We just finished a grand tournament in the arena. We're working to hold more events, but it does take a lot of planning, even for GMs and Devs to pull off events well

 :sorcerer:

P.S. Keep checking, both in-game and on the forums for news of more tournaments

So my question is: not taking into account others accessing my comp, is the data exchange encoded in PS or anyone can catch passwords on the fly?

you would need a packet sniffer and you would need to decode the md5sum password, i dont think this would be too easy but i dont know much about it.

it's not just a simple md5 password that's sent over the wire.  while it would be possible to sniff the exchange, you'd pretty much have to be either right in the path (think compromised router), or have poisoned DNS so that packets get routed to you, and even then you'd also have to decode the password string

As for the Bread Pieces... Try to find something 'cooking-wise' to do with them... They're there for a reason.

We may be cruel and sadistic, but we don't usually put anything "dead-ended" in, unless it's going to be expanded very soon to be useful

I'm glad to see another team joining the contest. I would just like to remind you

2.1.2 Establishment of Teams

Teams are to be established at the beginning of the contest. The Idea here is that these cities are too large for one individual to create. Each team will consist of up to 6 people; exceptions can be made on a case by case basis for larger teams.  Teams need not be an established guild or organization. No member of any team may be designated WTB or higher within the PlaneShift dev team hierarchy. Each team must choose a name. The name of the team, a list of names, email addresses, and the selected city must be sent to the official e-mail address with the subject "city contest team". Examples of the names of teams the PlaneShift team might like to see are “Team Adraax”, “Team Dark Empire”, “Team Vaalnor” etc.

that e-mail address is planeshift.citycontest@gmail.com

Good Luck, and we look forward to seeing your work

General Discussion / Re: Wipe
« on: February 08, 2008, 11:33:45 pm »
I boted NO!

I have spent waaaay too much time getting to where I was.   :@#\
if a wipe happens, that means a lot of expended effort just went for naught!  >:(

now, if there were signs of rampant cheating, then a database purge of those committing
the most cheating would be more effective, would it not?

why punish everyone for the actions of a few?

I've spent a good amount of time recently fixing exploitable quests - Some of these there's no way to figure out who exploited it unless we catch them in the act, and even then it's very hard to prove.
- personally I wish more players were honest, and reported an exploit when they found it, rather than keeping it to themselves, and using it

Please, for those of you who say "no Wipe"... Why not, and for those who say "Wipe"... Why?

as a possibility: what would people think of having, say, the last 10 lines of NPC chat auto-load into the npc window when you first log in?

that way you still see the last few things that were said, so you know where you are in a quest if either you or the server goes down, but you don't have "ancient memories"

Complaint Department / Re: Quests timeout
« on: February 04, 2008, 07:13:52 am »
What's the reason for increasing timeout, when NPCs are able to give a quest?
From one side, it's a little logic, but from other side, the first two letters from MMORPG is becoming void...
As long as we have most quest one-timed, we dont think there is much need to have this timeout so long, or maybe not at all.

Hassadria and Miaua

It's mostly about realism. some of the simple quests have very short timeouts... for example, Harnquist could very well get hungry very quickly again after eating - after all, working at a forge is hard work.

however some quests fall more under the "Story-Line" category, and don't necessarily make sense if they get offered to 2, 3, or 8 people within a very short time. You wouldn't for example, if hypothetically, Jirosh had a special order for Jayose, that is going to be a rarer event, and you wouldn't have 2, 3, or 8 people carrying the same special order at the same time.

sometimes it's also that we don't want players to be mobbing an NPC...  There are many factors that go into determining the quest lockout time, and everybody that edits a quest before it goes in-game also double checks the lockout times to make sure that they make sense.

I hope this puts the quest-lockout timer into a bit better perspective

Xillix, I'd say the team consists of Zweitholou, Rast, Scorpio, Ramzes, Jyoshka(?) and I, yes?

Baldur, once you've finalized your team - just drop us an e-mail at PlaneShift.CityContest@gmail.com

This idea has been bounced around in various incarnations for quite some time behind the scenes.

I will respectfully disagree with the in-game loading of another character's logs. While you might have the logs, and have easy access to them - That is strictly OOC, and I don't believe that that has a place being shown in-game.

On the other hand, your current character would know what was said to him/her/kra, and what he/she/kra said. so the idea has a lot of merit.

It might necessitate a change in how log-files are done, but that is probably doable

Thank you for your input.

P.S. I'd like to hear anybody else's thoughts on the matter

The Hydlaa Plaza / Re: Materis

The entire PlaneShift team mourns with Materis' family and friends for their loss, and with the entire community for the loss of a fellow player, guildmate, and friend.

As a tribute of the respect that was held for Materis by the entire community we will be collecting all of the responses to this thread, and sending them to Materis's Family. We would encourage anybody who knew Materis, either in-game, or in life, to share a story of his all too short stay here with us.

Thank You
