Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Questions from the IRC channel

Here\'s a question that came up from the IRC channel recently:

This guy (smoberly) get this error when connecting::

CheckLinkDead: Sending heartbeat message 4 to server....

Also he is running it in Linux and has tried clearing Port 13331 on his firewall.

Any suggestions?
