this comes under the heading of "requested change of password by parties unknown".

approximately 13 hours ago (0518 Arizona time) someone requested a change of password
on my account in the game. Since I did not request this, I am posting here per the advice of
underthemoon and XilliX.

2 questions:
1. has this happened to anyone else (could be someone harvesting e-mails using a script)
2. what additional security will be needed to prevent this?

as for point one, this seems a little off the beaten path, but then, e-mail address are MONEY
to the right people.

as for point 2, I have already changed my password in accordance with both the policy of the site and my own
(in order to prevent any unauthorized entry).

so? am I the only one to notice?

I request that the maintainers look at the logs to see who requested this change please.

thanks

General Discussion / Re: Wipe
« on: February 08, 2008, 10:26:06 pm »
I boted NO!

I have spent waaaay too much time getting to where I was.   :@#\
if a wipe happens, that means a lot of expended effort just went for naught!  >:(

now, if there were signs of rampant cheating, then a database purge of those committing
the most cheating would be more effective, would it not?

why punish everyone for the actions of a few?

Server Status / NPC's down 2 days? (client .3.20) (January 28, 2008)
« on: January 29, 2008, 04:08:25 am »
I haven't been seeing anything in the forums on this...
the NPC server appears to have gone on hiatus. the last 2 and 1/2 days has been nothing except sheer boredom.

so whats being done about it???

Caarrie is correct here.  I might call the 2nd one laanx_alternate or similar but its still a better solution than changing your hosts file. That way you can see both and if the alt is working and laanx main is not then you know its the dns problem, if both are failing then likely the server is down.

Changing your hosts file basically ensures future problems because once the server ip changes then it won't ever work again until you modify the host file manually.

Also I'm fining you 4000 trias for excessive smiley usage! ;)

considering that laanx.fragnetics.com is a fixed IP (assigned by fragnetics), I rather much doubt it will change for the foreseeable future (unless someone sets up multiple servers and has them all mirrored across the net for redundancy).

*edit*

i'm sorry, i did all the thing you wrote but the server still appear "failed".

config:
Toshiba satellite A200
Windows XP Pro sp2
Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300  (256 Mo)
Processor   Mobile DualCore Intel Pentium M, 1866 MHz (14 x 133)
Wireless connection

tell me exactly the information you need for help me

(i'm french, sorry if you don't understand my english...)

There are going to be times where the "server failed" message will appear that has nothing to do with DNS issues.
this temp fix was just to correct the DNS problems (of which there tseem to be a lot of cox.net services where I am)

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / server unreachable
« on: December 29, 2007, 11:32:34 am »
ok,
this is rather strange. during game play, I experienced a situation where all the npc's disappeared.
shortly after that, I logged out thinking I had lost connection.

then I could not log back in again. the status page that is usually the login for PSclient reports the
server is active and reachable, but attempting to login results in a 10 second wait and then a massege:
"the server is either not running or not reachable. please check the forums for further info".

looks like you guys had a rather unusual crash. server says its running, yet says it isn't.

General Discussion / levitation as ban-able offense
« on: December 12, 2007, 08:39:15 am »
There is a memo posted in my guild that using levitation (levitating) is a ban-able offence.

request clarification and details please.

ok, some (if not all) of you have noticed at times that the server (laanx.fragnetics.com)
appears to be unreachable by your client. mostly, this is due to either a server hiccup
(common) or DNS failure.(also common).

this post addresses the latter.  8)

firstly, you need to know the ip address for laanx.fragnetics.com (its 203.81.44.242)!

you add and entry to your hosts file (in windows its under /windows/system32 or /winnt/system32)
and in linux its /etc/hosts (you may have to search in windows as each version might put it in a place ither than listed).

the entry to add is:
203.81.44.242     laanx.fragnetics.com

once added, your machine should be able to find it without worrying about those pesky dns timeouts.  \\o// :sorcerer:  :woot:

Complaint Department / Re: crafting swords
« on: November 27, 2007, 10:32:29 am »
It makes no IC sense for a person who has never smithed before to be better at it than the person who teaches all the smiths in Hydlaa.

hmmmm
well, having worked in a forge IRL (the Chaos forge while it was still in Phoenix Arizona), I got rather proficient at making swords (if you call the crude, soft blades I made swords).. still, one has to take into account that making a good blade takes time, skill and practice (lots of practice).

also, as a member of the SCA (Society for Creative Anarchronisms), I am well versed it certain types of role play. this game is roleplay (not to its extreme).

one last note: have any of you ever bothered to watch those around you and how they act? An interesting learning experience that is.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Missing libs.
« on: October 13, 2007, 07:47:08 am »
ok,
had to do a clean install of the psclient (disk error caused loss of files).

upon installing (and updating) the current client (PlaneShift_CBV0.3.019-x64.bin)
in my Kubuntu system (Linux t95 2.6.20-16-lowlatency #2 SMP PREEMPT
Sun Sep 23 18:34:23 UTC 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux), I got the following missing library error:

./psc: error while loading shared libraries: libcal3d.so.12: cannot open shared object file:
No such file or directory.

There is a problem in that my current (and currently updated) system only goes to .11
of that file and no new updates for it are available currently.

can you get this corrected please?

nevermind, found and corrected the problem (helps to read more DUH!).

Server Status / Re: server shift suggestion
« on: September 28, 2007, 11:31:49 am »
The server has not been down for 5 days straight lately, and the only time it is down for more then a day is for major bug fixes or when there is a release

I realize this may rankle some feathers, but... shouldn't there be a seperate development machine to iron out all these wrinkles?
I know the devs [robably have a preference for the way theu are doing things now, but..
Operating on a live machine where real clients are involved tends to cause big problems (such as the current streak of server downtime
due to some software "breakages".

I am pefectly willing to donate funds towards purchasing a machine specifically for "development work" only.
this will allow the devs to iron out all the bugs and roll those updates into the currently running server with minimal downtime
(and less pressure on the devs from users complaining about the game being offline so often).

Please consider this as a serious suggestion (and not just another complaint). I really do like the game and service and
would like to see it continue to fuitful production as a completed product.

ok.
this is getting rather irritating..  >:(

everytime I try to create a new macro (shortcut) in the linux version of psclient
(latest update 3 days ago) the client crashes out completely with the result: (core dumped).

particulars of my system:
AMD AM2 Dual Core CPU
Biostar Motherboard
3 GB ddr2 ram
750 GB hd space

OS:
KUbuntu (code named Feisty_fawn) Linux:
kernel: 2.6.20-16-lowlatency #2 SMP PREEMPT Thu Aug 30 23:19:11 UTC 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux

psclient installed in personal home dir (not system wide).

*this is reproducable each time I have tried, after restart*

it would be nice to have this working as I don't want to be having to manually
take actions while in the middle of battle!

*edit*

followup...
ran on a command line (xterm) and got this output:

PSLoader: step 6: success
Did not find config key widget
Widget isn't a pawsConfigKeys
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
