The Mongols and ancient Chinese used silk as an "armour" because if the wearer is struck with an arrow, the silk does not tear but wraps around the arrow head. Although it does not prevent the arrow entering the flesh, it reduces tearing of the flesh and allows the arrow to be (relatively) easily removed without causing further injury, because the barbed arrow head cannot dig in. So cloth CAN be used as armour. (There are no ranged weapons yet of course  ;D)

Cha0s, I tried to PM you but I'm getting an error: "You are not allowed to send personal messages.". I tried to do it by going to my personal messages screen and clicking "New Message" on the left sidebar.

You cannot PM until you have made 10 posts on the forum.

This happens when the NPC server is down. You just have to be patient and wait until it is restarted.

Read this answer should be in there.

A Guide to Running Planeshift on Mac OS X

http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=14416.0

Tried everything in there and it's not working. When I try the "chmod 755 psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient" command (and for the setup and updater apps) I get the message "No such file or directory".  ???

I've now tried downloading the client from different sources and get exactly the same thing.

Edit: Thanks to dfryer's help I've now identified that this is a problem with my ISP not with PlaneShift. It seems they installed a new firewall and blocked port 7777 at the exact same time as I downloaded and tried the new client.  ::)

Thanks again to Janner too.

eesh. I have windows and the servers are still down. Am I the only one? Updater wont work and every attempt at connecting to fragnetics is a failure.
I have this too. The client launches fine but it says the server has failed. But at http://laanx.fragnetics.com/ it says there are people online.  ???

I think this is a really useful thread, is there any chance it can be put with the important topics and kept at the top of the page?

Yes, I had that problem. So I ran the updater.jar and now it works fine.

Run the Java updater. Play. :)
That's what I did anyway. ;)

Thanks, that's all I needed to hear. Worked for me too!  \\o//

Apologies if this is obvious to everyone else, but what IS the current situation with the Mac version? The Mac client status thread says the current version is .017, PlaneShift WILL run on a mac and you CAN connect to the server at this time. So when I'm getting a "wrong version" message on trying to connect to the server, is that becuase .017 is no longer the current version, or is there a server problem, or is it a client problem (even though it was running fine before)?  ???

Sorry but it's not too clear to me.

So this is a normal occurence for Mac users then? Shame. I've been running without any problems up to now. I absolutely love the game; hope it's back up soon.  :'(

I had the same problem with the shift keys. I think for some reason it wasn't identifying left and right shift keys as separate keys. I went into the in-game options menu and changed the keys – shift (either) for run and "`" for sneak (but just use whatever you want). Try doing the same for any other keys that don't work.  8)
