I like to use dakkru similar to how davey jones is used in pirate lore.

'I'll send you straight to dakkru'

I would assume for the bodily references tamed animals would be more apt. we dont say 'lion @$T$!' or 'killer swarm of bees!'

we say 'bull #$^#' and references to other obscene topics. So I think the key to finding PS suitable swear words would be discovering what is considered obscene.

perhaps general things assosciated with unpleasantness. goujah are the gross smelly pack animals right?

'we need to crawl through the sewers' 'oh thats goujah!' midway crawling through 'this place is so goujah'.

the biggest obstacle is that the unpleasantries are a very ill defined area by settings (not trying to crap you guys, its just people are more interested in laanx then goujah) and as players we dont want to deviate from the canon, so we're left with little material to base our linguistics off.

'normal' people.

IE; Agnostic?

I believe agnostic would fit well in the planeshift world. Believing in the presence of god/gods, but not subscribing to any particular religion.

i was thinking before, that having player jobs, that might not involve you saving the world like im sure we all love to do, but bring you steady tria and give you an in game foundation for your characters character would be awesome. i would not mind sitting in kada-els for a while bringing drinks to people who give me some coin for it (hmm, i could do this anyway, doesnt really need mechanics...but there is broader ideas, such as guards, civil servants (not necassarily vigesimi or octarchs) estate agents, player trainers, its really an endless list)

im going to make an example, examples always help me think about things.

in our world, a guy goes to trade school, and studies to become an electrician, he then joins a company and works for them, then, after a few years, when he is a very good electrician and has built up some capital, he starts his own electricians business

the same could work for smiths, an npc 'boss' provides you with steel and  a quota of swords he wants, you pump them out and get paid a fraction of their sale price. not as lucrative as mining the steel yourself and selling it yourself, but its steady income, and a great source of experience, before you get enough capital to buy your own steel and start selling it freelance.

i love the smithing mechanics in game, i think they are very well thought out, but i cant stand mining for iron and i cant afford to buy it, my swords are too crap to cover the price of the steel. if i could get up to making ql 200 swords or something with steel provided by an NPC, barely making any cash but learning, i would stick with smithing and eventually make ql 300 stuff.

ive forgotten my point as it is 1:40 am, but i hope you can understand.

General Discussion / Re: Playing PlaneShift
« on: April 18, 2008, 05:24:29 pm »
i vote for player training, i know that planeshift is a 'classless' game. but people still specialise, and really, even though its not set, your a miner, a fighter, a mage, or you just rp or whatever. what you really want from these specializations is to make money, and advance yourself. whats to say a trainer cant charge for their services? they become a proffessional trainer. that adds another possible niche specialisation for us, and eventually after more mechanics are implemented, there is no such thing as niches, because there are many pheasible methods of developing your character both rp and mechanically.

clearly this is a pretty tricky problem, if it changes anything, ive noticed that it happens much more frequently in times of a high server load, is my getting disconnected connected to my ping time, which would be higher in a time of high load?

10
I have wireless internet, and that cant really be helped, my dad doesnt want cables through the hallways and the walls are concrete, so we cant network it. however, my connection is never an issue outside of planeshift. playing any game online, i never drop out, my ping is alright, perhaps maybe once a fortnight i will have a regular connection drop out, but for some reason when playing planeshift i need to repair my wireless connection at least once an hour, because it will stop working.

running windows XP service pack 2. some netgear wireless adapter card, bought it at the beginning of last year, dont know what model it is, using a netgear wireless router that i bought at the beginning of this year, uhm, anything else you guys may want to know?

11
is there anyway an individual patch can be released? im only like, one version behind the new one, but i cant play because i am behind one. my download limit is rather small, and as much as planeshift is cool, i cant justify using something like 25% of my limit in one hit, to get a 10mb change or whatever.

is there anyway that change from .19 to .20 can be downloaded as a patch style thingo?

In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: Yliakum Government
« on: August 31, 2007, 11:02:09 am »
mhm, that would be brilliant.

there would still be an in-game aspect, perhaps we could put minutes from the meetings up, and open discussion from there, and then work with the replies on the forum in the next in game meeting.

yup, as soon as it takes off i would love you to do that :P

P.S that other site looks good, nice work

Edit rather then add two replies in a row: with the law enforcement, it would be better to leave that up to gm's that are acting in character, because as players we have no more authority then another player, and we cant dictate their playing experience, we could however form a neighborhood watch sort of thing, who can scold people who do not follow the law, or even challenge them to a duel if it gets to such a level. (lol, i think you forfeit honour when you resort to stealing, so theres no reason for you to accept the duel, but awell. you can accept as a sign of good roleplay, acknowledging the face he could just jump you or whatever.)

avengers of blood would be pretty awesome, but considering we dont have families, perhaps we could run it off race. i kill an enkidukai, so another enki comes along and kills me, and they are exempt from punishment for that retaliation, if they seek the councils approval to take the mantle of an avenger of blood. who knows eh? talk to me here :D

Thankyou all for your ideas :P

if you want to run with me on something give me a tell in game and i can explain it in depth with you, once again im usually going by the name of Daeva.

as for timezones, it will likely be held on weekends, so we have to highest possibility of people being able to attend. (i will happily stay up till midnight, heck i do anyway)

changing the name from yliakum government would be a good move, im not sure on how most people will re-act to us using terms such as vigesimi and octarchs. but we could go along the lines of council of vigesimi, or something, lay your ideas down and we will talk it through.

and again, thanks for all your input, im looking forward to seeing this take off :P

In-Game Roleplay Events / Yliakum Government
« on: August 30, 2007, 02:28:15 pm »
[ooc] the yliakum government is forming, at the moment i am looking for a very small group of people to help me flesh out the finalities of the government, please note, this government will not hold any true power, its purely player run. however its purpose is for role play debates, in character disputes over certain issues (economy, dwarf discrimination, transportation crisis, stalactite warming.)

i am only looking for about five or so people, as the government is still in development, talk to me in-game, (Veir or Daeva) and ill asses your capability to contribute to this plan.

You can expect to see the first meetings in a month, as long as there is no major hiccups.

i want to stress again, this government is purely to inspire roleplay, people that attend the meetings can comment later on the discussions, members of the government can lose standing with people, dissent can arise and the people can take action against the offenders, or some members may represent everything your character wants and thus get praised as they walk through the streets, its up to you.

joining this government will not get you money, or power. i ask for only characters that have a strong political interest and a want to influence the community to join. (rp-wise once again)
