I think the mailing list is a great idea, but I would have a guess that it stopped due to workload, which is understandable.

As a compromise, maybe a thread, with a monthly update, using a template for most things and maybe a few lines of comment on the bottom, this would keep typing (and therefore time) to a minimum.

For example :

Combat  : No changes planned soon(tm).

Crafting  : Currently Implementing.

Magic  : Reworking strength of spells.

Comments  : Currently looking at supplying Ekusile with all known glyphs, for such a great idea    ;)

Obviously just an outline, but a template would get the information across quickly.

My apologies if I have posted in the wrong place.

I will be changing ISP\'s in the near future, along with a new email address. With my character account being my current ISP email address is there anything I can do to get it transferred ?

Thank you.

General Discussion / Dwarfslaying - a happy pastime ?
« on: April 22, 2006, 02:21:24 pm »
[OOC]
I have played alot of so called \"role playing\" games, but Planeshift is the best so far, and openly encourages serious roleplay, and I love it. But......the dwarfslaying guild is too much IMHO, Dhralian (spelling) was acceptable to me, I could take it and laugh, but a guild of dwarfslayers has a ring of \"ethnic cleansing\" about it, and I\'m sorry to say I cannot just ignore it and hope it goes away. Sure, we have good and evil, thats fine, but a guild committed to slaying just one race is bordering on racism and harrasment, something that is shunned in this game.

You may not organize nor be a member of any pledges or groups within Planeshift that are based on or espouse any racist, sexist, anti-religious, anti-ethnic, anti-gay, or other hatemongering philosophies.

I would be interested in reading everyone elses thoughts on this matter.

The Stonebreaker Dwarf lifts his Mug from the table and takes a few swallows of Ale, wiping the froth from his beard he looks around at the assembled mixture of races.

\"so, for those interested, here is my story ........

I was born and raised in a small town many days walk from here. My childhood was a happy one, my younger Brother and I would play in the forests around our home, and help out in our family run mine when things got busy. We worshipped daily, and always had the main meal of the day as a family. They were happy times, and I never once thought of life away from there, until....

As I said earlier, my family ran a small mining business, just enough to serve the local community really, but one day my Father found gold, and my world fell apart soon after. Some suspicious looking characters came into the village, asking questions, of course the locals said nothing, but a few days later, as the sun was coming up, it happened. I\'m not even sure of the details because my Mother took my Brother and I and hid in the forest, it turned out that word had spread, and a group of bandits had taken a liking to my Fathers mine. Of course, he tried to protect his livlihood, but alas died trying. These things I found out later, but at the time I distinctly remember my Mother saying we could never go back home, and that my Father had \"gone to a better place\".

Ekusile pauses for a moment, staring into space, lifts his mug and takes another swig of his Ale. This seemingly brings him back to the present, and he continues .......

I remember walking for a very long time, and my younger Brother crying alot from sore feet and hunger. Then my Mother became ill, those were the worst days. My Brother and I fashioned a sled out of branches and twine, we had made such a sled while playing in the forests together.\" Ekusiles voice cracks on those last few words, he takes another swig of Ale.  \" It was slow going, and Mother got worse as the days passed, maybe even weeks. At some point, we came upon a small town, Ojveda as we know it, it has grown over the years and was much smaller back then. It had a small Tavern and we enquired there for anyone who had the power to heal Mother. The bartender was a miserable old bugger in those days, not the Toda we have now. He sent us on our way, without help, but he did point out the way to Hydlaa. That was a long road I can tell you, all hills with creatures we had never seen before. After a time, we came to a forest and felt a little more at ease, and the going was a lot easier. On one particular junction, we came across what we thought was a guard. I remember he was very friendly, he gave us bread and talked of another, busier town up ahead. We told him of our plight, and how we had travelled far. He needed payment to let us pass, but we had nothing. He kept looking at Mothers necklace, a gift my Father had made for her, she was most insistant that he could not have that at any price. It was at this point he showed his true colours, he reached down and tried to tug the necklace from around her neck. Even in her weakened state, she put up a struggle. It all happened so fast my Brother and I were rooted to the spot, and then he was gone, running off through the woods. We attended to our Mother, but she didn?t answer, we cried, we shouted, we screamed ?. but still we could not rouse her. To this day, I believe the shock of what that rogue did actually killed her. The next few days were a blurr, but eventually we came to some large wooden gates, and had to sneak past the two guards.

A faint smile appears on Ekusiles face as he remembers

It?s odd what unimportant things you remember, but I remember thinking they were not very good guards, one of them kept asking everyone if they had a spare sword, and the other kept asking for a sack to put her lunch in, but at least they were too busy to see us as we crept by. We kept out of sight for a while, and got to know our way round pretty well. When I became bolder, I started meeting people, and they helped, a few trias here and there, where to kill for food, what to kill to loot and sell, when we had spare trias, we spent it on training, to be less conspicuos. When I was stronger, I went back to that road and found him, the rogue who had killed my mother so close to safety. He died that day, and I took his precious items as he had taken hers.

So that is my story my friends, of how I came to be here. You need to live for the day, be happy and help anyone who needs it, for you never know what Rogue may be hiding around the next corner.

But as it stands, you have lost the interest of at least two people (a friend was trying it too) and who knows how many others we could have told?

Evil_Rondy, slow down a little my friend.......set the download going for version 14 before you go to sleep. When you can get on, create your character and spend some time in the town, getting to know your way around and those that live there. (IC : DO NOT venture out of the city gates, the rogue at Oja road corner has gone berzerk and is killing even the strongest players). When you spend some time here, you will begin to realise why the main priority is not presentation, or speed of getting the new updates to the mirrors. Those non-windows players do not even have ver14 available yet !!!

As has already been said, this game is free and developed by individuals as a hobby, in their spare time, and a dam good job they are making of it. When we hear of a new release, it is \"gimme gimme gimme\" so that we can get on and test it (tester first, player second), I\'m sure I speak for most when I say I would prefer the developement team sorting the bugs out, and giving us more content, than spending their time sorting the mirrors.

Wait for the download .... It\'s worth it. If you need a tutor for a while when you get on, send me a /tell (you will know how, because while you are waiting for the download, you can read the player instructions).

EDIT - confusing ooc and ic mixture  ?( Im still learning  ;)

A brilliant idea Zan, I would be more than happy to assist you in such a venture.

But we are still creating a system where we are taking RP chat out of the game and replacing it with type.

If we don\'t post such spoilers, new characters will have no choice but to RP ask in-game. As i said previously, when I first started I would have preferred to sit and read about how and why, because that was what I was used to in the past, and your first steps as an RP\'er are quite nervous wobbly ones. If I had been able to read it all, my RP expertise would be even worse than it is now.

After saying all that, I do like your idea. If there is something we could to to compromise, and still make it interesting and worthwhile reading, count me in.

So what im after is, anyone who wants to make a guide for anything to do with planeshift eg.

A nice idea, but .........

Planeshift is all about Roleplay, if newcomers can just hop on to your site to check how and where to do all that there is in-game or they wouldn\'t have to ask other players.

In the forums, you will see lots of \"ask in-game\", \"please don\'t post spoilers\", this is to encourage in-game communication and a community spirit.

When I first started playing PS, I had the same view as you....\"Where are all the sites that tell me what and how to do things ???\". but believe me, yo uare better off without them.

I\'ll say it before Kaayru does .....

\"Ask in-game and try and keep the roleplay alive ......\"

Please don\'t drag me into your disgreement about who did/said what, why and when...but I would like to make a point about posting logs.....

If you have a desperate need to post logs as evidence, I hope you have asked those not involved in your argument (but happen to be in part of the log you posted), whether or not they have any objection to them being posted.

/me has flashbacks to the collapse of a guild (previous MMORPG) because of what was accidentaly in a posted log as proof of something not even remotely connected.

Just my trais worth...please don\'t flame me  :P

Off topic ? I suppose so ... sorry ... back to topic then .....
