Well, turns out text works whenever it wants to. It usually fixes itself after loading into a new area. Anyways, I've fallen to my death, fun. I can't get out of death realm, even more fun. =P Yea, I majorly suck lol. Overall though, this game brings back fond memories of when I played EverQuest...*Sighs* Though, I think I'll wait for a more powerful PC before really playing this game, cause there are still some other issues besides text (like not knowing how to play the game, and the text only works when it wants, so in-game help isn't an option for me, thus why I'll wait for my new PC) ^_^ Anyways, thanks for your time Karyuu, and your help. Seems though that I sorta solved this issue myself heh. At least, if anyone else complains about this sort of thing, just refer em to my thread lol. =P

Anyhoo, doodles! And as for the massive lag, I guess it's my computer whenever I'm in town, cause I don't lag much in the wilderness (but I couldn't find anything to kill, pooey).  :(

You can get a Geforce 6200 (with 128MB DDR) for $35 Newegg.com - unless you'd like to wait more and splurge on something much higher ;)

*After some pain-staking time and effort* Nah, that's alright, I don't think I need that. ^_^ Why? Cause I GOT THE GAME WORKING!!! ^_^ WOO!!! SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ARE NO MATCH FOR MY CRAP-ARSE PC!!! Lol!  ;D

Anyways, to anyone that may suffer the same problem, how I did this was simple. I first turned my graphics acceleration off. Can't play the game that way, no sir. It lagged creating my char, but at least the text was readable. After char creation, and entering the game, I've exitted (had it in windowed mode, closed it using the X in the upper-right). Afterwards, I turned my graphics back on, went back on the game, and as I suspected, the text was scrampled again, but the graphics were back to normal. Once entering the game, I was struck by massive lag. Is it cause my computer sux? Not necessarily. More like, the starting town is HEAVILY OVER-POPULATED!!! X_X Happens to me with every MMO. =/ Also, the text was still scrambled with the buttons on the top and such, managed to mess with the in-game options at least to help me abit (managed to read a few). Afterwards, I walked as far away from the area, and entered a new area (went through a loading screen). MIRACULOUSLY, after going into that new area, I was LAG FREE, frame rate is high, the game actually runs at a decent pace for me (almost perfectly smooth, but not 100% smooth, but it's not unbearable lag). ^_^ On top of that, after loading into that area, ALL the in-game text is FIXED and READABLE!!!  :D Now what I don't understand is...why is the text scrambled when I'm in the starting area, but the other area I entered fixed all the in-game text on buttons, chat, and everything? O_o? o_O?

Just thought I'd let you know...wondering if the text problem is a possible bug on the game's coding part on the start...which only super-computers can somehow by-pass it without even noticing, while lower-end PCs have a hard-arse time going through it. =/

Anyways, just wanted to let you know the game WORKS! ^_^ And I'm gonna go try it now, try to figure some stuff out, see if it's just my computer, or if it's really just that area where char's are created.

Good to hear you making progress :] I still insist that 32MB on a card won't get you anything perfect (minimum is twice that, remember) so there isn't much that we can offer you from here unfortunately. At least nothing that I know of.

(Going to merge your two threads however - better to keep things organized into one.)

Heh thanks Karyuu.  :( Alas, though, if I have to accept that my computer is...crap-tastic, then I guess I can't play it...OR, I could just create some RANDOM char (without the ability to read the char races or family trades and such), and just test the game =P I'll laugh if the gameplay will be smooth and the text bad lol. It would just mean I would have to be an anti-socialist then in the game lol  :(

Sorry, had to make a new thread today. Not getting any traffic on my old one anymore...

Anyways, Karyuu, if you happen to come by here, I've discovered something rather facinating.

Now, as you know I've been having text issues with the login and char creation screen. On my old thread, I kinda made a new reply today about something that happened, but so far no one seems to have noticed. I've started up the game, and closed it improperly using CTRL+ALT+DEL, had a few error complaints, yada yada, the usual. Then when I tried running the game again in Windowed Mode (with 800 x 600 Resolution on both my desktop as well as the Setup option for the game), I've had a series of errors (the type where you click either Close or Details, and then it asks if I wanted to save a log of the error, yes or no, I kept clickin Close and No, it was annoying, it did it quite a few times). After all those errors I've went through, the game was starting up, and at the top it said the game said I had no Hardware Acceleration (funny, cause I know I DO! Errors must've screwed it up). So the game's loading, that once pretty smooth picture was abit pixelated due to no acceleration. Then, when it loaded, I was shocked and in awe...cause for some STRANGE and WEIRD REASON, the text at the login screen was PERFECTLY READABLE!!!  \\o// The downside is I wasn't able to play the game lol.  :(

So, what does this tell me? Well, through some experimentation with my Graphics Card (btw, found the advanced options for my graphics card, it has 32MB just so ya know), I've lowered the acceleration twice (tried once, didn't work, but second time was a charm). Anyways, after rebooting with the new acceleration setting, I tried the game again with the same resolutions. Amazed and astonished, the text is FIXED!!!  :) The down side? I can't see character graphics or any textural details if any.  :( I was able to READ the char race names for once though, but whenever I clicked em, all I saw was like say...the lower half of a person's body (a pair of legs, and no bod, ouch).

Anyways, sorry for the really long post. I just thought I'd bring this to your attention and I wonder if I've gotten closer to solving this issue. I'd like to hear any suggestions anyone has to offer.  :)

Haha Go Gunz!

800 by 600 looks fine...

You'd be surprised. I have GunZ, Gunbound, Maplestory, MUonline (newest one I've downloaded thus far), Planeshift being the most recent of the bunch. I also got Golf King since it's also by ijji.

As for the pics, yes. The Setup window looks fine in 800 by 600, but this is outside the game. Inside the game, when you go to login and char creation is when the text is messed up. No matter how many different resolution combinations I do between my desktop and the game setup's resolution settings, I can't get the right match to have the in-game text fixed.  :(  I came close though, got like the login screen words showing abit, but when it came to choosing a char and race, it was all cramped together again.  :(

*EDIT* No, haven't fiddled more with the video drivers. Also, my girlfriend wants me to go upstairs to bed, to play Pokemon together heh. (yea...me and her are in our 20s. I'm 21, she turned 20 on the 10th this month, and we're Pokemaniacs...well, I used to be one, but my gf got me into it again since she got me Leaf Green heh).

Sorry, but I think I should get goin. Thank you so much Karyuu for tryin to help. Perhaps we can continue this discussion tomorrow either on this thread, or a new thread, or wherever. I swear though, I will NOT give up on this without a fight. =P No game or computer problem has stood in my way, and has been victorious.....except for the random unexpected computer crashes, that problem still eludes me, but I shall track it down, tie it to a post, AND TEAR THE PROBLEM TO SHREDS WITH MY SUPER SHARP RUBBER CHICKEN BLADE OF DOOOOOOOM!!!  Ok, see ya'll tomorrow. ^_^

Ok, gf helped me out heh. Here's 2 pics in different resolutions of the setup.

1024 x 768: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v639/Leo_Kmari/ScreenshotofSetupin1024by768Resolut.jpg

800 x 600: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v639/Leo_Kmari/ScreenshotofSetupin800by600Resoluti.jpg

I've been trying this method with the game as well, and I do get close to where fonts are almost readable.

Ok, as stupid as this may sound, I know how to do alot of stuff, and yet, I still suck at uploading images lol.  :( Anyways, it's easy for me to show em on MSN Messenger. As for inserting them here, I know I could use the Insert Image button, but uh...I forget the command as to how to send the images lol. Do I type the directory path or something in between the 2 [img] thing? (yea, I feel like a newb when it comes to this). >_<

*EDIT* Don't need to save money for a new graphics card btw. Getting a completely new computer eventually soon from a friend of mine. ^_^ Just want to try Planeshift before then, cause it's still a loooonnnnggggg ways off before I see that PC.

Oh yea, as for the DxDiag...same old, same old...=( Keeps sayin that I have the latest up-to-date DirectX blah blah blah, won't open up any window.  :(

*EDIT* Oh yea...modified last post, just in case you haven't noticed. Also, if it's possible, do you have any sort of instant messenger Karyuu? I have AIM and MSN. MSN is leodafleabag [AT] hotmail [DOT] com (yea yea, silly name, long story to it, was nick-named a flea bag on EverQuest cause I was a Vah Shir Beastlord heh). AIM is LeoDaFleaBag. It may be easier to possibly solve the problem quicker with instant messages, then once solved, I shall praise you, grovel at your feet, and never bother you for anything ever again. =) And if only my PayPal account had ABIT of money left in it, I would've donated it to Planeshift for the awesome game and good support. ^_^ Unfortunately I r poor.  :( But I greatly appreciate the help I'm getting so far. ^_^ You put SOE to utter shame. =P

Broke up email address - not a good idea to have it public for net spiders.

Heh trust me, I know the difference between my computer having a constant moan, and an insanely loud crackling. =P When my computer starts the crackling, it freezes 2 seconds afterwards, have no time to properly shut down when I hear it, eveything freezes, including my mouse, and CTRL+ALT+DEL isn't an option (cause it doesn't work, and it's a nasty sound like something's scraping or killing a baby cat that's scratching the chalk board in your local school).

Anyways, aside from that (sorry for the double-post earlier, won't happen again, thanks for the tip).  :) I will try to update my DirectX, though I don't think it'll allow me to do so if I have the latest.  :-\ Wish me luck, I will get back with you momentarily on how it goes. ^_^

*EDIT* Latest Up-To-Date DirectX INSTALLED! ^_^ That's the good news...the bad news is I betcha it won't fix the text problem. =P But, I'm having high hopes that I'll be getting warmer and warmer until I get it fixed. It can't be graphics, it's just the text, that's all ^_^ It's GOTTA BE IT! =P

*Second EDIT* Well, tried it, text not fixed. I seriously think it has something to do with the resolution. I'd like to know what resolution everyone's using, and whether they're using Full Screen or Windowed Mode. Also, I didn't mention this earlier, but whenever I quit out of the game, I get this error message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runetime Library
Runetime Error!
Program: C:\PROGRAM FILES\PLANESHIFT CRYSTAL BLUE\PSCLIENT.EXE
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

*Ques - This is the part where Karyuu comes in*  ;D

Ironically to say, I know my system doesn't meet the requirements, yet even though it's hard to read the text, I've made it to char creation, and strangely, the char selections and their graphics are ok (and it has a smooth frame rate when I rotate them, doesn't have any frame rate lag). Though the graphics do kinda remind me of the old-school graphics of EverQuest, my PC used to play EQ until they started updating all their graphics to the point my computer became unbearable for it.  :( Anyways, I strongly believe I can run this game. As for dxdiag, tried running it, for some stupid reason it just said that I have the latest up-to-date DirectX and that it doesn't need to be updated.

As for my graphics card, unfortunately, I still can't seem to find how much MB it has. =/

I could say though that my computer plays some old but decent games just fine (Black & White || Half-Life || Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition || Dungeon Siege || Warcraft III || Warlords Battlecry III || Serious Sam Gold || Etc.)

Yea...I'm a hardcore gamer you could say heh...though it may seem like I have alot of time on my hands, unfortunately, I do not.  :sweatdrop:

Anyways, I'll keep lookin for my graphics info. Yea my computer may be at the low-end to be running this game, but it seems that it could run it at a decent pace (I have MUonline on my computer and that game plays alright. You should check out their requirements, I thought I wasn't even gonna be able to play it).  ;D

Whew, I type too much X_X Hope that helped abit. If you could lead me into the right direction as to where to look for the full info of my graphics card, I'd appreciate it. I can't seem to find the exact things I want on My Computer properties...

*edit*

750 mhz Athlon should be able to run it.

The Graphics card won't and you should look into the crackling sound.

Thanks Nurahk.  :) I know my PC should be able to run it. As for the crackling sound, I've already replaced my processor fan as well as cleaned out a crap load of dust that was crammed in the thing. As for the crackling, it hasn't stopped since I've replaced my processor fan, so I believe it may be my power supply unit, which wouldn't be good (cause that's the only other place I suspect the sound is coming from).

Please avoid posting two or more successive posts before others have replied. Just "Modify" your last post to add new information. Thanks! --Karyuu

Aw crap...Houston...we have a problem.  :'( Tried installing updated Graphics Driver...and for some oddball reason, it doesn't find my friggin graphics chip on my computer, and it canceled the installation.  :'( I strongly don't think that I've chosen the wrong driver. What I do know is that my computer is on the fritz, and has been having problems...=/ Mostly problems where it does this nasty crackling sound after awhile, and then immediately freezes and locks up, and needs to be turned off immediately improperly before it catches fire or something.  :( So yea, my computer hasn't been seeing much bright days. Reason why I'm on it right now to just test Planeshift before my PC decides to die for the night. =/

Anyways, any other suggestions? I remember seeing a thread about someone posting saying to change something in the config to correct the text problem, but I'm uncertain how to open the file. I would do it if I knew what program to use to open it with (whether I should use Notepad, or some kind of word program or a scrpt editting program).

First off, I apologize for the all caps for the title of my post. Thanks for fixing it.  :) Also, I have an NVIDIA TNT2/TNT2 Pro graphics card (it's kinda old school, so is my PC, I got Windows 98. As for specs, well...I have an AMD Athlon processer, with 256MB RAM. As for how many Mhz (yea, I don't even have a Ghz, which is sad), I believe it's 650mhz? Or 750Mhz, I forget.

As for DirectX, I have either Version 8.1b or 9.0c, forget how to check that.

Anyways, I guess I could try updating my graphics. Not sure how I can check what's the latest update I've gotten on it.

Hope all this helps heh.

I'm new to this game, downloaded it out of curiousity. It kinda reminds me of EverQuest, but anyways...

On the login screen and character creation screen, the texts are almost 100% unreadable. I've tried changing resolutions in the options, as well as between Full Screen and Windowed Mode to see if it would improve. All attempts between resolutions and the Full Screen / Windowed Mode failed... :( I would like to know if there's a way to correct this. Are there any patches, or config files that I could access to modify to fix the issue? (I'm not a genius at modifying configs, nor would I know what program to open them up with, so bear with my newbishness).

Please help asap. I'd really would love to try this game out. Thanks.  :)

No thread titles in all caps please.
