I'm level 0 metallurgy with full training (bar's entirely green) and can't get to lvl 1...

Ah... You need to have some Progression Points gained from some other source, and also some trias, so that you can buy Metallurgy Skill training from level 0 to level 1 ....Harnquist is probably the citizen you need to talk to for that.

thats what i meant - i already got full metallurgy skill training (bar's entirely green) - that's what it's supposed to look like if i got full skill training and have to practice now - but that practice is supposed to give exp, which it doesn't...

You still need the book for that. But now molting iron doesn't gives practice points anymore. But anyone with the book can make iron stock and making any stock is the only of getting practice points now.

I don't seem to get any practice points at all... Neither for melting nor for stock casting...
And yes, I got the book in mind...

1.  The talking window is extremely awkward.  6 different screens makes it very difficult to communicate  in a timely way.  All text should stream in in the lower left corner, and custom color coded and filtered to the player's desires.
The only screen that matters is the main screen.  The rest of the screens deal with OOC dialogues and so are in a different category of less immediate importance.

I don't really agree to that...
Fact is IC is more important than OOC. Thats just how it is.

I don't think the System messages are ooc... And well, if I talk to NPC, I do it IC...

And, _please_, add something like a "world" channel, where everyone can talk with everyone, which would lead to less noob questions asked at the same time but in different places and would show all noobs that there are many people playing this game and chatting and asking questions. Is it much easier to take part in an existing discussion than start one by oneself and it makes it much easier to integrate in the community...

I would be very very strongly against this and I think I'm right in saying that the majority of players would be. Think of how OOC it is and all the needless chit chat that could be done in tells.
I just found it useful in other MMORPGs - and everyone is free to intervene if it's getting to much ooc... And it isn't more ooc than the guild channel... why should guild members be able to communicate no matter where they are? (I'm not in a guild, so I didn't use it this far... So correct me, if it isn't true...)
But if you already tried it, and it was such a desaster, then I won't convince anybody anyways ;)...

I just think it's very hard to start with PS and try to find something to make it easier for noobs...
I know PS isn't intended to be easy, but scaring away new players because they don't get started can't be the goal either...

so long,
Ened

PS: Always look on the Noob side of life...

The only screen that matters is the main screen.  The rest of the screens deal with OOC dialogues and so are in a different category of less immediate importance.

I don't really agree to that... Example:

  • You are on Main screen, but trying to get some training from a NPC. If you don't have enough Money, it will only be displayed on Systems screen. If you know that, its easy to switch to the appropriate screen. But if you'r a noob - as i am, and everyone was - you _don't_ know. So you wonder an do not know if it worked or not - especially as a noob doesn't know how it looks like when it works
  • You were talking to a NPC and forgot to change back to Main screen - So you don't realize when somebody wants to speak to you - which won't encourage people to do so, as you may be considered as unattentive or even impolite

That would really be easier if you had a Main screen where everything is displayed and to have the possibility to swich the different channels on and off. Then everyone is free to define what is interesting for him and what isn't...

And i, too would appreciate the option to display local chat as floating text over people's head, as it makes it easier to see which character is actually speaking, and not which "name" is...
And it makes it easier to realize that someone is actually speaking - I got adressed quite some times at the beginning without realizing it, because I had accidentally disabled the chat screen or was busy with myself and this made me very sorry for that person - especially if i could have helped him...

And, _please_, add something like a "world" channel, where everyone can talk with everyone, which would lead to less noob questions asked at the same time but in different places and would show all noobs that there are many people playing this game and chatting and asking questions. I hope I did not go too far away from the original post... ;)
