Linux Specific Issues / Re: Why Ubuntu?
« on: September 15, 2007, 10:00:47 am »
I've been running Ubuntu for well over a year now and I have no complaints it.

It was the first debian based distro I tried. I had previously used Slackware 2.1, Redhat 7.3 through to 9 , Mandrake 10.1 and Fedora 4 and 5, but Ubuntu surprised me with it's live CD function and various other features that I had not seen previously in linux.

It installed with ease and it worked first time which amazed me, and I've never had any real issues with it. I can't say I've seen a more user friendly distro in my experience. Even my wife who's ... er... average with computers had no problems adapting to it's ease of use. I've stuck with it ever since.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Processor Type

Good 'ol standard P4 (541) 3.2ghz
1gb ram, Nvidia 7300GT and Ubuntu Feisty x86.

Seems to run fine, except it's laggy in hydlaa plaza and 'hiccups' in the BD.

Hi,

It seems with the 0.3.019 build, I can't give Finara her sack for the aforementioned quest. I get the following error in red:

'Trading containers is not yet implemented'

as such the quest cannot be completed.

(i've completed this quest previously in 0.3.018)

Is this a known issue? I cannot find any references to it in the forums or the bugtracker.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: New 019 client segfaults.

I've just checked and they both have the MD5 checksum.

1d690e434480bd902046001159f1a4b0        PlaneShift_CBV0.3.019-x86.bin

The IP address location I only downloaded 2 hours ago. Can you point me toward the fixed version?

Thanks.

Mawdryn,

I had the same md5sum that you had, on my bad copies. My good copy has the following md5sum (which matches what Xordan just posted moments ago):

818bc531fde25429b1561e2ed535c37f

I downloaded it a half hour ago from Mirror 1:
http://download.xordan.com/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.019-x86.bin

Good luck my friend!

I have dowloaded the client linked above, and now the client runs  \\o//
Thank you all for your help

I just want to clarify, that although they have the same MD5, they appear to be both different files, however neither work

261808074 2007-06-23 19:28 PlaneShift_CBV0.3.018.bin (from download.xordan.com)
273980148 2007-07-11 22:53 PlaneShift_CBV0.3.019-x86_1.bin (from 65.98.59.66)

Edit: I'm blind... I looked at the wrong files :(
The two 019's are identical in size

Hi,

I also thought it may be something like that, however I have already downloaded two copies.

http://download.xordan.com/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.019-x86.bin

and also from

http://65.98.59.66/~xordan9/download/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.019-x86.bin

Would it be right for me to say these are probably the one and same location?

Linux Specific Issues / New 019 client segfaults.
« on: July 11, 2007, 03:21:43 pm »
I am unable to run the new 019 32bit PS Client.

Initially when I installed it, I was getting the missing libcal3d.so.12 message, so I ran the fixlibs.sh script, which fixed that issue.

Now when attempting to run the client on my Ubuntu Feisty (2.6.20-15-generic) system, I can get as far as selecting my character and then the game segfaults when attempting to load the first map.

This is the output when running it from terminal (with sudo)

Code: [Select]

Linux Specific Issues / Odd graphic anomolies
« on: June 27, 2007, 07:12:46 pm »
This is my first post, so hello to all.  :D
I'm loving PS btw.  \\o//

There's been a few similar posts to this seemingly targeted at ATI users, however I am using an nVidia and experiencing 3 distinct quirks with the graphics. It doesn't cause any real playability issues, but I thought I'd report them anyway.

1) Interesting kaleidescope effect with the sky (only the sky) from time to time, primarily in the Hydlaa Plaza, the roads past the gates at Hydlaa and the courtyard in front of the arena . (2nd screenshot from 'http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26979.0' is pretty close.)
2) Certain objects appearing as a translucent blue, almost a mirror effect from the sky. Most notably, crates, barrels, etc.
3) Black and white 'Crash Test Dummy' textures (UV placeholders?) displayed in some areas, mainly shrubs and large boulders/rock walls.

All 3 points are intermittent. If I cross to another map and then come back, well.... the coin gets flipped.  :-\

Current specs:
Hardware:
Intel P4 3.2, 1GB Ram, nVidia 7300 GT 256MB DDR2
etc, etc.

Software:
PS CB (0.3.018) Binary package.
Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 (Kernel 2.6.20-15-generic) 32bit
Video driver: latest binary drivers from nVidia  (100.14.09-1)

I can post some screenshots if required.

Any thoughts?
