General Discussion / Re: a request from the settings team
« on: May 24, 2007, 11:03:39 pm »
Could a Kran also eat only "normal" food instead of rocks, or would they lack the minerals if they only eat bread and sausages? How good can the Kran metabolism use such food? would it cause even trouble to eat such stuff, or is it perfectly ok for them (I only read they eat seaweed because of the salts in it)?

Wish list / Re: Idea from a new player - Basic Stats
« on: March 08, 2007, 05:03:44 pm »
yes, good ideas, but old and probably supposed hundreds of times.
better leveling systems are discussed again and again, and what you wrote is only the very basic idea. Everyone wants the system to be more like that, but that will rather come at a later state.
your post does not have anything new in it.

by the way, most parts of the forums are totally OOC anyway, so you only need to use [] in the forum if the thread shows it should be IC, and that makes no sense in the parts about discussing the game mechanics

Complaint Department / Re: Lack of Axe Crafting
« on: February 26, 2007, 05:25:41 pm »
I think the complaint department rules need an addition like in the wishlist rules, something like "don't complain for missing things that obviously will be implemented later" or a general "don't complain for things that are not implemented, we have the wishlist for that"  :detective:

I (Ebrasch) would like to join the gambling. but....
How is the worth of an item evaluated? Or do players not have to bet something of the more or less same value?
And, can you explain that part of the ticket again?
Betting -
okay, by defualt when you lose you lose your "ticket" that means that you are removed from the match. BUT this is a dice match, so feel free to bet some items, tria or w/e. Not everyone has to bet more money, infact even if the bet is 1m tra per player/round you can throw your ticket in the pot for the roll.

ex..
player 1-5 bets 2k, player 6 can bet a sw ss (hehe.. if they want to), player 7 bets his ticket,"to expensive for me".
same rules follow.. highest roller wins the loot, lowest is removed from the game. (so yes.. you can infact loose many times.. as long as you dont roll the lowest number  ;D )

Then, would player 7 still be allowed to join another round?
Or do you mean when you bet your ticket "by default", that you can replace that with money/items?

and does 2pm -8GMT mean that it is 10 pm GMT?

Sorry for asking so much questions ;)

General Discussion / Rout - a board game
« on: January 06, 2007, 02:43:29 am »
Isn't it a shame how unused the game boards in The Broken Door are?
Because of that, I created "Rout", a game for the 10x10 fields game board in Brado's tavern.
(I think it can be compared to chess in game lenght and complexity, but it is quite different of course)
The rules have been tested a bit and I think they are good the way are now.
I hope you like the game.

I wrote the rules in a Word file and put pictures into it to make everything clear. The file is 1.6MB big and can be downloaded here:
http://www.sendmefile.com/00493825
http://www.share.am/dl/477253701/Planeshift-Rout.doc

*EDIT: I copied the rules into a .html file and put it into a .rar file together with the pictures. The rar file is only 308 KB and can be downloaded here:
http://www.sendmefile.com/00494245
http://www.share.am/dl/332016553/Planeshift-Rout.rar

If you think something needs to be changed about the game, feel free to make a suggestion.
If one of the links does not work, or you think you know a place where I should upload the rules, best send me a PM.

Development Deliberation / Game Board: mark last move that was made
« on: January 02, 2007, 01:09:51 am »
While playing at the game board with a friend in Brado's tavern, we thought it would be good if there was some way to see what the last move was, so you can easily see what has been done, even if you were not watching too closely (for example because you were reading the chat window).
I thought of something like a red background on the field where the last piece was set/changed/taken away.
A different idea would be some blinking signal, but i think that would be too annoying (i remember some complaints about the blinking chat tabs).
Also, there could be a little checkbox, so you can decide if you want this visible effect by putting a hook into it.

The music seems to make problems again.
A search for the codes brought me to this thread: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=17357.msg191016#msg191016
Gizz told me in IRC that turning off the music made him able to play. O--)

*EDIT: and now he said:
[17:46] <Gizz> just had a reply on forums and some guy said turn on vertex shader and it works with sound as well now
[17:47] <Gizz> im gona try sort that music thin out now tnx so mutch for ya help!!!

so i guess Elvi's solution might be the better one

Forum and Website Discussions / Re: Colours on forum names
« on: November 25, 2006, 06:21:04 pm »
imagine this: "i want a golden name too. please promote me to Karyuu"

i had to say it

My pet had it's name for at least 6 months now, so i guess your first idea is the correct one.
The second thing (with the clones) also seems unlikely to me as i changed my pet's name between two different names several times to check on the buddy list issue i wrote about, and there were no problems with that.

And thank you for letting me know there is a protection for the pet names (it's one of the things you will have trouble to find out using the search button). ;)
* VMann grins remembering pets named after players near them

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / pet name protection
« on: November 23, 2006, 03:58:41 pm »
This is what happened: Someone asked in the help channel what to do with a ring of familiar, so i told her the commands. To make sure i remeber them correctly, i tested them. So i renamed my pet, but then i could not rename it back because the name "is not unique". In other words: someone could make a character with the name of my pet, but i cannot give my pet the name it had, because this player's character has it now.
I will need a new name for my pet now, but i will survive that. ;)
To prevent such stuff in the future, the pet names should also be put on the "list of unique names".

Another thing i noticed while changing the name some times to make sure it is not by lag that the server thinks it is not unique: i can add my pet to the buddy list (senseless enough. changing that should solve the following) and it is always shown as offline. But when i rename it after, the old name stays on the buddy list. When i then try to remove the name from the list, i get the message "Could not remove buddy: Character 'name' was not found." in the message tab and in red letters directly in the middle of the screen.

PS: is this message right here or should it be in the wishlist? feel free to move it if you want

General Discussion / Re: PP's XP's and Practice
« on: November 04, 2006, 02:05:47 pm »
About mining, i am not sure, maybe you could interprete it as really digging the interesting mineral and not just the "normal" stone, but i don't really know.

About Metallurgy: I think it is right that after some point you will not learn anything new from very simple works, maybe it could be a little more gradual, so after some time you get less experience and later none, but that is not too important i think.
But your comparison to fighting rats is good. Fighting easy enemies should get less rewarding when you get stronger. By now this was addressed like in Hack 'n Slash games: The higher your level is, the more EXP you will need for the next level, so fighting easy enemies is no longer rewarding. But with the possibility to get EXP from different sources than only fighting, it could be good to have a formula to decide how many EXP you get, but i don't know how it should look like because your fighting strength depends on several stats and skills and your weapons.
Or even better: we get a system without EXP where you get specific experience in what you are doing, and nothing else, as discussed several times (one example: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=24199.0 but there should be more threads like this out there).

Wish list / Re: Make /tells from players optional.
« on: October 05, 2006, 11:11:03 pm »
@Zanzibar there is some kind of auto-repeat to /tells, i don't know the command, but i guess you could use that to let people who /tell you know that you generally don't want OOC /tells

General Discussion / Re: Just...peanuting.
« on: October 03, 2006, 04:58:28 pm »
Hmm, i am using windows, and guild/tells/etc are not in my main tab. Maybe it is wrong in the Linux client only or maybe also in the Mac client?
The main tab more or less shows everything that my character can see/feel/hear, except some details like "you eat the apple and feel better" and mining results are only in the system tab (so my character doesn't know if he had success mining :D), but else the system works.
