Mac OSX Specific Issues / official 3.0.12 download package?
« on: December 10, 2005, 10:56:16 pm »
Any plans of this happening?

I got lazy and tired of messing with the terminal and jumping through all the other loops to make the game connect and playable...

For those with the official capacity to do so, it shouldn\'t be that big of a deal to put a complete working archive up for download on the main site...

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Changing resolution/bit depth/windowed mode
« on: November 08, 2005, 07:40:07 pm »
Ok, I\'ve looked, and haven\'t found an answer.   If one is out there please flame me and provide a link to the appropriate thread....

That being said, I understand that the pssetup.app crashes and is not yet fixed.  I\'ve poked around most of the .cfg files looking for where I can manually change my screen res, bit depth, and turn off windowed mode without luck.

\"psupdater.cfg\" contains screen information, but it always defaults to 640x480 16 bit after changing and saving it.  I\'m looking forward to playing again after patiently waiting, but I can\'t see $#!% at that rez (please don\'t suggest I change my desktop rez to 640x480... after dropping the cash for a dual G5 with 2GB and a Radeon X800XT, I\'m not gonna go there! :)

TIA

Yeeesh!  I\'ve had to stand in line and wait or share rat spawns with other people, or altogether come back later, there doesn\'t seem to be enough rats to go around...   The happy meduim is missing there.  Oh well, at least they breed/spwan as quick as, errr....  well, rats!

Got that wrong....  you actually have to have the pick in your left hand, which IS properly labeled as your left.   Even though the game will tell you it has to be right held.  I dunno if you can have a weapon in your right hand, haven\'t tried it.

General Discussion / Thanks for giving us Planeshift!
« on: October 15, 2005, 04:47:04 pm »
I was withdrawing from MMORGs and looking for a new one on www.versiontracker.com, didn\'t find anything intruiging there (might be an idea to post it there to get more attention, it\'s sort of the mac software mecca), luckily a Google seach of \"mac MMORPG\" found one obscure message which metioned the game.

In the past few days I\'ve become absorbed into it, the interface is nice with a full feature set you\'d expect from any MMORPG, it has never crashed, I get framerates from 40 (in bad times) to 200+ and the graphics are beautiful!!  Best of it, it\'s FREE, and the bugs are a bit annoying but tolerable...  I\'m sold :)

I\'d just like to give my kudos to all of those that spent countless hours developing this game and say THANKS MUCH and keep up the great work, it\'s appreciated!

Wish list / ability to swtich apps in the OS X client
« on: October 15, 2005, 04:37:08 pm »
Not meaning to bombard this forum, but that would be a nice feature if the game allowed us to Command-Tab to switch to other apps.  Being fairly new and clueless i have to quit the game to search the forums for help, etc...

Thanks

It\'s currently using version 1.0.2.6 on Mac OS X (not sure if this is mac specific or not - nothing about it in the Mac forum).

Fired it up and the text readout said:
\"Loaded registry
Sever has another updater, going to fetch it..
Sleeping for 10 seconds for you to read the message..
Going to continue with the update, unexpected things may occur\"

When it says sleeping to read the messsage i get a dialog box that says \"WARNING:  New updater can\'t be fetched since your OS isn\'t yet supported for automatic updating.  You should be able to fetch and intall it manually either from the mainsite or from the forums\"

At one point it said it was obtaining the new updater and appearantly crashed.  And after searching/looking, I don\'t find a newer version.  Anybody?  TIA!!

Wish list / Info window revision
« on: October 15, 2005, 04:19:02 pm »
The info window is indespensible, and most people probably always have it open.  Keeping this in mind, i noticed it takes up a fair amount of screen real estate.  Making it smaller would be a real plus.

Vertically, there\'s a lot of uneed spacing that could be removed to make it much shorter.  I\'m nieve on how it would be done but it doesn\'t look like it should be too big of a task.  As for width, well it looks like the attack buttons would need to be made smaller which might involve a bit more...

Either way, less is more when you\'ve got open windows gobbling up your view.

This is pretty easy to do if I make it un-customizable. But right now there is only one view where zoom even works due to constraints from the camera code, I will wait till that is updated(which will be pretty soon) to work on that.

--------------

I\'m not entirely sure what some people have the scroll wheel mapped to do, when i use it now it doesn\'t do anything by default.  Having it move from first person view to max perspective (zoom in scrolling forward, out backwards) would be simply outstanding!

I was thinking about this, the problem being that it would be yet another mode to change your view... So I will have to muck around with the other ones, see what people actually use and what they need. Question, by panning up you mean looking up? if so that\'s the same as the current mouselook, but only using the borders to indicate. But again, this will lead to many more settings for people to change.

--------------------

It was a simple system, there were no borders or graphics for working it.  Touching the mouse on any far edge of the screen would move the camera.  Tapping the side of the screen would move it slightly, and leaving your mouse there would cause it to spin continously left or right, or move the camera all the way up/down.

As for vertical movement, well holding the mouse at the top of the screen would cause the camera to move up in a 360 degree arc (keeping it aimed at your character) until it was directly above your head looking down at you.  Moving it fully down would move it perfectly horizontal with the head of your character.  And regardless of where the camera is, the mousewheel always had the same effect moving the camera out of first person to as far as your perspective was set at (and vice versa).

This system was ingenious in the fact that you could quickly and easily change your viewpoint to whatever you wanted without using a single keystroke or having to set key bindings for camera controls.  This would also eliminate the need to change or have multiple camera modes (first person for sure, however dynamic follow is kind of neat)

Hope this clarifies my prior desprection!  Pardon the messed qoutes....

Wish list / a better camera control
« on: October 14, 2005, 05:40:09 pm »
Ok, a good portion of my life was wasted playing a commercial MMORPG.  However, I haven\'t seen the one greatest features of that game in any other MMORGP:

The ease and simplicity of camera control...   The scroll wheel on the mouse would move the camera in and out, from first person all the way back to the max perspective distance.  Moving or holding the mouse to any side of the screen would pan the camera, touching the left side would move it left, right to right, touching the top would move the camera down and vice versa.

This system would effortlessly allow you to switch from 1rst person to 2nd, and zoom and pan around your entire playing field with incredible ease and speed.

There can be no better way to control a camera!  Please consider it...

Mac OSX Specific Issues / graphical settings 101
« on: October 14, 2005, 03:29:01 pm »
Just out of curiosity, in layman\'s terms what is the difference between -relight and -nolightmapping?  Obviously relight modifies the maps in some way.  And nolight is a true/false toggle that does what?

For that matter, I haven\'t found documention on it yet, can somebody please breifly explain (what the visual result is) or point me to an explantion of the Zbuffer, Anti-Aliasing, Multitexturing checkbox, Stencil, Anisotropy, and Downsampling settings in the setup app?

Thanks for any help

I have reported it at bugtracker, bug #1127. deathrealm.zip is corrupt. It misses zip central directory. On linux it is easily fixable by runnig \"zip -F deathrealm.zip\". It is easy to fix. IMO the only reason, why wasn\'t it repaired until now, is saving of server bandwidth by preventing users from downloading fixed version.

And about relighting - I get best results by using \"walktest -relight map.zip\" (available as CS application).

Ok, I just started playing the game appx 1.5 hours ago and keep getting stuck in DR where textures are either missing or black.  I can only see to the 1rst door and make it to the 2nd before I fall to the ground without mysteriously dying.  Doesn\'t make the game much fun, esp for a noob (thanks to the friendly advisors for getting me this far!).

In plain english using OS X, how can I fix this?  I\'m off to get that Java app that lets the game run with arguements and try some of the stuff from previous posts, but what about fixing that corrupt file?
