It always takes freakin' ages. The state of affairs with password reminders/activation emails is ripe for innovation, one possibility of which could be the use of instant messengers. Yo would pick your IM service and enter your ID# while registering or requesting a password reminder, and tweeweeweeweet! - your activation/reminder arrives within seconds. Just a dream...
