Linux Specific Issues / Re: lol No Textures
« on: February 22, 2007, 01:36:53 am »
Both Omega and DNA have released new drivers for ATI cards aswell. I use the Omega drivers because of the interface and adjustability.
I use linux for the interface and adjustability. (linux doesn't have omega drivers)
any more ideas?
I would like to be able to play this game...

I'm not using the ATI drivers, I'm using the open souce drivers in X.org and I'm up to date there (also I can't and won't use the ATI drivers for practical and moral reasons). Can anyone tell me what specifically planeshift needs that other games don't?

Ya it handles openGL alright, as I've said I don't have issues with any other games or apps

As far as I know anyway, I just use whatever's in the ubuntu repos. Do I need to use bleeding edge drivers or is there anything specific planeshift requires?

Installed PlaneShift today and apart from the fiddly installer everything went fine, except ingame nothing is textured. All the people, buildings etc. are flat colours (I'd attach screenshot but it's pretty unimpressive).  I also have a whole pile of tasty error messages if they're required. Also this isn't a system thing, other games work fine (warsow, armagetron, tuxkart etc.) I've tried this a few times and restarted and so on and problem persists.
spec is:
(K)ubuntu 6.10
Ati 9800pro (radeon driver)
athlon xp 2200
Gig ram, few hundred gigs of HD space
