General Discussion / Re: German PlaneShift Community and "spoilers"

Some of the correct dialogue needed for solving is so remote, so impossible to guess without assistance, that making a big deal over any 'spoiler' seems foolish to me.

Provide Rizin with some examples. Watch what happens. Be part of the solution: don't proliferate what you see as a problem.

Heck, provide US with some examples. I'd love to see what you consider illogical.

First allow me to clarify.   I did not say that the quests were illogical, but unable to be solved based on logic alone.  For example,  in 'Gorbiak wants to speak better', after starting the quest, the next step is to speak a statement in '[removed]'...something not available from other than someone else passing the information on to you.  Or 'Sierann is Waiting'...one has to know to ask him '[removed]' to get things started....the only quest that starts in this manner as far as I know.  Or Kilas' Test of Education...not sure where those answers came from, unless in some obscure book in the library.

It is true that most quests can be completed based on the information presented in them, but not all.  For some, it seems you simply have to get help from somewhere.  That is the point I was referring to.

I appreciate the efforts of all who have put this project together, and admire your talent and creativity.  I do wish that the defensive tone which I have noted in these forums could be eliminated...there is nothing wrong with members expressing their opinions.  Just disagree...as is your right.

I fail to see what the great transgression is in all this.  It's hard to believe that anyone questing in Yliakum has not had clues spelled out to them, whether in dialogue or (mostly) through guilds.  The real problem is the nature of the quests themselves....they simply are not logic based.  Some of the correct dialogue needed for solving is so remote, so impossible to guess without assistance, that making a big deal over any 'spoiler' seems foolish to me.  It's acceptable to help a friend online or to 'secretly' offer them the answer in a password protected guild website, but a grave transgression if it's published in a public forum?  I fail to see any difference, except that the newcomer without a support system does not stand a chance with many quests.  Perhaps if all quests could be reasoned purely with logic and clues, then there would be some validity in withholding 'spoilers'

The only positive aspect with the system as it is might be that newcomers are forced to converse with others and hope for assistance from them.  Just my take.

Fyredal bows deeply.   "I do not know you well, m'lady, although we have met a few times.  I do hope you are doing well, and I'm confident that you know the spirit of Yliakum is with you."

Wish list / Re: Mining is dangerous ...

Zhaxor, there are many outstanding ideas, based in logic, within your post...hope many come to fruition.  So far as reawakening in the danger zone, one can only rely on pure luck and speed.  It shouldn't be so dangerous that one could not run like the wind to evade danger or worse. And sometimes, another visit to the death realm will just be inevitable.

Perhaps I have simple tastes, lady, but your everyday outfit is simply outstanding!  Hehe, and you once said you were "only a miner".

Seems to me an easy temporary solution would be to post a list of broken quests in this forum so that they could be avoided until repaired, thus averting conflicts with other quests.  I doubt there are so many broken quests, nor repairs occurring so often that this would be a problem keeping up to date.

Most newcomers to Hydlaa will generally go to Harnquist's smithy and ask those around for help getting started.  Many a newcomer has been given tria or weapons there by good-natured citizens, and then shown the way to the sewers to battle the rats in order to gain experience and loot hides and rat parts which can be sold.  My experience has been that asking in a kind fashion is all that is necessary.

Once again, I must reiterate my feelings that bugged quests should be made public to the planeshift community.  We are told not to exceed one quest at a time, yet that one quest could be bugged, creating conflicts with other outstanding quests.  Please consider giving us a list of defective quest (similar to the list of skills that cannot be trained).  I do not believe that repairs are so quickly made that updating it would be that difficult, and simply divulging the name of a quest should certainly not constitute a spoiler.  Just a thought for your consideration.  Thanks for all your hard work.

Mrriyah, I have sampled some of the music for the event, and it is a wonderful selection.  Thank you for your efforts.  Hopefully, more of this type music will appear in future versions.

General Discussion / Re: Factions (What are they? How do they Work?)
« on: June 11, 2007, 06:11:36 pm »
Yesterday, I completed two quests which stated that my faction with certain groups has increased, yet none of the values changed when looking over the stats.  One concerned an increase with Klyros, which doesn't even appear in my listing. Are the factions values active?  Or is the increase so subtle that an increase would not be obvious.  Finally, has credit been given for tasks completed prior to the appearance of the factions tab.  Thanks

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Re: Quest issue
« on: June 03, 2007, 07:43:04 am »
Could someone explain to me why there is no published list of quests that are broken or "lifetime lockout".  Conflicts regarding quests are a chief source of problems for many in the planeshift community.  Difficulties could be avoided, and frankly, I see no difference between a list of this nature, and a list of skills that cannot be trained.  I think any warning would be far from a "cheat".  Just my take.

Outstanding, my good friend.

I have read the entire post and have to agree, (with the exception of the GM comments, of which I have no experience), that there are valid problems in all mentioned areas. I wouldn't rate each as harshly as you have, but I understand your sentiments.   I also believe that the devs are trying to address many of these  issues---and it will take time.  Yet I can only admire the world which has been created, and continues to improve.  There's also more to this world than simply its gameplay...that is the citizens one gets to know.  It appears to me that someone is always "stepping up" at the need to help others, or tell a tale, or set up a picnic, or even help you with the dreaded "NPC exact wording".  And I've been fortunate enough to make some valued friends in my travels.  So, although I recognize many shortcomings, I also see that this is a fine work and I am grateful to all involved in the project.  And it's free, aka a gift, so accept it or leave it alone.

It's a shame that your review might prevent some from the experience many of us enjoy.

Complaint Department / Re: Quests which cannot be abandoned...
« on: May 08, 2007, 06:05:34 am »
The bottom line is that the quest system is flawed at this time, and I am sure the devs are working on it.

In the end, there must be the ability to wipe a quest clean, and it should never be possible for a quest to be offered when there is a conflict with an  NPC from a prior open quest.  And, I hope the finished product allows for more than one quest to be opened at a time (unless, of course, it would cause a conflict).

Until then, some of us will just be stuck in quest limbo until a quest wipe occurs or the issues resolved..

Have been using the shortcut for awhile, and it works great.  Thanks for the tip.
