In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: The Trial of Lanfor

Or is the storyline fixed so that GMs will interfere OOC wise once things get out of hand like in certain other events?
A valid question, no reason to bash anyone about outering such.

The problem with that question is we are being publically accused of something we did not do and if we are going to do it again. As have been said by myself and others the players decided the direction of events. The outcome of the of the trial was not fixed. The jury was made up of players and not gm. They had a good discussion about which way to vote. If they had decided not guilty we would have gone with it.

Why not let the event progress dynamically instead according to a fixed schedule?

You must mean like what actually happened. In that event at the initial meeting with Jinil the players did decide what was happening. Many players had witnessed what happened to Morsh in part 1. The search party had been told that Jinil would not come in alive and expected to have to kill him. They suggested lying to Edeli. They suggested taking blood stained armour and Jinil's sword back as proof of his death. That is not going by a fixed schedule. Enough planning had gone into this we could go with what the players chose and in this case they chose to let Jinil live.

With this series the players have been great. I would like to thank the you all for helping make this happen.

Akkaido I am utc+10.  20:00 utc Thursday is 6am Friday for me.

As for what dst does to your utc offset you will have to work that one out yourself. I live in the land of no dst.  \\o//

Linux Specific Issues / Re: GM GUI Client crash!!
« on: March 23, 2009, 11:21:49 pm »
Had a look at svn data/gui for stable and ok it is there. I forgot about updating data/gui from svn :(

Which has me wondering if Debci did the same thing of data/ from the download and keeping the download data/gui instead of using that part from svn.

Stable data/gui/gmguiwindow.xml does not contain support for a new gm flag that was recently added. I added the following just after where givekillexp is defined for that window.

Code: [Select]
<widget name="attackable" factory="pawsTextBox" visible="no" tooltip="set attackable">
                    <frame x="30" y="284" width="160" height="20" border="no" />
    <font name="/planeshift/data/ttf/LiberationSans-Regular.ttf" r="255" g="255" b="255" size="10" />
                    <text string="Attackable" />
                </widget>
                <widget name="toggleAttackable" factory="pawsCheckBox" id="1268" visible="no">
                    <frame x="200" y ="284" width="100" height="20" border="no"/>
                    <text string="disabled" />
                </widget>

I found stable revision 2950 was the last that worked without this.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Alsa

Many applications that use alsa drivers are able to share the sound output, planeshift appears not to be one. Has anyone else noticed this?

I have noticed. I use aoss to launch psclient so other programs can still use sound.

Development Team Blog / Re: Speed Hacks
« on: February 09, 2009, 11:45:19 am »
Have just spent a couple of hours running around NPCroom and NPCroom3. Was not having a problem with getting flagged. Except for a small incident involving a speed hack just after the initial testing mentioned earlier I have not had trouble running around.

Today I was kicked today using the AL on Smith's door which I had modified to teleport me to Fighter2. Would get flagged if moved straight away after the AL moved me.

My client and server are on separate machines. Had a player connect and he had to try hard to get get flagged. Eventually was kicked using the same AL I was playing with. I connected to his machine which has client/server on the same machine. If his client was running I was kicked very quickly. If only his server was running I could run around with no problems.

In-Game Roleplay Events / [EVENT] Octarch's Festival
« on: September 13, 2008, 01:09:18 pm »
[ Town criers visit all cities on the first level to make the following known to the citizens of Yliakum ]

Hear ye! Hear ye!

The annual Octarchal Festival shall take place in Hydlaa, the capital! [TONIGHT! (at 22:00 GMT)]

As you all well know, the festival was conceived with a threefold purpose. There shall be a tournament to unite all the brave warriors; there shall be a market to unite all the diligent merchants and workers! And finally there shall be entertainment and beer for all the good townfolk!

Sign up now for the tournament! The prize is the Champions Sword, the prize of the Octarch!

At the end of the duels, the final fight will take place against last year's champion, the current bearer of the Champions Sword.

This year we will be introducing the Golden Mug Award for excellent salesmanship. It will be presented to the most successful merchant. There are a number of stalls built and awaiting for merchants to fill them and compete for this vaunted prize!

Come to Hydlaa and take part in the GREAT Octarchal Festival!

[
Rules for the tournament:

  • The Tournament will be a single round elimination contest where the winner advances to another duel. Both participants of the duel start with full health (no potions, no magic, no long distance healing), and will fight till defeat.
  • If a player is not present for their match this is considered an automatic forfeiture on the part of the absent player. If at that time a spectator wishes to take the place of the non showing player they may do so, and the round continues. If there are none who wish to take their place, the present participant shall be named victor of that round.
  • Any contestant who lands a fatal blow shall be disqualified from this tournament.
  • There shall be no magic or items used during the duel. It is to be a battle of strength and skill.
  • There shall be as many duels going as we have referees for. The referee shall watch from close by to keep an eye on their contenders and report to the judge the result.
  • At the completion of one duel another one shall start, until upon completion we have a Champion.
  • Referee will group with the two players before start of duel, so the referee can monitor the stats of the players. This is to rule out cheating and to confirm the winner to /tell the findings to the GM who will shout the winner to the audience.
]

[We planned this for after the long downtime, which left us with little preparation time. Sorry for announcing it that short time in advance. To reach as many people as possible in this time it is posted in General Discussion, after the event the post will be moved to the according forum. We hope for a lot of participation!  :sorcerer: ~Kerol ]

When heading to hydlaa from ojaroad1 walk instead of running and jumping over the hump just as you leave ojaroad1. If you run and jump you won't like the results. If you walk over that hump you are safe.

I would like to add "atm machine" and "pin number" to the list of annoyances.

Happy birthday Rizin.

May you still be here next birthday. The game would not be the game without you.   \\o//

I'll put my hand up as another that will only go near bd with -fullbright. The map is too jerky otherwise.

Avoid to use weakness spell. It backfires the way you explained.

Weakness is the main spell I use. Wait for the effects of weakness to finish before you cast it again. The problem only happens when you try stacking weakness.
