I tried installing PlaneShift new client 0.4.01 on a clean Windows XP Pro SP1 install. Running the client, setup or updater failed. I fixed this by installing "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 sp1 redistributable 8.0.50727.762" (download here http://download.chip.eu/en/Microsoft-Visual-C-2005-sp1-redistributable-8.0.50727.762_1295945.html).

I have had same errors stated above.  I found this link and installed this file and the updater and client run now.  TY Burkin!!!

have any of you tried running the second PSupdater that is created? Would seem logical to me that this is the more recently updated one.

the psupdater2.exe file will not run, it gives the same error as the rest, "This applicatoin has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

and the psupdater.exe file that is in the psupdaterwin32.zip file gives the same error if you replace it with the original psupdater.exe file.

3
Update::

I noticed that when i installed the 0.4.00 version and ran the updater I got the psupdaterwin32.zip file and psupdater2.exe file

I then ran the updater again and it said the mirror was down and to try some time later.

Then i noticed my log file stating this::

Checking for updates to the updater: Update Available!
Beginning self update!
md5sum of updater zip does not match correct md5sum!!
Checking for updates to the updater: Update Available!
Beginning self update!
Checking for updates to the updater: Update Available!
Beginning self update!

I have no idea what this means but could possibly lead to a solution in the future.

To edit the updaterinfo.xml file you have to right click and press edit, or open with.  Then open with notepad.    Thats what i did in XP, i believe it will be similar in vista.

5
In vista, you have to

Try running the updater in administrator mode first. Instead of left clicking to launch, right click and choose Run as Administrator.

You might have to run  the installer in admin mode too.  I dont know for sure, i run XP.

When you downloaded the 0.4.00 version did you download the .exe?

I had the same issue with the 0.4.00 version.exe.   What i did was downloaded the 0.4.00 torrent and then it installed for me.  You can find that torrent possibly on piratebay or other torrent sites.

good luck.

I reinstalled the 0.4.00 version and then ran the updater.  I still got the 0.4.00 version client. I then replaced the updaterinfo.xml file with the corrected one from 0.4.01 and also tried with the one from the Updater post. From the two latter tries i get the message "No mirrors are available. Please try some other time....."

So either the mirrors are down or the file isn't working that way.

Then I installed 0.4.00 version and then without unistalling that version intalled 0.4.01 version in the same directory and to no avail.

I will go to my neighbors tomarrow and download the not torrent version on his high speed internet and try that. (I only have dial-up :'()

Still haven't got pssetup, updater or client working.  I was reading the updaterinfo.xml files between the 0.4.00, 0.4.01, and Xordan's file in the Updater post. I noticed that Xordan's file doesn't have "version name 0.4.01" it has 0.4.00.1

Could be a bug but it seems odd that the 0.4.00 version has "version 0.4.00"  and the original 0.4.01 version has a "Version name 0.4.01" and Xordan's file doesn't have a "Version name 0.4.01"   :)

I am having the same issue as Theive.

I have an XP system with an ATI 9200 Graphics card.

I had version 0.4.00 installed and it ran perfect. I then completely uninstalled 0.4.00 version. Then I downloaded the new Version 0.4.01 from the torrent and installed it. I tried to run the game, i got the error Theive did. I tried to run the updater and same error. Then i read to change the updaterinfo.xml file and did that. Tried to run the updater again and same error. Saved the link of the whole new xml file and tried to run the updater again and same error.

Then i installed the 0.4.00 version again and it ran and its updater ran. I then reinstalled the 0.4.01 version without uninstalling the 0.4.00 version and still got the same error. Then i uninstalld both versions completely, installed 0.4.00, ran the updater, started the game, exited the game, unistalled 0.4.00 version, deleted the file in the programs folder, then installed 0.4.01 version and got the same errors. X-/

One thing that i have noticed is that when i reinstalled the old 0.4.00 version, when i ran the game and the setup all my setup features were still there and my username and password was still there even after i thought i completely uninstalled the game.  Is there some hidden registry keys that must be deleted?  I have also restarted everytime i thought i completly uninstalled the game.

I was just wondering about the Xacha's ancient knowledge. Since we are in a medieval time period, is this ancient knowledge similar to ancient Greek and Egyptian knowledge vs. medieval scientist’s knowledge? How much did the Xacha know? How much did this ancient knowledge spread though Yliakum?  I am assuming that this ancient knowledge stayed with the Xacha because the other races didn’t use this mineral in their architecture. We know Xacha had an ancient knowledge of master iron working (large flat panels of iron, iron rivets) and is still reflected in their architecture today.  Would there have been large mills/factories to pound out all of this metal into large sheets? Would these mill/factories been in their ancient knowledge?  If large mills weren’t used, were masses of people used?  If large mills were used, where are they today?

Where did all of this iron come from?  Surely there can’t be that much iron just laying around on the top soil?  Were/are/will be ore MINES sunk into the ground?

Have the races agreed upon nurturing Yliakum because they know there is a finite world?  Or do they have a mind set of “god will provide” and “god will keep providing”?

Are/will there be VAST stretches of land between cities?  Where one way trip to that city would be a 4 or so Yliakum day journey?  If so, this might lead to “boom” towns of just people.  I think it might be nice, but maybe just me.  But as stated in the history, some races have tried to “own” all the land and push others out.  Does this mean that they own it because they are populous, or just because they wanted to own it?

Is wood becoming scarce in Yliakum?  I sure hope not, because if so, then whole cultures will be wiped out due to the lack of this natural resource.  I know foresting hasn’t been implemented yet, so there is no need for forests yet, but my question lies in the idea of “will the citizens of Yliakum have to worry about conservation?”

That’s all for now, need sleep.

*edit*

I have another question.  Is the government highly involved with the religion?  Does religion run most of the population’s believes/customs/ideas?  Is “Cause the Gods probably made it this way” a final answer to most questions?  Is free thinking encouraged or looked down upon if it offends the religious people, or the “gods” themselves?  Is scientific theory encouraged as a mean of explanation of things in Yliakum, or is the population suppose to rely upon religion for their answers?

General Discussion / Re: Stalactites and Stalagmites
« on: April 11, 2007, 10:07:26 am »
This has been discussed in IRC a few times, and my answer still stays the same until more proof can be given. Some have even said that I think too much about a fictional game.

“Science is only best guess anyways.” (Movie: The Core).

   Known:
We live in a large stalactite
      Azure sun emits Inferred radiation
What most of the outer wall is made of
We have an atmosphere (it rains and we can breath)
      Water comes into the stalactite
How long races have been apart of Yliakum (archeological evidence and written history)
If you put water on a hot coal, the water disappears, smoke appears, and the coal gets cooler.

   Unknown:
How old the stalactite really is
How old the Azure sun really is
Where the water goes after it reaches the lake
What the stalactites that are not apart of the outer walls is made of
      How they are made.

   Assumptions:
      Dew forms
Mist from the water from the waterfall coats the rocks
Iron rusts if left to the elements (Iron temple vs. a well kept iron blade)
We have a definition for condensing
We have a definition for evaporation
We have a definition for water tension
We have reached the top of the inside of the stalactite (flying creatures)

My Hypothesis:

Water reaches the ceiling of Yliakum due to some force during the day. The water then gets heated as hot as metals in the furnace.  This super heated water combines with the “baked” rock (due to the IR radiation from the Azure sun).  Then at night, the water and rock cool forming a mineral enriched water droplet. This water droplet then rests upon a single spot on the ceiling. Then more water combines with it, until the next morning when the Azure sun, again. bakes rock and water.  This baking of the rock and water that has condensed overnight draws the water out of the mineral enriched rock and leaves the rock baked upon rock, forming the stalactites.

Guilds Forum / Re: [Guild] Ecclesian Assembly
« on: April 09, 2007, 10:29:21 pm »
Due to some complications, abundance of ides but lack of people, and just me getting tired of bouncing off ideas in my own head, I have decided to put this guild on the back burners.  I will be joining the CoV.  I will continue to build upon this guild in my own time, but all my efforts will be going towards the Community instead of the Assembly. If anyone is interested in giving ideas about this guild, please post them, contact me in game (Zabio), or send me a line on IRC.

Guilds Forum / [Guild] Ecclesian Assembly
« on: April 05, 2007, 07:17:54 am »
Mission:
The Ecclesian Assembly exists for Yliakum and not for herself. She is to provide a structured society under democratic rule so that everyone can have the full advantage of doing any occupation they wish.  She is to provide a militia to protect her members and to protect the world against the corruption of other such societies and to defend against the invading forces that are set upon destroying her or this world. She is to provide a sanctuary for the study and advancement of the arts, sciences, and crafts. She is to provide RP events that give an increased knowledge, wisdom, and understanding of this world to its members while also giving entertainment and philosophical insight to everyday issues.

Guild Structure
The Ecclesian Assembly will grow like the bodies of the Yliakum people. It will have three phases; Infancy, Adolescence, and Maturity.

During the Infancy, the Ecclesian Assembly will grow in members and stabilize itself as a prominent guild in Yliakum. During this phase, life will be fast and seem chaotic. The Assembly assures its members that life will get better.  With the arrival of new members, the Assembly can then mature into her full self. During this phase, the Brain will have full control over the Assembly. The Brain will guild new members into their specialized ways so that Yliakum and the Assembly can benefit the most from this organization.

When the Assembly has grown enough to accommodate specialized parts, this will be called the Adolescence phase. During this phase, the Brain will still have most of the control over the entire Assembly.  The Assembly will gradually evolve into specialized portions or sub guilds.  These portions; The Ecclesian Militia (The Arms),  The Ecclesian Enterprise (The Legs), The Ecclesian Artisans (Hearing), The Ecclesian Commons (Taste), The Ecclesian Disciplined (Sight), The Ecclesian Neophytes (The Growth).

The final phase is when the Assembly has matured. This is the Maturity phase is where the Brain gives up most of its control over the Assembly to each of the specialized sub guilds. The Ecclesian Assembly still controls the politics, diplomatic relations, treasury, and function of the Assembly. The sub guilds will allow for the member in each sub guild to specialize and thrive with their abilities. This will benefit Yliakum along with the Assembly.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: Is there a Rough time period?
« on: March 05, 2007, 09:05:58 am »
If one is new to role playing and is trying to role play, this ere would be that of the popular fantisy movies you see in theaters.

If you are trying to label this ere in some way or form, you have to wait for history to decide that.

However, we are in an increase of knowledge period.  We have probably just came out of the stone age.  You can deduct this from the stone ruins we find.  We are well into the iron age because we have the iron towers.  However, if we check out our history books, we have had this knowledge of iron working since we have been put upon this land.

Our society encourages the crafting knowledge along with the physical sciences.  We have no knowledge of many of the physics however.  We know things fall, we know Laanx can send people to the death realm and if need be, totaly wipe people from the face of this land. We know that we are in a cone shape world and can study this shape from the cones that are produced along the walls.  Our land has many minerals but only one significant water source.  We know this water comes from ourside our world.  We have flying animals, crawling animals, insects,  and animals that walk upright.  We have experts in these animals, so i wont go into this science at this time.  Our scientists have notions about radiation, but we can not harnis this kind of energy, execpt fire.  We do have an energy we call magic.  This is a very large part of our physical science. We do not understand these properties, but can wield them with great accuracy.

Our gods are very active in ours lives.  [developers, gms, etc]  Some could say that we are not in a utopia due to this active notion of religion.  As we can see today, we can only progress as much as our gods would want us to.  They might give us new technologies, new races might come from the portals described by our priests, they might even take those technologies away from us.

We have a strong form of government.  As it stands right now, the common man cannot become a ruler or be incharge of anything in the official government.  We do however have guilds that can wield power over people.  We do not fear death, we only find it an annoyance.  We do not fear disease.  The first level of our world dose not fear famine, but other levels, food is scarce.  We do not fear much of anything besides social issues and the possible oblideration of oneself by our gods.
