Ok, it's not just Linux.  The server just crashed and when I came back (in Windows) it did this again.

This is how I set up my card, a Broadcom BCM43xx (maybe 48xx i forget), it was the "AirForce One 54g" chipset, and it works great.  This does NOT USE NDISWRAPPER, it uses the native Linux driver for the card, you just have to extract the firmware out of a "real" driver to enable the Linux driver to work.

I have an ATi Radeon X1600Pro AGP 512MB card in my computer (AMD AthlonXP 2600+, 1.5GB RAM).  I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) with the proprietary "fglrx" drivers (the "ati" one and "radeon" one doesn't work on X1000 series).  The game plays, but there is a glitch with either the game or the drivers that makes crates, carts, and many other map object models appear transparent, and often shows the skybox through them.
