Wish list / Re: Crafting improvements

As for the models and the textures, do you really think that the Devs envisioned sword blades and handles looking like books for ever? ;)

Crafting is relatively new to the game, it will be improved in time, or should I say Soon(tm) :)
I agree with you whole heartedly on this - This game is very early in development and will take time before texture detail and expanded craftable items become a priority.  I do believe that this would have already been in the developers' minds when they began the whole crafting system.  I have had my hand in writing small games in the past, and i had the whole picture in my mind and spent months patching it as I perfected/debugged the basic system.

I personally think that PS is the best testing ground for innovative ideas that is available and I think it should stay that way to avoid it becomming just another MMORPG clone.
I kind of disagree with you on this though... Planeshift already became a clone of a lot of popular MMORPGs just in its creation.  While it does have its unique features, a lot of its core is very similar to every other RPG out there.  I think all that seperated planeshift from everything else at this point is the training system and its state of infantcy.  Eventually they will have to impliment the ability to craft special and rare weapons to keep the crafting system more interesting than getting a super ubber weapon or item from a enemy or quest.  I agree with you in the fact that they should not be cloning the exact system from another game, but weapon/item crafting is very hard to make unique, and i think planeshift's developers have already done a great job at making their system stand out from other MMORPGs.  The actual process of creating an item in planeshift is angled more towards the realistic side of it including the time consumption... I think that was the key.  Sorry about the rant - I tend to speak my mind very easily.

They need to do more than fix the bug... when you buy weapons from the smith they are already -80% on their effectiveness.  It is almost better to level Melee and go weaponless.  The weapons have to be repaired way too often too.  I have to carry an extra set of swords just in case.  I mean seriously... why does a sword last less than 20 minutes of battle, and take almost 10 minutes to repair?  That is kinda retarded.  I have level 7 repair skill and it takes 66 seconds to repair a short sword for between 4-7 quality points.  My idea of what would make sense.  Perhaps make the sword work off melee skill when it starts to become heavily damaged, or maybe penalize the sword skill instead of its damage output.  At level 0 sword skill i was hitting with 5-7 damage.  Why would i hit with 0 at level 17 Sword skill with a sword with slash of 3?  I could hit harder with a spoon!  I was hitting with 0 DMG with a Sharp Short Sword that was at 0/50 (Sword Skill 17 STR 102).  I unequipped and was hitting the mob with 1-3 DMG bare handed(Melee skill 3).  It does not make sense to be able to hit harder bare handed than when a broken sword is equipped.  Anything in your hands at all should make you hit harder than nothing.  Next would be the rate at which the weapon is loosing its quality... I like the feature since it does make sense that a weapon should loose its shine as it is used, but it should not loose its shine just as fast as you can fix it.  20 minutes might be a little too short for loosing its quality (I am thinking 45 min to an hour is a better time frame, but it could even be longer, especially if the depreciation of damage stays on the same system the time frame should be several hours at least)... but 10 minutes to restore it to new is entirely way too freakin long to fix it!  especially since it costs almost 400 trias and 10 minutes to repair it from 0 to full at level 7 repair.  I appologise if it sounds like I am venting, but that is because I am.  I think this was a retarded change to the weapon system of the game.  And if there was better intentions... this change was way too buggy and extreamly premature.  Flame away if you choose - my goal was to get my point/ideas across to those who can make changes to fix this.  I really do not care if some of you disagree with my bold and blunt oppinions.
