(ooc: If you can not recognize roleplaying when you see it then you probably need a few lessons. Here are a couple of tips to help you recognize when someone is roleplaying:

1:  Usually, but not always, when someone is roleplaying, they use a dialect (other form of speach) to communicate to others in the game.

ie:
ya/ye = you
tanks = thanks
da = the
etc....

these are forms of accents used

2:  roleplaying means your playing a personna other than yourself. Henceforth a character roleplaying would say something like:

\"And by da way, tanks fer da extra hexas i got while ya was messin arround wit dat apperatin.\"

instead of

\"and by the way, thank you for the extra money i recieved while you were fighting with the illusion.\"

By doing this, you give your character some character, creating a person who is interesting and has a life of its own.  Most people I have come accross that roleplay, do it to escape their dreary, mundane lives and want to play a character that they can not express in r/l.

This game is in a fantasy setting, not a sci-fi setting or a real life setting, therefore the characters here will have a tendency to use different dialects (aspects of language) and have differenct characteristics than people and characters in non-fantasy rpg\'s.

This conclude todays lesson in roleplaying. if you have any further questions please pm me as most people on these boards already know how to roleplay and don\'t need lessons.

looking forward to hearing from you)

( OOC: Although i appreciate your attempt at roleplaying, i think you should look again at the post. Never at any time does Zaylik say that he has entered your dwelling. and i would really like to know how you are going to cut the flesh of an apparation...ie..illusion.)

Iffin yer gonna be swingin yer sword around like dat when der aint notin der, then i think ya should make sure that yer family is gone fer da day as ya play wit yer sword. I would sure hate ta see em get hurt by yer blind, misunderstood rage. And by da way, tanks fer da extra hexas i got while ya was messin arround wit dat apperatin.

You obviously didn\'t read the original posting or you missed the whole point of what I said. I\'m not saying you should get kicked for pking... I said you should get kicked for not roleplaying while you do it.

It seems to me that the people who are opposed to this are the same people who want to go out an kill people for no reason and turn this game into every other rpg that allows pking. REMEMBER - This is an RPG. That means it\'s a roleplaying game...that means you have to use your imagination...and that means all the time that you are in the game.

It\'s called staying in character!

Looking forward to your input!

General Discussion / non RPG PK\'s.... What to do about them
« on: February 12, 2002, 06:59:56 am »
I\'ve been thinking about this subject quite a lot lately PKing vs. non-PKing. I believe that Pking should be allowed in the game along with some heavy fines. I understand that if you PK you become a criminal and everyone hunts you down.... this is a great idea.

I would like to add a little bit to it to help prevent against non RPG pking.

When a person takes the life of another player he becomes a criminal and is brought to justice...but what kind of justice?...they just die and come back to do the same thing they\'ve been doing?...How do they learn?

My suggestion is this....when a player takes the life of another player in a non-free-for-all zone, then before that character is allowed back in the game, after he/she is killed by other players or guards, then this character should be required to submit the reason for the PK to the moderators of the game before the character is allowed back in the game at their current ability and skill level. If the person can give a good role-playing reason why he, wanted to, or had to kill the other character, then I believe the character should be let back into the game without penalty.  If the character does not have a good role-playing reason for killing another player then that character should be deleted and the player forced to start over with a new character. (of course this should be done only after the player has recieved two or three warnings from the GM\'s for this same thing)

If the character is captured alive and brought before a tibunal (of some sort) then he/she should be given a chance to explain the reason for the PK with the same penalties applied.

I believe this will cut down on the amount of non Role playing pk\'s in the game as they will need a reason to intentionally kill another player, accidents happen and a player who accidently kill another, I believe, can have the option of turning himself/herself into the authorities for judgement.

I wont insult the moderaters of the game by trying to explain what the difference is between a roleplaying PK and a non-roleplaying pk...as they are obviously roleplayers and do know the difference.  And that topic should be on another thread. The ultimate decision to delete a character would be up to the GM\'s.

Note: I am not saying the account should be deleted...just the character and only for non-rp PK\'s and only after the character has been warned 2 or 3 times. I think this should be sufficent deterrent for non-role playing PK\'s.

Another Note: I also realise that there will not be enough GM\'s to handle this once the game gets a lot of people playing it..... in the history of government there are the inner and outer circles which are hereditary titles. (for the most part) I believe that you can use these positions for players instead of npc\'s and let them and those players who are under them make the decisions as to wether or not a character should be deleted (not the account). Kind of a \"jury of your peers\" type of thing.

I have no idea whether or not this is feasable in this type of game... but it is a suggestion!

Looking forward to your reply,

Torn between the hungry growling of my stomach and an overwhelming Demorian cuiosity and desire to investigate all things out of place, I quickly glance back at The Flaming Troll before my curiosity gets the better of me.

Drawing my father\'s Longblade, I silently approach the ox-cart from the rear and ever so gently slip under the loose portion of the tarpaulin. As my heart races with adrenaline, I quietly work my way between the barrels and lay as still and quiet as possible on an old ox-cart, ready for anything that might happen.

General Discussion / If you aren't serious....
« on: February 10, 2002, 05:51:12 pm »
Look Luci... if you aren\'t serious about roleplaying then you have no business in this RPG..... notice those three letters  RPG = Role Playing Game. If you want to start something with the Guardians of Destiny, then do it by roleplaying in the game. That doesn\'t mean come up to us and attack us for no reason...that will only get you killed. That mean wait until the proper time that a problem might or could arise between our guilds. To do this requires that a little backgroud be laid out as to why our guilds dislike each other. If you are not willing to do this, then you are a waste of our time and energy and will be, for the most part ignored!

We are looking forward to your input!

Slowly opening my eyes, I glance around the alley furtively making sure that I am alone. The explosive pain in my head making my sight a little blurry. Seeing no one around I open my violet eyes fully, waiting for the pain to subside and my eyesight to clear.

Pulling myself to my feet, I notice a water barrel at the end of the alley an stumble toward it on shakey legs. Looking into the cool water of the barrel, I notice a trickle of blood running through my dirty blond hair and over my pointed ears.

I dunk my head into the cool water to wash away the blood from my head running my slender, yet strong hands through my fine hair. As I look down the main road though this quiet village, I notice a farmer steering an ox-cart though the muddy street. Checking to make sure my father\'s Demorian longblade is still strapped to my side and loose in it\'s sheath, I call out to the farmer in the street.

\"Old man, what town be this?\"
