General Discussion / Re: Drifting by again.

You do know that you can examine a character to read their gender, race and (homewritten) background, right? That's what I use when I'm RPing with someone .. I first check out their character description (equivalent of taking a good look at them) to know these general aspects and whatever else they allow me to know about them by looking at them.

If you really are an avid RPer you should definitely be able to enjoy Planeshift in it's current state. In roleplays you can usually overcome holes in the game mechanics or completeness of the game by improvisation and creativity.

 :surrender:

Nailed me there I gotta admit.... OK... may take another look when the new version comes out.

Awww damn... I guess I'll continue to wait on the wings then... I'm just to much of a RPer to be able to play something like then when you can't even tell races apart without an OOC tell asking.

Keep up the work guys, you've got a promising start.

General Discussion / Re: What motivates a GUY to roleplay a girl?
« on: May 12, 2007, 09:44:19 am »
I'm just curious as to what makes a guy want to roleplay a girl character? Forgive my ignorance but this is something that has been nagging at the back of my mind for a awhile now.  :P Me personally I wouldn't feel in the slightest bit interested in roleplaying a guy character, but then again I don't even have alts. Everything goes into developing Illysia.

I have been a text-based role player, a table top role player, and have tried various graphics-based RP games. Text-based is by far the best for people truly interested in the role playing aspect of a game. In my role playing experience I have played both male charries and female charries. Playing a male character was a challenge at first -- mannerisms, manner of speaking, the way a male carries himself and reacts to others is (obviously) quite different from a female. After a couple weak starts, I actually found myself enjoying playing an occassional male character because it allowed me to step fully outside myself and not carry my own quirks, preferences, etc into the game.

Favourite male charrie I ever played was a particularly twisted Malkavian (from VTM) named Berlioz who was incredibly fun to play.

*modified for typos

Malkavian = Instant irrevocable win.

NOTE: My opinion is probably tainted by the fact that my RP 'Quirk' that finds its way into many of my better characters is.... mental instability. Ranging from Eccentric, to completely batshit.

Well Hello, hello... I took a look at this quite a while ago and while I was impressed at what PS offered it didn't have a fraction of what it offered. :(

So I'm just drifting by to see how things are going... mainly wanting to see how the character models are going... last I played 1/2 the races where still sharing models and most didn't have genders.

Do all the races have unique looks yet? Are all the Race/Gender combinations available?

OK.. enough for now. :-X

Well I'm one of those who do, I play and RP both Male and Female characters.

As for why.. different points of view. Male and Female characters do the same things the same way for the same reason but completely different motivation, in general of cause.

So gender is just something else that I think about when I start brewing a new character, and whatever I chose it puts the character and personality in a different light.

Well I\'ll be keeping an eye on this.. Perhaps after some of the worst repetitions are fixed I\'ll have another go. I think even I can forgive a couple of moddels doing double duty, but some are being used for about 4 races *shakes head* and (for me at least) that\'s a bit much.

Keep up the good work!

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Question to the Devs
« on: February 24, 2006, 11:59:50 am »
Heya, found this game a few weeks ago but unfortunetly beeing a heavy Roleplayer I\'ve yet to be able to get into it. The reason is the lack of player moddels (as something like 60%-70% of the basic moddels are still missing) and it\'s a bit hard to RP properly when a moddel is being used for 4 diferant races!! 8o ((Not to criticise but this is likely the reason why you have so few RPers playing ATM. True RP depends heavily on the characters responce to the world and other characters, and if you cannot tell one race from the other it\'s basicly impossible))

However I would still like to keep an eye on this as it shows a lot of promise. I was just wondering if theres a basic version timeline that you hope to have all the basic race moddels in? (IE you\'re at 0.3 now, do you expect them in by 0.5? 0.6? Etc.)
