Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: Updater.jar not accessing files?
« on: September 27, 2006, 09:45:58 pm »
Yes, I have an admin login. Internet access is functionaing normally.
I cannot get the updater.jar to work.

I have dloaded the 3.0.15 version again. Mounted the .dmg, copied the folder to my desktop, downloaded the updater.jar for Mac OSX 10.4. Put updater.jar in the folder.

The updater app does not open, so I then tried updater.jar - the updater.jar runs - but I get the same result as my first message. If this is something about being behind a firewall, I do not what it might be. I am able to download other documents, applications, etc. from my browser and from ftp apps.

The firewall is a Cisco product.

Any ideas that I need to ask an IT administrator?

Dowloaded the .dmg and the updater.jar, again.
It has the same errors when attempting the upgrade. Upfdater.jar runs - Updater does not run, through terminal mode either. If it something with being behind a firewall, then I need another option.
So, back to my first question - Is there another way I can download these files to upgrade to the 3.0.16 version? It cannot be that difficult to replace files.

Most definitely connected at the time. I have been using email and browsing while the updater was running.
There was no version.dat file after downloading 3.0.15. I downladed updater.jar as well, put it in the same folder as the client.
Running on:
Mac OS X 10.4.7
2Ghz Intel Core Duo, iMac

Client ran before the new 3.0.16 update.

Is there another way to get the updated files, other than running the updater.jar? I have tried updating for 3 days with no luck.
Thank you for any help on this one.

I have come across something very curious, a way to run the new version of planeshift (although, it is kinda annoying to run it this way)
First, you need to have Xcode installed (I have only tested this on the newest version)
In /Developer/Applications/Performance Tools, there is a program called Shark. This is what you use to run planeshift.
Open Shark
From the left-hand drop down menu, select Malloc Trace
In the right hand drop down menu, select Launch...
In the window that pops up, select the executable (this will be psclient in whatever directory you put it).
Select OK, now planeshift should run.
You have to do this everytime until the PS team fixes the problem.

This did not work. Has anyone had any luck starting psclient this way?

Computer type: Dual 2.3 G5
Mac OS Version: 10.4.7
Processor: 2.3 GHz PoerPC G5
RAM: 512 Megs DDR SDRAM
Video Card: ATI

Planeshift runs:y
Average FPS:
Platform-specific bugs encountered: have been playing for 2 days. Now I've had 7 crashes in a row following start-up. It crashes when the region starts to load. I finished off in the arena, now it will not load and just crashes the game. Here is what I get on the load:

Loading Game
Requesting Connection
Loading World
.....and then it crashes, now 12 times in a row.
I have restarted as well as repaired permissions. No change. Tried to create and upload a new character and it still crashed.

UPDATE:
I trashed the Data folder and replaced it. Everything seems to work fine now. Not sure what file in the Data directory was the problem.
