General Discussion / Re: Idea: Stats that are hard to max
« on: June 22, 2015, 09:58:32 pm »
Stats are not needed for role play. The skill of your imagination is all that is required for role play. Stats don't matter at all.
For PVP, characters need to be able to reach the same level as the more experienced veterans, without spending years grinding. There has to be a close to level playing field for PVPers, regardless of whether or not they RP. When PVPers have similar skill that they can all reach without ridiculous amounts of time and effort, the PVP is more competitive and the fighting becomes less about what stats you have and more about how you use them(The skill of the player). There is absolutely no point for anyone, who only RPs and does not want to PVP to have high stats. I see no necessary connection between stats and RP. I'm sure there are RPers who like to have amazing stats, or stats that suit their character, but it is not necessary unless they want to PVP frequently. Imagination is all that is necessary for them. I know I will meet arguments on this, but this is my opinion.
But PVP does have a necessary connection to stats, not all of them obviously, but to the basic stats and the weapon stats the connection is unavoidable and undeniable. PVPers, some who RP, some who don't, deserve a fairly even playing(fighting) field, considering all the grinding they have to do just to make sure they are not at a massive disadvantage to their opponent. The best PVP fights I have been a part of and watched in PS have always been between players who are virtually maxxed out in any skill that is useful to their chosen fighting method.  The PVPer will always strive for the most effective fighting skills and you see this in all games that have PVP mechanics. Whatever kills other players effectively, is what every PVPer wants and will focus on getting/having/achieving, to be fair to themselves and each other.
Furthermore, to be fair to themselves and each other, all frequent PVPers will strive for full sets of enchanted armor, weapons, amulets, etc. and whatever gives them an edge against their opponent. These things are hardly needed for RP, unless you intend to choose to RP your char or your guild into real actual PVP. Which plenty of people have done or still do. Pure RPers who like to roll their dice to decide their battle outcomes, or just pre-design the outcomes of their RP conflicts, from my point of view, have no reason to care.

General Discussion / Re: Fighting on Plaza ALWAYS OOC???
« on: July 09, 2007, 09:54:13 pm »
is the law , No Fighting in Hydlaa, the result of attitudes expressed over time by hydlaa citizens throughout hydlaas history? or just an idea that a handfull of decision makers think is suitable, so suitable these same decision makers employ others, called GMs to enforce the idea on the imagination of PS players, as well as manipulate their in-game actions.

Is there a story relating to PS history that explains why violence in the plaza is frowned on any more than in any other area of yliakum?

Is there a point in time where the people who make up the community of hydlaa actually have a say in its common laws, or are they always going to be handed to them?

If violence in the plaza was such an issue and bearing in mind that it probably happens daily, why isn't there mechanics in-game that prevents it at all?
i know developers always say they are busy busy busy, but usually if ps has a problem or bug that is an issue, it gets attention before other ideas do.
Why after so many releases, can violence ocur there?
The only answer i could think of was to add to the feeling of reality, but this didn't make sense to me, when i remembered how many times the sense of reality in-game had been destroyed for me, through the attempted enforcement of PS rules, that like all rules are open to interpretation.
But now i'm wondering, .......are PS rules open to interpretation???
And do these rules evolve with the community that grows alongside the developing game, or against it?

probably all stupid questions, but thats how my head works.........Ok, target is ready(me) .....time to attack!!

yeah thanks all for your replies, i just thought it was a silly mistake that someone made when they typed, but you have all done so well in correcting my obvious ignorance on the topic, now i can see that it was i who blundered. i suppose for consistency, all characters should be reffered to as male from here on, because we all know they are both male and female.....

at the time, i thought it may have been more suitable to have chosen an obvious unisex term, such as the word "their" and i originally made this post to casually inform whoever typed it, so they could change it if they chose. I should have guessed the typical scenario would unfold.......... \\o//

wasnt sure if anyone had noticed, but the lates news update reads
"how his past experiences influenced his current behaviour" or something like that anyway.....i'm assuming not all players are secretly males. just thought i would point out the obvious error there

General Discussion / Re: Have there been any known "Security Issues" w/ PS?
« on: February 28, 2007, 02:57:29 pm »
i remember reading a post in a forum, but i don't think it was this one, although you are welcome to check! the post i remeber was titled "the rats are hackers", which is a strange title! the writer of the post mentioned a particular type of error message that they received when ps locked up on them. They obviously knew more about computers than myself, because they seemed to understand the error message and they were showing a lot of concern and sent a copy to the ps team. They mentioned they were in the sewers at the time and i got the impression from what they said, s well as the title of their post, that they were avoiding asking the question  "doesn't this error message mean that ps has security issues?" or something of that nature.

I am currently looking for this post and the error message, if i find it i will post it here

just another victim here of the training bug, in my experience anything i have tried to train in(which has been the skills with new max limits) has dissapeared when i have logged back into play next time. it is consistent and continues to happen, preventing me from training anything i want to train and taking all my tria in the process!   let's have 100k compensation for everyone who has suffered............"yeah sure" i here you say!

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / vaieund quest bug
« on: December 12, 2006, 11:18:02 am »
the npc Vaieund has a quest where he asks for some items. i obtained the item, but vaieund would not accept it. i discarded the quest and re-triggered it, again trying to hand him the item he asked for, but again he would not accept it! Am i missing something, or is this just a broken quest?
I also noticed that the item vaieund requires, shows up as a weapon, with a damage and speed value, when it is actually literature!!! I tried equipping it to attack someone, but it cannot be held. Perhaps this has something to do with the quest not working. If anyone knows something i don't, feel free to tell me >o)

Wish list / Re: Skill limit
« on: December 09, 2006, 05:54:55 pm »
i agree, practically the lvl training can rise forever, without anyone getting past a certain stage.  based on the impossibility of having enough time to gather the pps needed to reach such amazingly high lvls of training. i imagine that the training at massive levels would cost a fortune and hardly be worth it, unless you want to have no time left to rp! we can all buy potions and raise our stats massively, but nobody really bothers too much, because of the effort involved. i may have made a point there somewhere.....hopefully. At least i am no longer a ps forum virgin!!!! >o)
