Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Got a problem, would like help

Ok, so I just downloaded the game, for Mac.  I\'ve followed the instructions.  I opened the game, and I can\'t create a charactor, it says the server is down when I try to ping it, and when I try to change the settings, they always revert to what they originally were.  Any advice??
