Thanks for the reply.
Permission can easily be changed, but "./pssetup" is running.
Other have same problem, seems to be related o the release :(

I downloaded from PS Homepage/Account/Download/"Linux", "Check this forum thread....."

http://www.planeshift.it/download.html

Other try to compile by them self, but I'am to lazy and low experienced with compiling, even if there is  good instruction like here:
http://planeshift.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/compiling.html

Linux Specific Issues / Release .019 libcal.so.12 problem
« on: July 10, 2007, 10:54:33 am »
Hello, I downloaded the Release .019 and installation was successful. At least no error message came up.  :)
Also the ./pssetup is running well, except a waring message as following:
-------------------------------------------
/opt/PlaneShift$ ./pssetup
chmod: Beim Setzen der Zugriffsrechte für „pss“: Operation not permitted
WARNING: could not load plugin 'crystalspace.documentsystem.multiplexer'
Mounting skin: /planeshift/art/apps.zip
Skipping 'YesNo' because it's already loaded

planeshift.setup.application:
  Application initialized successfully.  [clicked ok]
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
-------------------------------------------
With sudo in front following message is comming up:
=== ===============
sudo ./pssetup
Password:
WARNING: could not load plugin 'crystalspace.documentsystem.multiplexer'
Mounting skin: /planeshift/art/apps.zip
Skipping 'YesNo' because it's already loaded

planeshift.setup.application:
  Application initialized successfully. [clicked ok]
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
==================

But real problem seems to be the "./psclient".
I receive error massage regarding "libcal.so.12" which i couldn't find until now.
-------------------------------------------
./psclient
chmod: Beim Setzen der Zugriffsrechte für „psc“: Operation not permitted
./psc: error while loading shared libraries: libcal3d.so.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[user]:/opt/PlaneShift$
-------------------------------------------
or with sudo:
==================
sudo ./psclient./psc: error while loading shared libraries: libcal3d.so.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[user]:/opt/PlaneShift$
==================

I install PS in /opt/PlaneShift.

Can anyone help me out?
Thanks in forehand.

Thank you for your quick reply and sorry for my late answer, Induane.

First I tried to install some of the 32 bit libs --> but no success.
Than I tied out different Ubuntu distributions, because I'am experiemntalize with Ubuntu (Ubuntu users may forgive me).
Finally I installed Ubuntu 7.0.4 i386 (32bit) Version, as proposed on the Ubuntu download page with a small performance lost, and had no problems with the installation of PS and also my Nvidia-card is running well.

Even with your proposed installer I couldn't run the installation under 64bit version, and for compiling I was shocked by the long but very detail discription.

But one more question please, I read many times, that the PS-Updater should not be used for Linux.
Does it mean never use, always make Uninstall and Install new version?

To srm
I read in the articals and installation manual that basically a "chmod +x ..." should do it, but also "chmod 755 ..." was mentioned. basically there should be no difference for exicution, or?

Linux Specific Issues / Installation: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
« on: June 20, 2007, 09:56:37 pm »
Hello all,

I'am very new in PS and very interested to get into it.  :)
But I already get stuck in by installing PS under Ubuntu 7.0.4.  :'(

I downloaded the installer from the PS homepage and made it executable in several ways, but when I use to run the installer, following message is coming:

   sudo sh PlaneShift_CBV0.3.018.bin
   Password:
   PlaneShift_CBV0.3.018.bin: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected

or nothing happen like below:

   sudo ./PlaneShift_CBV0.3.018.bin
   Password:
   planeshift$

I checked md5sum is checked and it's ok.
I also found 3 or 4 topics in the Linux forums, but all hints or suggests didn't helped me for the installation.

Has anyone an idea how to solve this problem?
Thanks for any help in forehand.
