 11.4 MO

There is download problem on planshift server
Check fill size and extraction after download.

PlaneShift-CBV0.3.0.12-r4-i686.tar.bz2
file must be 6.3Mb

Can we have infos in the forum when new or updated data are loaded on updater servers ?
We should know when new updates are avable as long the updater is working wrong.
To much trafic is made in loading the same mess again and again, without having any result.

I\'m using Linux Ubuntu Hoary release with Nvidia
Since update 0.3.0.12 have been made, all is dark  outside the towns.
The game can only be played with :

psclient -fullbright

Is someone working on this problem ?
In 0.3.0.11 it was working !

General Discussion / Ready but not for all

What is going or should i say going down ...
We have an update , who can only be accessed to insider.
Maybe the window release is working but what with linux and mac ?
No update on  official PS homepage are  made for these release . All have to be found in a messy forum.
Simple bug like smallinventory.xml are still in repository and are not changed , and makes a nonsens of using the updater.

And update should make things better but not worser.

What is the goal of PS ? Just using  player as betatester for an unknown goal ?

PS as open-source , i dont believe it anymore after ready so much in forum and bug report, because only a handfull of poeple can make any change and these change are no done even with all help of lot of player, or take so long until a hypothetic better update. The showcase of PS is nice , but this is only an empty box full of promise since 3 years.

Wanting to protect to much a projet is also to making it not going further or killing it.

Think about it.

I try to start this thread in hope helping Linux players as well as Xordan who needs his times to debug PS.
Consulting the forum makes it hard to see in bug on client or server side or if it is Linux release or all OS . The bug report isn\'t clear for that too. All user collaboration is needed. Report me if usefull ? If ok  add all you find  and i will update this thread with the missing info as often as possible .

My proposal :
1/ Summary the known bugs
2/ Add type of bug : (Linux  PSclient, All PSclient, PS Server side, PS repository, PS database , unknown)

3/ Add hints how to avoid the problem util next release
4/ fixe report (in CVS, or in  next R3)

Exemple:

Type : Linux PSclient, All PSclient ?
Description: Darkness nearly black display.
Hint: add option psclient - fullbright
Fix: ?

Type : Linux PSclient, All PSclient ?
Description: Go stairs down forward crash Psclient  in Arena (hope description in clear now)
Hint: Walking down the stairs backward (dont crash)
Fix: ?

Type : Linux PSclient, All PSclient ?
Description: Map loading  crash in crossing zone
Oja forest , Tunnel to Oja ?, Tunnel to Arena
Hint: Not running thru crossing zone work most time.
Fix: ?

Description: Loose npc target after attack

Even 81 endurence is not hight enough to enter in dugeon.
100 is needed !
This no more a game...
This no more a game... Calling  that an update is to take player for dummies.
Next time creat a mirrors for beta  and invite some player to test before creat such chaos!

First bug ( yes/no) from above.

Have found a second little bug with updater 1.0.2.7(0.3.012R2)
Have made several try of updates today  in all update the updater is loading:

Update   art/models.zip/trepor/trepor.cal3d (ZIP)
Total size 2.00 KB in 1 files

Cannot imagine they are making this trepor file 10 times a day...

Maybe the file cannot be transfered into model.zip or not notified after upload ?

Have same problem with \"wrong version for this server\".
But after update of linux client release and all updates.
Version displayed on frame border seems correct .
(0.3.012)...
Server is on (15 user at loggin)...
But cannot access  ???

Is this correct for release (0.3.012) ?

Have updated the client and made all updates.
Server is on, 0.3.012 ist displayed uper border, but ,Message of wrong version of PS for this server is displayed ?????
What is going wrong ?

Linux Specific Issues / update planeshift 0.3.012 with ubuntu

Had release 0.3.011 installed from Linux binary

It was working well until update.

Have tried to make update  with ./updater
He has loade major part  of update
some file are still missing (run out of mirror  Couldn\'t connect to Laanx).
Question is there an other mirror ?

Second question : When i try to start PS it say now :
Your are not running correct version of Planeshift for this server. I think , i should have psclient for 0.3.012.
But there is a problem in update log file there is no update files for the new binary psclient  and other binary  for the new release, and not even in the missing files  , who are still not downloaded.

Where is the missing part of the update...
or is it the end for linux user ?

I was searching about Atomic Blue License too on internet to see how many people contributing to this idea and do works with this license.
I have found none.
So i renew the question is it really good when only an handfull insider artistes are contributing to this nice game and agree to this license ?

As artist these word  hurts me most.
Artistic work is evolutiv , this means that every new creation is in one way a derivate product of  a previews works . Its not all the time so, but often.

I do understand  your goal not having a lot of copy of Planeshift , but even Planeshift  is not fully original.
The base of game have been done on more as 20 years of RPG gaming. Refence made on paper and computer games.
Dont forget RPG is now part of game cultur .

So why not simpy use creative commons license ?

So artist can give an artwork who can be modified or not depending on kind of license.
I do not agree to bind creativity  in the way you want to do .
It would only mean for me , you want keep competition away from you. This hold developpenement of the game on very low speed. Why not open your doors, and let vote the comunity  on artworks to include in the game.
