Linux Specific Issues / Re: 020 on Linux x64
« on: October 29, 2007, 08:35:04 pm »
:-\ Well, as I am unable to verify, even with a clean svn data directory with either stable or trunk... the next thing somebody could do if they can be bothered, is try compiling a clean checkout of the latest revision svn stable, without copying any data files over other than zoneinfo.xml and servers.xml, and see how it works... also the planeshift.cfg file in the root, try moving that and checking out a new one.
Just finished a complete newly compiled svn everything (PS, CEL, CS, CAL3D)
Nothing yet.

I have the same issue, and it's definitely not a permissions problem.  I'm running an svn build on 64 bit gentoo.

Ok, good... could you or someone please try move your data directory to data_backup, do 'svn up data/', and see if ps does not crash? if so, I will get a binary package and see what is missing from it... just 'rm -rf data' then 'mv data_backup data' to get your settings back.
Just did that.. still crashes and GUI positions do not save.

I was pretty sure it wasnt a permissions problem from the start too.. but I heard in too many places that it was, so I had to double check.
Thanks for confirming.

:D I only ran PS as root once to test if permissions was the problem.
And yes, everything is read/write.

As Cebot said in FS#483, the config file crash just seems to be a permissions problem.

Then why does the problem exist as I run as su?

Linux Specific Issues / 64bit Client Quest Notes Save
« on: September 23, 2007, 04:07:03 am »
The Save button in the quest notes window
causes 64bit PlaneShift to crash.
Not just once in while either as in previous issues,
but now its every time.

Remember, this is in the 64bit version. I don't know if
the 32bit version has this issue.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: linux updater refreshing issue
« on: July 15, 2007, 05:52:35 am »
Just run "./updater --auto" in the terminal until updater GUI problems are sorted out.
It works much faster in the terminal anyway.

Also when you have a problem updating something (such as "up"), as soon as you start the "./updater --auto" command, delete the file you are having problems with (in this case "up") and everything will go through. If you don't want to delete it, just to be safe, you can rename the file or move it to a different directory.

The gui problem sounds like a write permission problem on the config files to me. Check that you have write permission to all the .cfg files in the PS dir.

The shadows seems to be a decal problem. I´ll report the problem to aarobber and hopefully get a fix for it soon.

Wouldn't have thought of trying that for a while lol

Checked everything.
All already have Read and Write permissions.

Linux Specific Issues / 64bit linux client doesn't save GUI info
« on: July 14, 2007, 05:19:32 am »
In 64bit Linux PlaneShift, If you set the GUI around (window/toolbar positions and transparency) it will go back to the default
positioning and transparency after a successful game exit.
I know that it will not save after a crash to the desktop or a hard game shutdown, but it will not save even after a normal exit.

Anyone else with this problem?

Remember this is 64 bit. I don't know if the 32 bit version has the same issue.

Thank you!

A fixed client for crashing should be available via the updater shortly (within the next 12 hours).

Until then, you can try downloading these psc replacements which should solve the crashing;

http://download.xordan.com/psc <-- 64-bit
http://www.xordan.com/psc <-- 32-bit

Woowhoo
Thanks a bunch Xordan.

Is there someplace I can look to see when the updater is in sync?

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Installation: Roots or User?
« on: July 13, 2007, 04:21:26 am »
....now, is there a specific reason for why you guys install su-wisely?

So that you can have the installer binary throw some scripts into you /etc/bin directory..

with that, you can run PS with just "fluxbox" as a command in your terminal or a desktop link or something

and also to set privledges to the PS files so that all used on the machine can use it and not just the user who installed it and those in the games group ( if there is one on your compy)

you cant do these things unless you have root priv

Will working links be put on the main site for new PSers that don't yet know to check the forums?

@ 64bit users: our version now segfaults.

The install binary that was uploaded to this location last night ->http://download.xordan.com/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.019-x64.bin<- would not launch.

The updated/new install binary that was uploaded in its place since then now launches and installs, but now gets the SegFault.

md5sums

Downloaded on 07/10/07 at about 11PM EST
Install binary that didn't launch:
9ab030e759516c66508574ba33908cab

Downloaded on 07/11/07 at about 8PM EST
Lauched and installed but client SegFaults:
779a0af81af5ad8fda7dcce9591f27fc

Maybe we'll have a third install binary?
I'll be patiently biting my nails as I wait to find out.
