PlaneShift Mods / Re: Help finding Text size file?
« on: October 20, 2011, 04:02:03 pm »
If you can't find it in "%APPDATA%\PlaneShift\planeshift.cfg", you could add it (but search for it to avoid double entries, this file is not sorted alphabetically).

I've been triple checking myself, scrolling through it manually, then I use the 'Find' option in WordPad with different words, and I still come up with nothing.
I tried adding the line, nothing.  Retitled and added it, still nothing.

I don't know why this one thing has become impossible for me!
So you are using Win?  It doesn't make sense why mine would be so different (I'm Win Vista x64, but still).

Oh well, I appreciate all the help.
I'll have to come up with another solution I guess.

1) For that screenshot, Scale Mode actually made the text slightly smaller than default mode.  If I widen the chat window though, it does scale larger.

2) What operating system are you using?
  • Windows: Open the address "%APPDATA%\PlaneShift" in your Windows Explorer or "Run..." dialog.

Aha, thanks!
I knew I had to be missing these file locations, but I didn't see them last time I hunted/queried.  :-[

Yet, this file has the same options as others ".ScaleFont = true"
I can't seem to find a line with the starting font size, or a scale percent value I can change.

No luck.  I give up for now.
I hope we can find a solution, because I can't game like this.

And yes, I know I'm using a large widescreen size/aspect that I'd prefer not to reduce.

Right-click the chat window, check "Scale font" to enable font scaling for the chat window at all.

There is a file 'planeshift.cfg' with an entry 'Font.ScalePercent', but it is in your user account's application data folder.

I see the data folder, but not the .cfg you mention.
There are many .cfg here with instructions on scale if I was using an alternate font, but I can't seem to find the one with the line I need to adjust the current font.    :(

There is one folder named PlaneShift>Data>Config>fontplex but that didn't seem...hmm I will keep looking.

Can someone give me some tips on how to mod the text size larger?
I'm really having trouble reading the chat window.
At the moment I go back and forth between max/min my chat window just to see around it.
I see a lot of skin mods here, but nothing dealing specifically with text size.
Help!

~~

I'm hoping there is just some value/percent in a .cfg or .ini file somewhere.
(I understand there is an increase by windowsize option in game that would change how this is normally written.)
After browsing through all 3 .cfg files though, I've given myself a headache.

General Discussion / Re: Surnames
« on: August 24, 2007, 07:48:20 pm »
Hi, I'm a fairly new user and had issues with the last names once they were established.

I posted my complaint under the Complaint forum, but was told since there had been a discussion already brought up in the General Forum I should've posted here instead.

For the sake of not having to repeat everything said in the forums, if you had difficulties with last names being in use or issues with established names, here is a link to that info:

I'm sorry I'm not sure if the link will show properly on this post.

Thanks for the link.  I had checked the complaint forum and the wish forum thoroughly, but seeing that I was trying to bring my complaint under proper attention, I posted here than inside the general forum.

Thanks for bringing up the extra info though.

P.S. the complaint being last names already in use (not about discussing having one in general).

*edit*

Also, let me mention my complaint was to represent all newcomers...if you've already been here you may not have had any trouble coming up with a last name at all.

Yet, I suspect it would be harder over time for newcomers to find meaningful names not already snatched up by older users (or even variations of some names).

Of course, I guess they could just start allowing people to use names like "sw33t ch33ks" to help the naming issue.

Hehe, good caution Jeraphon...but I doubt the developers would give players the power to deny some members similar names and not others.

Besides, similar last names doesn't even mean your related! (but wow, wouldn't it be great if the game could do that for you--the game could auto clan you? Of course, I prefer making the connections myself...it's part of my own RPG experience...)

And don't worry Jeraphon: if someone had really wanted to be related to an NPC, don't you think they'd have just made up a blood relation to an NPC right now?

Thank you!  I am so glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought this a feature that could/should be changed.

I'm glad to hear someone at least considered working on it.  Amongst a small group of players, one might not foresee naming an issue.  But when you have 25K players...it's just unrealistic.  Sadly, few games consider names important, fewer still explore how enriching they make the gaming experience.

Yet, I can see the argument for having a unique, creative player name.  But seeing all these unique names...hard to think we've been in the land of Yliakum for 700 years.

Yes, I've been playing barely a week.  Yes, I've read the forums.

This is a very nice game.  I just have one issue that's been continually bugging me--character names.

I realize creating a program that allows characters to have the same last name (yet still check to make sure first and last name aren't already in use) may be time consuming, but forcing 25,000 players to try name after name for that one name not in use....yeah, I think its worth it.

It reminds me how unrealistic the game is.  Last names were created for a purpose...they have a meaning, they relate you to some person, some place, some characteristic, some family, yet still distinguish you.  Telling 25,000 to make up a fake name (because a reasonable one is already in use) makes the game seem....lacking.
