Linux Specific Issues / Linux updater
« on: November 26, 2006, 04:52:37 pm »
Hello,
first of all i would like to say that i am pretty new to Linux

But installation went well and was pretty easy.
Thx Xordan.

But when i run the updater he wants to download a huge amount of stuff.
Only he says that he downloads with ridiculous 2KB/sec.
My usual internet is much faster and working as you see my post here  ;)
What is going wrong here?
And why do i have to update immediatly after installation such a huge amount of data?

Bye

Uhoh,
so i have been wandering to a not correct place for quite a time.  ;)
But no problem at all,
at least some kind other player showed me the way to the correct place.

(BTW: I did not play for quite a time, so you see what can happen if you are absent. A whole citys takes a leap)  ;D

General Discussion / About Road Maps
« on: November 25, 2006, 10:06:55 am »
Hello,
there is one question which bothered me for some time.
Why has the way from Hydlaa to Oja been changed?
Where i used to exit the city Haydlaa on my way to Oja is the way to the BD region.
Has this change any reason and if yes which one?

Thanks for reply

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: Progression & Skills
« on: November 05, 2006, 09:51:17 am »
Hello,
did I hear Tech-tree?
That sounds great to me,
and if it is not that much of effort why has it not been done?  ;)
I would do it,
but i do not have the knowledge to write that kind of stuff.
If someone would give me the information i need I would be pleased to put it into words or graphical display.

The example from Lithox about the mining is a good one how you can get missled from not knowing.
Another one:
I bought myself some new armory and can not wear it because i am to weak.
If i would have known in the first place I would have not bought it
and invested the money in training first.
Also I would not have to carry it around in my backpack while i am earning the money for training.

About the weapons the same,
a simple longsword can not be held by a enki without the right strength.

One solution would be that the Selling-NPC checks the players stats and display the information
whether the player can use the item or not in a warning window before the sale.
(Just like the salesman in Real Life asks you whether you REALLY want to wear the red shirt with a blue tie at your sisters wedding)  :P
But that would be a greater change of the game, i think.
Which leads me to another thing,
i remember that it was talked about to install something like a store-NPC.
Are there any plans to do so?

Greetings Markus

The Hydlaa Plaza / Re: A link to a Lawyers perspective on Windows Vista
« on: November 03, 2006, 09:59:14 pm »
Hi,
from my point of view MS of course needs to protect his Programms.
But they have no right to send whatever personal or technical information in what form ever to their Corporate-Central.
And I do not think they do.

I justified several times the XP-Installation of friends of mine via phone with no problems at all.
They just asked some stupid questions like: "On how many PC did you install that CD?"
I had a legal License sticker and the Original CD from MS that had the same Owner as the PC I installed it on.
So from my personal point of view i was doing only legal acts.

On my Job i sometimes have to design specific technical changes, modifications or Improvments to complex machinery.
So I often expierience the fact that you have to keep it simple to get the best results.
Why not this way:
You have an Original CD and a writen Licence (or a fancy holo-sticker) from MS, you have the right to install this System on a Computer.
You hold that licence, you have the right to have one PC running under this System.
Point.
No Hooks.
Finish.
And please, no more OEM or System Builder Editions.
Again, keep it simple.
same Product = same Price

I can imagine verifications via Internet without sending any personal Information via Internet.
Every Network card has an Unique mac adress.
Why not such an Adress for every CD the sell?

Ah, one more thing.
I am not allowed to sell my licence?
Where are we living?
Of course I should be allowed to sell my licence, why not?
Could someone tell me one point why it should not be allowed?

To Redmond:
I do not have any legal right pending on that suggestion  ;)

Greetings

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: Some Questions
« on: November 03, 2006, 05:30:00 pm »
Hello,
so I see I am not the first on who wanted to have an orientation help like a compass
or even a map.
(Or is that one of the words which are banned to use by the meaning of a painfull death?)  ;)

For the crafting questions I found a rough round-up of the features in the Guides and Tutorials Section of the Newbie-Help thread.
Now usualy there is allways the option to find another Player in-Game to help you and teach you the basics.
But sometimes I do not want to bother strangers with my problems,
as in real-life I do not run across the street asking people to guide me to the next smithey  ;)

About the Black-Board I mentioned.
I did not want to implent a version history into the game,
just something like:
"Got some Iron? Go and try out the new Highoven to make real good steel !"
or
"In need for some sowrd training? Go and see the guy beneath the sewers"
or
" New! New! New! go and get your own personal helmet at XXXX !"
(the xxxx is because I do not know where to get them  :( )
and so on, just some ideas......

Another question:
In the Stats window you can turn on or off a filter.
What does this filter?
I think it shows only active skills if and stats if on or shows all of them if off.

But I am not shure.  ???

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Some Questions
« on: October 30, 2006, 10:52:28 pm »
Hello,
i do not know whether this is the right section for the things i would like to write about.
Anyway, first of all i should mention that i am playing this game now for about 1 year,
but with an absence of 8 months from 02/06 to 10/06.
So a lot of things changed and new skills and features came along while i was gone.
And Players of course too ;-)

First of all i noticed that there was a change of the road from Oja to Hydlaa,
which i used to travel often since i am an Endukai in the game.
This was a little suprising to me, because the world around me tends not to change its roads so extremly.
But okay, it is just a game.
(Here again comes the ask for the implemention of maps or at least some kind of)
This change made me want for something i allready missed in early stages of playing.
A compass, or at least the sun as an wayguide for East, West and South depending on the time.

Then i saw that there was crafting implemented and the mining system redefined.
I remember that you could see the ore in the earth to dig for it, correct me if i am wrong.
And there are new spots to mine, which i think are hard to find without the help of an other player.

What i really miss (or did not find) is a complete manual or instruction for those new features.
It is okay that i can ask my way around in the game,
but that hinders the roleplaying of the game.

What also could help is some kind of signs in the game, like black boards,
to anounce new features if the game and their way to use them.

Hmmm,
better move that post to the wish list.
When i started to write i wanted to ask about the usage of the new crafting system,
but it got a wish-list.

Greetings and Good Night
Markus

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Rules
« on: February 19, 2006, 09:14:16 pm »
Hi,
if it is as you say:

Quote:
\"Keep in mind that the rpgrules.xml file in the CVS is just an example and has nothing to do with the actual HP calculations on the official server.\"

So what is it there for?
And why was it changed when the last weapon wipe and fighting recalculation was done?

Maybe, or better hopefully, there are more sophisticated calculations on the server.
But I think the vars are the same,
or at least all of them are used for calculation of the max HP.

Hi,
there are three vars involved in calculating the HP.
Will, Agility and Strength.
Not more, not less.

Correct me if i am wrong Bereror ;-)

Granted or negated Wishes / Niko's idea
« on: February 18, 2006, 08:19:24 pm »
Hi,

from all the ideas to realize a \"Death-System\" i like Nikodemus\' idea most.
First if all it is something different than realized in other Games, as far as I know.

I would suggest to do as the following:
1. You die ;-)
2. Corpse and belongings stay where they are
3. Soul enters DR or something like that
4. Soul has to find a way out of DR
5. Soul respawns at a random place in PS (maybe limit in radius as the PS-world grows)
6. Soul and corps have to reunion

Maybe even the lost of a item should be integrated,
but then i would like to have something like a storage.
(As in real life I don\'t allways have all my belongings with me, do you?)

Just a suggestion!!

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Never?
« on: February 18, 2006, 08:02:00 pm »
Hi,
first of all:
No i am not an expert in Copyright Law.

Secondly i would like to mention that,
from a long range of experiences i would like to add the following:
Never say Never
(in loving memory of the original 007) ;-)
I think we all saw things happening which we did not believe to happen.

For me as a player (oops, sorry. Tester!) of this Game i say:
As long this Game is free, I will play.

As soon as paying money comes into this Game it would
also have to be compared with other Games where you have to pay.
And I think there is a pretty long way \'till there ;-)

Keep playing,
sorry did it again.
I mean testing.......

General Discussion / OK
« on: February 11, 2006, 10:19:49 am »
Hello everyone,
from reading this thread and the replys from various persons
i learned the following:

- If you want to start playing and don\'t want to be suprised
by missing weapons changed stats and so on you have to
check all the forum first.

- If something happens that you don\'t like and you find
out that it was caused by something that the devs did
take a bite into your desk but don\'t complain.
It won\'t help anyway

- Server motd, or what they are called, can be ignored.
They aren\'t of much help anyway.

- one of the best solutions is to contact a player ingame and
ask whether he knows about any changes since the last time
you were playing.

One more thing about the changed fighting calcs,
it seems to me that all fights are rather quick nowadays.
I still hit most oponents hard but they also can kill me
pretty quick. Don\'t know why, and to be honest, i don\'t
care about. I will get around with that kind of fight also.
There is no way to understand the fight calcs anyway.
And not because of lack of intelligence but to the mere
fact that only devs know how they are calculated.
And i don\'t want to spend time with the experiment
of trying to find out by changing weapons or stats or armor.

Dear Karyuu,

First: yes i think it was a waste of my (the tool) time to walk back.

Second: I did not lack of weapons, i still have two broad-swoards. (Now with a low slash)

Third: When i was kicked because of a server crash i was fighting a mercenary to train my sword level up to the unbelievable height of 8.
So when i was able to get back into the game some days later i started to train again.
Hopefully you don\'t mind that i did so ;-)
But the fight calculations where changed.
So before i could realize what was going on i was killed.

Four:
A server MOTD message at the login could have prevented it,
because maybe i can not write very good in english but i can read it pretty well ;-)

Hm,
looking at the many replys to the thread i started it seems to me that this topic is interesting much people.

Some things i would like to say to make my point more understandable:

1. Wipes are OK.

2. Wipes do not to have be anounced

3. There should be a message in the login that there was a wipe or something critical changed.

4. I do not want to first check all new threads in the forum when i did not play for 5 days because the server was volatile. (Blame me for that if you want to)

5. I like the game very much, as i said, the chat system is very good. In comparison to other games where the have channels and you hear everyone in the game. Not very realistic.

6. I never wrote something like \"do this or that and i will leave...\"

7. What made me upset was the fact that i lost 1 hour in walking from DR to Hydlaa twice to get back to what i was up to.
I understand that i am a tester,
BUT am i then not something like a tool?
And is it good for the devs to waste the tools time in walking than to invest it into playing?????

General Discussion / WTF?
« on: February 05, 2006, 10:32:16 pm »
Hello all,
a special greeting to the DEV\'s
I know this is Beta and in Development.
BUT:
Could you please make an open anouncement if you change
SL-Scores or wipe weapons?
I have been killed twice by a mercenary that i usualy killed easy.
This is very anoying.

I like the game and the kind of communications in the game with other players.
There are other games that are technicaly much more developed,
including crafting, and very much more.
As an example try Eternal-Lands.
With that kind of information politics i don\'t think that you will attract players.

I think i will stay with PS for some time more,
but another such an expirience will make me turn my back on it.

OH, and keep an eye on EL-Homepage.
They have an own segment News and fill it with what belongs into it. :-o

Edit:
Maybe it would could to use the login-screen for information,
i saw your info at the PS-Homepage.
Edit end

Greetings
