The fact is you can't "pay" your way in. It's meant for rich and famous people. Characters with a name. That's why getting into the winch is hard.

Yes, I also get bored as hell doing those quests but I don't see they really hurt RP. It's an area for the highest people in Yliakum, so that's why it's closed for "average" characters.

Just imagine asking IRL if there's another way to join the Bilderberg Group without fame, influence or money :p

General Discussion / Re: RP and how if AFFECTS OUR LIVES

The key word in your post is game.

This is a game, it's not real. Every emotion ends when the immersion does. If it makes its way to your real life, it's time to quit.

The Hydlaa Plaza / I want to be a noob again :(
« on: May 02, 2011, 12:25:37 pm »
We all hate newbies, don't feel bad if you do, we all do, noobs are meant to be hated and pwnd. It's in their essence, and only experience changes that. But, think about it, didn't you have fun when you were a noob?

You open PS, it crashes. You open it again, it crashes again. DAAAAMN YOU PSCLIENT!!! You get in to the forums, you get the typical:
"Have you reset your computer? Updated your drivers? Yeah, Intel/ATI/whatever sucks (but NVIDIA doesn't)...."

You get sick of it and go to do something else. You try to run the client some hours after your last attempt. IT RUNS SMOOTH. You start to think you are an idiot, or devs are trolling you.

Time to create your character. You choose the Dermorian. Your goal is to be Legolas. Your father was a very well known alchemist, your mother worked in a library. It's done \o/

You get in the game. You start wandering around asking where you are. Someone tells you to go to kill rats and leads you to the sewers. You start your rat killing with a pair of SS that awesome guy gave you. You stand in front of another elf. It doesn't look like a rat, rats aren't that tall. You hover your mouse on the 3D model, blue letters say "Relliom". It can't be that dangerous right?

You wake up in the Death Realm. Time to wait for someone to guide you out there. You are lucky, someone has decided to die and you get out of there. You find out about mining, you have no mining skills and you can't carry any ores because Dermorians have low strength.

- But I'm an awesome alchemist!!
- It's not implemented yet!
- But... it will be soon right? :'(
- Well yeah, 3 years and they still haven't got it.
- FUUUUUUUUUU.

You go to create another strong, miner character. Kran with father miner! But then someone tells you about RP.

- What the f* is RP?
- RP is what this game is about, read the info about your race.

"Kran are stupid by nature" → Taken from the official documentation.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUU again. What other character can I create? Strong, cool and good miner?

Enkidukai whose father was a miner \o/

Then you get the settings right, and you take the next step. FIGHTING. You kill one of the Tefusang near Ojaveda and you feel strong enough to challenge some random guy when you are level 20 in Swords. He kills you in one hit:

- What the Talad? How did you do that?
- Level 100 in Swords, 300Q SS.
- :o

At least you now know how to get out of the DR. You want to max your stats. They tell you about the winch.

- I've been playing for 2 months and NOW I found out there's a secret place called the winch?
- It's not that secret, the NPCs talk about it in the quests, don't you read them?
- Yeah, they also talk about Alchemy.

So you get to the winch, max your stats and swords, time to go for magic.

- Is it always so boring and expensive?
- Yep, I'm level 199 though, there was a bug in red way some time ago.
- :o
- Yep, and there was this quest bugged that gave you loads of gold, and this bug to duplicate items...

You curse your luck (why haven't I started playing before?) and you remember that moment forever.

Some time after that, someone walks up and asks you where he is. You take him to the sewers, teach him to fight, tell him you got Q300 SS and that back when you played:

- NPCs were always impervious to attack.
- There was no platinum, and when it started, people raced to get level 50 in metallurgy.
- The best place to find people was in Levrus' gold mine.
- There was a time when platinum was very easy to get, and iron and coal (specially this last one) were a pain in your butt.
- There was this sack bug that allowed you to get infinite ores.
- Chain mail armor was the reward for some quests, and you could only get the torso and the arms.
- You could kill Dlayos because they didn't fight back.

DAMN I'M A PRO!!! You feel the game isn't as interesting now.

So this is a serious request for the devs, please, remake the whole game, make us feel noobs again.

Makes sense, but you wanted it to feel real to get inspired, real things are not set up so it was just my opinion.

Good luck :)

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: How to get started
« on: May 02, 2011, 02:09:35 am »
To roleplay: Come up with a character background, as simple as possible (the almighty heroes whose parents were killed are quite common) and hang out in the tavern or wherever you find people and start roleplaying!

Game mechanics: Find someone to point you to the mines (in a rp way) and to teach how to train mining and what to do. Then you can rp and level up at the same time.

Good luck!

Isn't it way better to find a good character in a casual and "accidental" RP rather than setting it up?

The best way to roleplay being excited about meeting some character is actually being surprised in real life. You have a female character, it shouldn't be really hard to find some strong/chaotic/evil males out there! And what does the RL pic have to do with the RP?? Feel free to post it in the "Faces behind the players" thread anyway :)

Until it gets implemented and you see rats hate you because you have "Rats: -50" faction, it shouldn't be a problem.

Guilds Forum / Enkidukai Guilds
« on: April 25, 2011, 02:41:18 pm »
I have been considering joining an Enkidukai guild with my character Tyren. I've been seeking around and it seems most of Enkidukai guilds focus way too much in fighting. Although my character will get high levels in combat skills (it's a must in this game), I won't roleplay a fighter, even if my character is aggressive. Enkidukai packs need lots of different types of people, not just fighters.

So, any Enkidukai's guild not centered in fighting skills or in being the awesome Enkidukais-are-the-best-race-ever guild?

Wish list / Re: A solution we all want.
« on: August 15, 2010, 10:55:45 pm »
Making the game harder for oldbies will make it a lot harder for newbies. I have been told there are levels like 190+ in red way because there was once a bug (or something like that). The final solution isn't making monsters harder to kill, but expanding the maps and making more powerful creatures there. I know it will require some time, but it's impossible to start the game just killing rats when others (like me) had the option of killing 6 PP rogues with very good loot in Ojaveda not so long ago.

I seriously need to say this: Grow up people, the situation is not THAT dramatic. Illysia, if I were you, I wouldn't leave, unless you have better things to do, but PS is still a roleplaying game and we need people like you showing it.

14
I wrote this post a year ago mainly blaming players and the "love" they had for their characters and how the oldbies were really closed to roleplay with newbies. Lately it seems to be the other way around, people blaming game mechanics and developers.

Maybe you haven't realized it, or maybe I'm wrong, but I have seen lots of posts complaining against developers and they don't get removed. When I left this game, every post you wrote against them was deleted in seconds/minutes. As I said, maybe I am mistaken, but I think the situation changed since now they are reading our posts, replying and listening to players, and now I see more complains than ever. Which won't happen in the vast majority of games nowadays.

I am not saying devs are doing (or will do) something about it, but listening is a first step.
