I know, I posted this though to see if anybody had any ideas about options I could change to remedy the issue.

The transparencies on my wings are really weird, my character model is funny looking.  When I select a character, the red spiraling design is just a mesh of pixels spinning under the character.  I'm going to see if I can turn up the amount of memory allotted for the on-board video and see if that helps.

Linux Specific Issues / Funky Graphics
« on: January 29, 2007, 06:39:47 am »
I got me a laptop and installed Fedora Core 6.  It's a Dell Inspiron E1505 and I'm running at 1280x800 res (the game is normal res though in windowed mode) and using the proprietary "intel" driver.  When I run Planeshift, I get this:
Screenie

I updated once and decided to run it again and got a message about a failure, check it out:
Screenie

Could that failed update be causing my graphics problem, or is it something else?

Linux Specific Issues / Re: no attack sound or some special sounds

The latest version includes an alsa driver, and it sometimes conflicts with ones already installed on your system.  Go into the Planeshift install folder, then libs, and get rid of the libasound.so file.  You may want to just cut and paste it somewhere in case this doesn't solve the issue, but I didn't have any sound at all, and doing this fixed it.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Installer Feedback
« on: October 23, 2006, 08:57:52 am »
Just wanted to say that I appreciate you providing a graphical installer.  Makes things much easier and faster and just all around more efficient.  I like the command line, but clicking "I Agree" and "Next" instead of "spacebar spacebar spacebar, y, ./configure" is a nice change.  Thanks, and as far as stability, I haven't had any issues with the installer at all.  Kudos.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / A Few Bugs
« on: October 22, 2006, 06:57:01 am »
After being out of the game for a while I decided to re-download the latest version and start playing/testing again, and I've got a few issues to report.

This bug, I know I mentioned once before, but just for the record I'll mention it again, just in case you missed it(it's been a long time since I mentioned it, and it was a previous version too).  There seem to be a lot of graphics errors where objects meet.  For example a lot of times I get things like this flickering rapidly when I come out of an underground area, and I stand where my pov is just slightly above the ground.

Screenshot

Here are a couple of screenshots of skews inside the sewers, these are not horribly noticable, but they happen quite frequently.

Look at the grate on the left

Also in the sewer, look at the ceiling

Also a long time ago I had an issue with transparency on the trees outside town.  Well the transparency is no longer an issue, the trees look like trees instead of polygonal magnifying glasses, :p.  However I noticed something when I went on to the road which I don't remember seeing before.  I don't quite think the little bushes on the side of the road are supposed to look like this.

Screenshot

My final issue is not really a "problem" or a bug, but I noticed the little hint box that appears when you take damage for the first time is slightly mis-measured.  The scroll down button is barely noticable, and hard to click on, and if you miss it and click the bar itself you end up accidentally scrolling all the way down to the bottom.

Here is my relevant system information:

Operating System: Fedora Core 5 Linux
Kernel Version: 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5 i686
Processor: 2.2 Ghz Intel Celeron (32 bit)
RAM: 1 GB Dual Channel DDR
Graphics Card: 256 MB(128bit DDR) NVidia GeForce FX 5500 (405 Mhz)

If some of this has already been reported, I apologize.

Development Deliberation / UI Modifications - GM Please Read
« on: October 22, 2006, 05:03:46 am »
I know that, like all other MMORPGs, hacking to give yourself an unfair advantage is strictly prohibited, but what is your stand on UI modifications?  I ran a search, and am re-reading the Player Policy and haven't seen anything regarding it, so I figured I'd post this.  I play World of Warcraft, and they do not allow modifications that give you an unfair advantage, but they do allow UI modifications that let you customize or change the user interface to a certain point, so that you can navigate it to the best of your ability.  For example I have a mod that keeps track of damage done, healing done, etc. in parties so when we go on big raids I can take a look to see who is doing their job and who is just sitting back soaking up exp and drops.  Are UI modifications of "any" kind prohibited, or when PS gets out of testing can we expect to see a slew of nifty mods being pumped out?

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Linux Version Crashes Before Startup

Sound issue fixed, after reading a few topics I moved (didn't want to delete in case it didn't work) the libasound.so file out of /libs and sure enough after getting rid of that file, my sound kicked in and everything works without a hitch.

Right now I'm going with no sound at all, but with the previous version I do remember I had sound.  Music and everything.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Linux Version Crashes Before Startup
« on: October 22, 2006, 04:10:54 am »
Just an update.  I got around to just re-installing my OS.  No problems, it was just really really cluttered, I wanted to switch back to KDE and didn't want to spend forever removing remnants of old Gnome stuff and installing things that I found missing, so I just did a re-install and installed KDE this time around.  Not sure what's different this time, same kernel, same hardware, same OS, but now the game runs perfectly, except for no sound, but it's starting up and connecting, so I'm happy.  There's probably a topic regarding this sound issue somewhere in the forum here, so hunting I shall go!

The older version of Planeshift worked fine for me on this PC with no issues.  I just did a completely clean install of the latest version, and nothing works "except" the uninstaller, :P.  The Updater, Game Client and Planeshift setup all crash.  I tried running the files from bash and all I got was the message, "Segmentation Fault" with all of them.  That was it.  As I said I ran the older version on this same computer in this same OS with no issues, so I'm not sure what happened.  Here are my system specs:

Operating System: Fedora Core 5 Linux
Kernel Version: 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5 i686
Window Manager: Gnome 2.14.3
Processor: 2.2 Ghz Intel Celeron
RAM: 1 GB DDR1
Graphics Card: 256 MB NVidia GeForce FX 5500

Would me installing it to /usr/games instead of the default /opt cause a problem?

have you remembered making them executable? Usually only the uninstall script/binary is set like this as default (if i remember correctly)

I did a chmod -R a+rwx /usr/games so that should've taken care of it, but I'm pretty sure even if I hadn't it would have just said permission denied instead of spitting out a Segmentation fault.

I was headed down into the sewer to work on some rats and maybe get some things to sell and I ran into a bug.  As you are looking down the little ladders, the left edge of the hole, just over the edge I walked just to look around and I could see through the ground to my left and everything had a "repeat" effect.  Like it trailed my mouse and the trail stayed on the screen, you know what I'm talking about.  Here's a screenie if it helps you out, just wanted to let you know I'd ran into this.  It didn't impede gameplay, as soon as I walk back out onto the normal ground my view returns to normal, but every time I step onto the brown edge of the hole it comes back.

Screenie Here

I read the "Known Fixes" topic and managed to somewhat fix a problem I was having with my GeForce FX 5500 video card.  I "was" getting names meshed together.  Now in the space where there used to be another name in green really small, the top half of the character's name is still missing.  Here's a screenie of what I'm seeing:

Screenie

Like I said it's nothing huge and major, I can make out most all of the names and can play the game and see all other fonts perfectly, I just ran a search and couldn't find any topics about this so I wanted to get it out there so you guys would know about it.
