In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: Jayose expands Hydlaa Library
« on: May 25, 2009, 03:58:42 am »
[Does this thread mean the knowledge seekers are an "official" guild now?]

Kinda depends on what you call an "official" guild. The Knowledge Seekers have been an official planeshift guild for many years in any case. The fact that we are now "employed" by Jayose to review all of the books you find worthy to submit for inclusion, doesn't make the guild any more or less than any other guild in any case. We've only been chosen to make a first assessment on fitness for the books you'd like to have included in the library.

This is maybe due to the faulty lightmap information, xmltag Basecolor, contained in the maps. Even after the latest update, this has not been fxed.

I've updated the latest versions of hydlaa_plaza and hydlaa_jayose. These new mapfiles can be found on http://planeshift.alphasys.nl Please take heed of the backupnotice. Please try these updated mapfiles. If these work for you (for these areas), and still have problems with other maps, then list those as reply here. I'll then fix/tweak them asap and make them available on mentioned site.

I started with 0.3.016 or maybe it was 017 already... Bronze doors were kinda new back then but already open. Since then, a lot has changed... Quests and skills were constantly added. New glyphs and spells too. New crafts... Too much to keep up with... And I might get the order wrong, but this is what I remember:

First really new expansion I witnessed was the opening of the Winch section. Lots of quests were added to help that. And chainmail armor became the next new thing.

New skins were added for Thunderclacker, Maulbernaut, Marfusang, Poison or Fire Carkarass, Wrathrats, Amigo consumers too I think... Guildhouses became a reality, with the massive scales in there. And Platemail armor was added. Some didn't show yet though. Crafting started to work around here, I think.

Then the Derghir village came into being, and ofcourse the Derghir themselves... And Dermorian females were added. Tlokes were seen for the first time.

Next, I guess, were new gobble types, then Gugrontid came and the caverns in Ojaroad and BDroad.  Xiosia destroyed a guardtower and her tree grew in it's place. The Velnishi came to Yliakum, then the Riverling. Platinum became the new coveted commodity.

A second guildhouse type was then added. And the Gobble huts. And the Black Flame area... Also the Deathrealm changed a bit. Not really in layout, but mostly in art. Staircases started working so people could get on bridges and on guard towers. Cooking and Baking was introduced.

Soon after the rogue camp was added, which also helped with equipping some merchants with tents etc. And the Winch area was expanded with the new suspended platform and the buildings on either side.

Well, that's it "in a nutshell"... All along the way, quests, skills and trainers were constantly expanded upon. Something that added a lot to the gameplay, but doesn't have a visual impact.

My name, Andoryn Thaakor, would be properly pronounced as Ahn - doh - rihn tFaa - kor. But I won't look weird if that gets messed up by anyone.  ;)

I'd like to know more about the buildings. All buildings.

Who built them? Are there still builders around?
Where did the materials come from? Is there still evidence of this gathering of materials, and if so, where?
When were the cities/houses built anyway?
Buildings mostly look similar according to region, so is this just a sense of tradition or were they all built at the same time by the same people?
How did the big stone face get to be on the BDroad?
What happened to the Emerald city, so it's now in ruins? And what is Canyt investigating at the Fortress?

Now that should give some interesting stories... I hope...

Wish list / Re: Writing books: Set title and copy functions.

It's good to see I sparked a conversation here, and having different viewpoints, I bet something good will come out of it. The additions in 020 as mentioned, will be helping a great deal already. Can hardly wait to test them out.

Most options so far, do mean a lot of changing, at it's a service we're buying, not an item. As the price for a copy should in somehow correlate to the length of the book, it's kinda tough. Unless there's a sort of magical item people can buy and "use" to make a copy. Somewhat like a repairkit, but then a copykit. That will have a fixed prize though. So maybe some limit can be built into it, so people need multiple kits for bigger books. Maybe the easiest way to implement it with the current possibilities in mind.

How long will it take you to copy a 1000 word book 100 times, compare that to how long it would take to cast a "Duplicate" spell 100 times and tell me which you would prefer to do. ...

If the 1000 word book is worth reading and thus copying, it's not that bad to pay, say, 5000 trias for a copy, now is it? That's the price you pay for having Jayose do the hard work. On the other hand, if the author is willing to part with the book for a while, you can always buy an empty book and do the work yourself or just copy the parts you like best.

Anyway, keep in mind the time and don't just make a ton of copies of a book. Before you know it, everyone has a copy and they get thrown away as if they were yesterday's newspaper. There are no cheap paperbacks in Yliakum.

Wish list / Questlogs and serverfailures: Saving all the hard work.

I may be the only one who finds this really annoying, but let me explain: I like to make detailed noted on quests. What I said to whom and what the response was, or whatever I recieved or had to give. This involves quite a bit of time at times, as some NPC's tend to be, well, narrative.

If a connection failure occurs while I'm updating my questlog from the NPC chat, everything I've typed so far will immediately be discarded as the only choise left is to press "OK" and have the client quit on me. Now I really really wish I had a choise at that point. Okay, so I'm disconnected. But my chatwindow is still in view, and my questlog is also stored locally. So please please let me finish and save it? Please?

If this occurs now, I have to copy my chatlog to a second PC (because taskswitching causes the client to crash), get back in game, open up my questlog and try to finish it on-line before the next disconnection occurs.

Wish list / Writing books: Set title and copy functions.

If it's possible, I wish for books, the ones you can buy at Jayoses and write in, to have a function to give them a decent title.

Right now, once a book is bought, it's "title" is compiled from the buyer's nickname and the statement that it's a blank book, with a number added if it wasn't the first one.

Once a book get's filled by it's owner, that title just won't do anymore. Specially if someone is particularly narrative or longwinded, he or she will end up with a lot of "blank books" with numbers and a tough time remembering which number is what.

Furthermore, it would be nice if there was a way to copy books. Maybe Jayose can fill that void, for a fee ofcourse, which could consist of the price of a blank book and a price per character/word/sentence. 1 tria per (non whitespace) character wouldn't even be excessive imho. It's tough copying calligraphy.

Lending books to others will get rather awkward if the author sees the person disappear for whatever reason. The only current alternative is having the book in an open trading screen while the other reads it.

The Hydlaa Plaza / Planeshift community Hyve started.
« on: March 17, 2007, 04:49:57 pm »
I was looking on hyves for a planeshift related hyve, and to my amazement there was none! So I started it. It's an international hyve, so anyone is welcome to join in, I've just made it semi private, so you'll have to ask me for access, which then will be granted asap ofcourse. It's just to stop flamers and other non-related things from happening.

It's URL: http://planeshiftmmorpg.hyves.nl

Please join me in building it. For those of you that don't know: A grouphyve is a place to put video's, pictures, polls, messages etc for a group, while personal hyves are about a person, and have according personal extra's.

So if you have video's on youtube/googlevideo, or nice screenies and other planeshift related things to share, please join up and share.

I know, that all can be done here aswell. I just thought it would be nice to have another place to consolidate multimedia content and related stuff.

If you're going to apply for membership, it would be nice to include your main player name.
