General Discussion / Re: Settings Poll
« on: November 08, 2007, 08:00:54 pm »
I voted for "Mobs" category, but would like to clarify.

I am interested in the interrelations of the creatures (and people) whom we battle.  They all behave pretty much the same; none of them flee when you approach, or when they are near death.  We never see any young, either.  That will change eventually, but here's my vote that it happens sooner.

"Fishing for gold"????   What the heck is that?

Mornox wonders what was used for bait.

General Discussion / Re: what would you consider a powerleveler?
« on: October 02, 2007, 09:33:21 pm »
A powerleveler is anyone who trains skills, works quests, evaluates and analyzes the merits and weaknesses of the game better/faster than I do.

Naturally.

Meet a powerleveler?  Why would i wish to do that?  It's much more fun to disdain.

Mushrooms are worth money to cooks.

Exact same problem here, with char "Mornox"

When I used an alt, I logged in fine...left a petition.

One of my trainers resides there in the Death Realm.  There are books to be read, and of course, one should check regularly to see if there are new books or other learning to be had.

Perhaps it is my kran nature; sometimes I wish to visit the Death Realm and take it in, not as a thoroughfare to be quickly negotiated, but as my intended destination.  It is a curious and interesting place.

As for getting stuck...yes, I get stuck at some point nearly every time I play, and while /unstick doesn't work all the time, it (used to) work often enough that I've been quite inconvenienced by having to /die instead.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: Planeshift 0.3.19 released!
« on: July 13, 2007, 06:54:19 pm »
This fix worked for me, using a Dual 2.5 G5, System 10.4.9.  I copied and pasted all 3 blocks into textedit to remove the empty lines, then applied as instructed.

The md5 checksum for the Mac binary has not been posted on www.planeshift.it.  Here's what my .dmg file gives as md5 checksum:   97e86c2108bd63f0006ade5fa5bbfc4c

Complaint Department / Re: Using ooc knowlege ingame

Consider the possibility that an unknown person using your name in game is simply working within the limitations imposed by the interface.

If we were standing in a roomful of people and I looked in your eyes, and said, "Your shoe is coming apart."  Only one person would look down at his or her own feet.  A few others in the room might look down at the subject's feet, too, just out of curiosity.  The point is, without saying your name, I can convey immediately which person I'm speaking to here in Meatspace.  We don't have this most elementary and primal mode of communication in Planeshift.  It takes only a moment to meet someone's eyes, and change your facial expression to something that makes it obvious you're about to speak; it takes much longer to type it in.  Because of this, I, for one, use a basic shorthand:  The tag identifies each person individually just as if I were meeting your eyes.

Of course I don't know your name; we haven't been introduced.  All I have is a "tag" which allows me to look you in the face when I speak to you, in a manner that is obvious to you and to anyone else present.

Using the tag is simply one method for dealing with this particular limitation of the game interface vs. live interaction.

Complaint Department / Re: The Winch -- What are they thinking?

Anyone having good experiences with the winch these last few weeks?

Yes indeed!  Let me put it this way...

A long-lost friend of mine showed up, handed me an item identical to another one I had had.   I stared at it, puzzled a few minutes until I remembered what had happened the last time I had this item and handed it over for a fellow to look at.  This time would be different, I was sure of it.  After a rather lengthy chain of events I have found myself in the Winch, having followed the path of Dubious Virtue.  I've since counseled other afflicted folk who have enjoyed similar success!

Knowing the path of the Exemplary Citizen, and the path of Dubious Virtue, I wonder what the other path to the Winch involves.   Hrm...Merchants?  Magic?  I can only speculate.

Complaint Department / Re: Hogging of the Furnace

Why is it so valuable at all to melt gold?

I see people selling gold ore for 400 tria per piece, while NPCs buy gold for 240 - and those buying it for 400 seem to do that happily. Even at such a price, they seem to get Richie rich ... or what? What is the point of such an excessive metallurgy? What do people need such amounts of money for?

While I spend a fair bit of time mining and refining gold, I doubt that many would consider me rich.  I'm not wealthy...but my trainers must be so!   Let's see, I'm a devotee of Crystal Way, that cost me 20k to train last week.  So, excellent question, sir...why do these NPCs need such excessive amounts of money?  I'm willing to do tasks for my teachers, as any apprentice should.

And someone earlier in the thread asked why players would need more than 1 furnace slot.  I use more slots (when fewer people at the furnace) because I once experienced the unbridled joy of seeing 10 gold ores turn to slag in an instant.   Now I melt 3 or 4 at a time.  Lesson learned!  And I also agree; there's no desperate hurry here; if the furnace is busy, no one should be using more than a few slots.  Take time, bask in the heat of the furnace.

When will we discover the relationship between Oriven and Reffitia?  There must be a tragic story hereabouts...

When will Nyshyn get her revenge on J.M?    (I want to help!)

Will the dockworker always be courting the fine fenki merchant?  Or will they one day (soon) be joined?  Let the dockworker become happy, and someone else carry the Grumpy Torch.

What's _really_ going on between the Dark Wanderer and Raithen?

Eclipse?  When?

What are those odd holes that make some large rocks in Bronze Doors area appear a bit like swiss cheese?  Are they made by nesting birds?  Avid climbers?

What's that odd upper tunnel for?  The one in BronzeDoors that forks right, and overlooks the pool...it continues and appears to have a deliberately formed step.  Was this an area for sacrifice?  I see no machine works for lowering ore or other goods...

General Discussion / Re: Chyropractics as a new class of skill
« on: April 19, 2007, 05:01:55 pm »
In recent months I've seen a clear need for Chiropractors, particularly for particular female characters.  They're constantly leaning forward to stretch, looks as though they must be in pain.

I wish I could help, but big kran has no skill and might break the soft people.

I wish to confirm what Bilbous reported.  And I have NEVER seen this before a week ago.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: PlaneShift Crystal Blue 0.3.018
« on: February 09, 2007, 03:30:50 pm »
Well, for those who are interested, here are the md5 checksums I have:

PlaneShift_CB_Mac_018.dmg = 18784278e804baafde81841348af64da

PlaneShift_CBV0.3.018.bin = be2e9b92ff1b4e1a56ec77da83fe8b26

PlaneShift_CBV0.3.018.exe = 09f02ae890f71c1c6f647c581d177c7a

I downloaded all 3 clients and left them to seed overnight, but I haven't nearly reached
a 1:1 upload to download ratio.  :\
