Wish list / Re: Conforming Levelling Progress to RL weeks
« on: September 17, 2006, 05:39:37 am »
Don't be angry with me, but I have to sa one short thing about your point.
All this "My character is better then yours" and "Your character shouldn't be better than mine" is all the same power-gamer-attitude.

For me and for many other it is not important how much strength or endurance or whatever a character has, but how you came to know him/her, if she has been there for long and so on... I 'm playing ps for about one and a half month now and already maxed my attributes...but that's no reason for me to not respect other players, that have been playing longer, even if I'm now as strong as them or maybe even stronger...apart from that I respect even very new ones with respect, and I simply don't know what your problem is, from the rp-point of view.
Is your point all about your own power-levelling and you're depressed about other who got more time to train?
Or is ps for you all about duelling and you fear you could lose when you next challenge some newbie?

Why does the time spent on levelling affect your rp so much?
Many people are pleased if there is nearly always someone around for repairing weapons...you want them to buy a new weapon averytime their's is used up and noone can repair it, even not they themselves, because they got no points for it?
Or do you want to restrict mining? Although I got pp en masse, I wouln't touch a pick for 1000 circles and thats only for rp-reasons...
And if the reason is, that others level their mining too fast: would it ffect your own?
For Fighting: Even if I can't level, I would go on fighting, you wouldnt take people from the arena with that.
And those who are often within he arena: I haven't met 2 ppl, who weren't roleplaying...those I would call powergamers or bad rp'ers are mostly found in hydlaa plaza (cause most newbies start there, and you need some time to acclimate - and it's not meant as an insult), others I met between oja and hydlaa...

Sorry, but I simply come to the conclusion, that you want to get some special treatment for being a constant player for longer than me or others. (thats rather normal, it has always been a part of human life). But if you have neglected your physical developement, it's not the fault of some characters, that do concantrate much on it....Thats the reason for progression points....with your system they have no sense any longer...

The 5 Rules of True Metal

1. Be true.
2. Be TRVE!
3. Solos are true
4. Bass Solos are definately not true
5. Rules for True Metal are not true either  ;D

There was a time, when even I listened to Manowar. But I was young and didn't know what I did. I truely repent with all my heart.
(I even saw Hammerfall live - best was there 1. Supporters (Nostradameus, everything else sucked^^]

OMFG!!
True Metal... nothings more embarassing for the whole metal scene^^ X-/

Quote
If you're playing Rock 'n' Roll, play it without lies.
Always be as brave and proud like an eagle in the sky.
If you want to be remembered, there is one thing you should do
When you play your music gotto KEEP IT TRUE
Ahh, I know its not Manowar, but True Metal is all the same (it's Majesty)

Btw, there is no band apart from Manowar, that could write a whole album with only 7 words (and those are the same on every album^^)
Brothers
Metal
Fight
True
Warrior
Blood
Pride

First I thought about this thread was: "What could a handfiul geeks invent, that 9000 years of civilized mankind could not?
But as I see, I was a bit wrong, some ideas sound rather good, I shall have a second look and think of something myself.

I think the idea isn't too good, everyone's roleplaying, also through fighting...why should someone, that has a account for month but is actually online only 2 hours a day be stronger than a character, that has really trained his skills for days?
Someone that is rping always isn't fighting in your opinion - so why should he be stronger than someone that's fighting a lot?
i myself do train much...and i play a kind of good character...duelling is a matter of training for me too, i never fighted pc's alot and why should I?
Just the fact that I am stronger than someone else is no reason for me to duel him, and all training is reason to not rp...
just because other players have other opinions of what rp should be, you shouldn't want to restrict everyone that does it not your way.
i do not see any sense in only killing and do nothing else in a rpg and people who are ooc all the time are not the ones that should play planeshift...a shooter would be better for that...
but i also like to get stronger and see, that you receive more respect.
but although i do much training, i also see, that i'm a respected rp'er in yliakum
and  must admit, that if i couldn't level any longer, i would most certainly create a second char for that.
to be forced to be not able to fight could be very boring...if you're a miner you want to mine to improve it, if you're kind of fighter, you want to improve your fighting through this. if you play a char, that is much into his mining, what would this workaholic look likei f you restrict it?

let's referr to real-life
you just started playing football and do train every day, unlike most of your team.
would the couch or the first quarterback or whoever tell you to stop, because you're getting better too fast?

oh, and pleeeeaaaaase let me give the answer also now
NO^^ \\o//

Now I at least understand your point much better...

What we thought of, was a video for a greater community and even non-planeshifters, and therefore there should be some atmospheric music, that underlines the whole planeshift-theme.
But as far as I understand you, all you want to do is a cool video for yourself and maybe some friends...to this point, it's totally ok with me, even if you use some mainstream-pop-music.
All I wanted to tell you is, that there are many bands that fit the theme of planeshift more.
But if that is no thing you care about, then go on, because it's your video and you shouldn't care about freaks like me, who tell you about music ;D

Enjoy your videos!

I just came to think of a little list of Bands for you and also others. To some I have add also one or two special songs:
(In alphabetical order, not supposed to be complete of course^^)

Apocalyptica (Metal played by Cello, instrumental)
Blackmore' Night (the new band of Deep Purple's Richie Blackmore )
Des Teufels Lockvögel (?)
Dunkelschön (?)
Eichenschild (?)
Elane (?)
Faun (?)
Gregorian (Gregorian Chant, but mostly modern songs)
Honigdieb (?)
In Extremo (doen't fit my taste but they fit the theme)
Letzte Instanz (Metal, they tried many things, even a bit new metal, but songs as "Sing Halleluhja", "Rapunzel" or "Der Geigenschüler" could fit great)
Nachtgeschrei (?)
Potentia Animi (?)
Qntal (Also very great medieval music, although they use some synthies, "Vos attestor" could be great for some fighting scene)
Saltatio Mortis (personnally I don't like them, but they could fit very good)
Sava (?)
Schandmaul (see Saltatio Mortis)
Schelmish (everything could fit)
Subway to Sally (the last two albums won't do, but the earlier the album is, the more it fits^^)
Tanzwut (this is, as they say, Medieval Industrial^^, most things do, rather powerful)
Thanateros (much influenced by Irish Folk)
Therion (Some Metal with classical influences)
Volkstrott (?)

Also some classical music could go (See John Williams and Indiana Jones or Star Wars)

(?) = I myself never listened to them

Hope this helps you and all others a bit.

Something about music:
Although I really like metal, I don't think it would fit in too much, even if lyrics are more suitable...

There are bands that try to fit medievil sound, at least here in germany^^

Apocalyptica might fit into also, but I think of bands like Schelmisch, Saltatio Mortis, Subway to Sally, In Extremo, Qntal, Letzte Instanz, Thanateros, maybe even Tanzwut....thats quite a bunch as you see.

I think so, but since I spoke to someone who thought, she realized the same, I thought about posting it.

12
Not that serious, but I realized that female characters seem to loot much less than male.
I came to talk to some female that thought the same, noticing that male chars we spoke to loot more and better, although they don't fight that often.

Might this be of some bug or just a subjective experience without any referrence in yliakum?
Perhaps some interference with randomizer-variables?
Maybe others that noticed the same could post here.

I actually don't think it's a bug, but if others complain too, it can't be ignored I think.
Let's see. ;D

Not to understand this wrong: I got no problem with it.
But why do I need to call myself a Killstealer, if I attack a newly spawned rogue, by a guy, that is camping 4 rogues the same time???
This is not Killstealing, this is greedy, Scathlar of the Protectors!

Sry, I must have been fallen back into german  :-[

1. Yes, I meant practical knowledge and theoretical knowledge to level up a skill
It  shouldn't be like it is now - that you have to do all the theoretical part to be able to get practical progress.

2. The rule should just be "Respect other players" and one shouldn't be banned if not responding once or so...but it would be nice to be able to warn someone, let's call him "cs-kiddy"  ;D
Someone that destroys the atmosphere and the fun of other players, but does not break the rules that exist already

3. I made my way to some money and progression with the help of others and through long and boring hunt of rats.
It seems, that its far easier for miners to start.
But I see my char as a hunter and she would never think of mining, just because of envy?
No, she wouldn't, she's not envious. I as a player on the other hand do see it another way - I didn't mine, because it didn't fit the concept of my char
There are also some concepts of a char, that would not ask for help, so you can't make it inevitable to ask for help.

3.5 Maybe they have exclusive contacts, ok, maybe...but for the people in hydlaa it would be nice if not  ;)

Wish list / Training and some more
« on: August 22, 2006, 10:31:15 pm »
Hi,
I got some little wishes.

The first one is to revise the training-system.
I don't see the poin in this. If you start playing Football you don't have to learn everything first and then start playing.
The system of first learning all the theoretical part to then learn the practical isn't very realistic.
I would really appreciate, if this would be more flexible (but stick to the percentage of theory and praxis depending on the skill).
In my opinion it would be better to be possible to learn some praxis, although you haven't got all the theory, what doesn't have to mean, that you could learn all the praxis without theory.
This is just an idea, how to put his into praxis - on some proportional increase of theory and praxis or whatever...maybe one of you has further ideas.

Second one is the following:
Most people out there are really kind and nice fellows, but some there are also others..
Very few people seem to be rather rude and don't even react, if you want to tell them.
Therefore I would like the obligatory rule to respect all other players.
This wouldn't be a problem to most, evil characters included, because also as an evil character you could at least respond to others (even if it's just a "shut up, this is not my problem"^^), respect people camping enemies (or just ask to take turns etc).
Due to this roleplaying ppl might not even notice this rule, others could at least be warned by gm's.
I think this could really improve the whole gaming experience.

3.:
The entrance to the world of planeshift is rather hard - I know this was said many times but I want to talk about it another time.
as an Enki you can rather easily start with killing rats, because you can sell hides directly there and the rest can be sold to the Death Guardian after getiting killed by a rogue. In Hydlaa you can run to the Arena to sell materials (as a Beginner hard to find), selling hides is nearly impossible, because it's so far and hard to find.
Mining is not everybody's thing - especially for rp-chars (why should a hunter or an alchemist start mining??)
I would appreciate, if everyone would get something to start with...a weapon or some money or a rock pick...depending on his profession and on the parents. Also  a little quest to get people into the world would be nice, this could be a little quest, that the parents gave to the char, to find someone, that is already existent. This person could also be the one, tha provides the little weapon/rock pick/money i already talked about.
Players won't be just overwhelmed and give up even before they got really started.

3.5.:
In Brintec's quest there is something about a caravan. (btw a quest i can't solve like many others - a bug or are we too dumb?^^ i don't expect hints about the quest, just if someone could solve it^^)
Why don't you implement this caravan? Perhaps even moving between the cities and selling all kind of things there?
Apart from that, it would be cool if they got a permanent npc in out of the cities, near to the gates.
These do not need to sell stuff, but buy all kind of stuff, like the Death Guardian in the DR.
Therefore you wouldn't need to run so much between the cities, just to sell some hides. (it's rather unrealistic, that noone in hydlaa buys hides). While it's definately said, that this caravan buys and sells hides, it is also very realistic, that they trade all kind of stuff between the cities of the realm.
If the caravan arrives in a city, it could also sell all kind of stuff. even things you can't buy elsewhere (daggers for example, or tefusang hides for the quest, if you don't find a weak tefusang (although there is one somewhere ;-) ), might be even more rare weapons cause they travel much...)
