I also have problems with collisions.  The 'out of bounds positional' messages flood me, effectively crippling my client.  (If I run into anything)

I also crash without message if anyone(thing) around me collides.  For instance, if mob's are functional, being anwhere near the arena or sewers is foolish.
My friends make bets on how long I can stay online when mob's are up.

Tested.  Me and another char went went out into the wild.  I stand still, or move in circles, while he runs up a steep hill, or into a tree, etc.  He collides, getting the 'positional' (or gets teleported) and I crash without message.
Every time.

This prob is new in 4.01.
Hope this post is useful in some way.

yep, I was getting a lot of those random system messages earlier.  While running, fighting, smelting, etc.
I wasn't getting them when I first installed v4, but after I ran the updater.
Out of curiosity, I re-installed v4 without the update, and was still getting a few odd messages.
So I ran the updater again, and got even more of the messages.

I haven't seen any of them in quite a while, though.  I do see a lot of "non-server message" in my error log.
Could be non-Laanx packets being interpreted as server messages, but who knows.

Just my 2 cents.

Just logged in and tried that.
I disabled every use of middleclick/scrollwheel i could find.
Middleclick still picks up full stacks.
Scrollwheel up/down still acts like a left-click (ie. how many do you want to pick up).  <--- This is the feature I would like to disable.

I think that the scroll wheel having two simultaneous 'actions' while in a scrollable pane is where the engine is sometimes getting confused.

Hmm.  Doesn't really look like it.  I'm not using mouserun, and clicking on buttons/windows doesn't change my run/walk status.
It just 'unpresses' any key I am holding down when i click on a window/button.

***EDIT
Autorun isn't affected.  Just keys that are being pressed.

Greetings everyone.

(Using Windows)
Sometimes when i middleclick or scrollwheel inside a popup window (with a scrollable pane) I get stuck in scroll mode.
Then, the scrollable pane in question scrolls up/down very quickly just by moving the mouse around.  Sometimes i cannot get out of this mode and must re-log.

Not sure if this is a feature, but i would like to disable the middle-click in the windows, as this seems to get me 'stuck' more than anything else.
Also, I would like to disable "grabbing' or 'selecting' items within popup windows by turning the scroll wheel.

Understand this is something I try not to do, so I haven't fully experimented with it.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?  Looked through the forums and bugtracker first.
Not a real big issue, just moderately annoying.

Greets.
Using Windows.

Every time I log in, my shortcut windows is all black (no buttons) and clicking where the buttons should be does nothing.
To fix this, I edit one of the buttons (edit window shows what it should) and simply click on 'done'.

Then my shortcut window shrinks to the size of one button, and that button is displayed properly.
Then I re-size the window.

Not a big deal, but i searched the forums/bugtracker(not the old one) and found nothing like it.
Any thoughts?  Is it just me?  Simple fix?

Thanks all,

Hello and greets.

Whenever I click on any of the HUD windows/buttons, any key I am holding down gets cancelled.
For example, if I am running by holding down the forward key, or turning using keys, and I click on one of the chat window tabs (or any window button), I stop moving/turning.
Then i must release/re-press the key.

Again, just a minor annoyance, not very important.
I DID search the forums and bugtracker(but not the old one).

Anybody have any thoughts on this?  Don't want to make an issue if there's a simple fix.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Re: lagging like hell
« on: December 05, 2007, 11:24:55 pm »
just a thought, go into (ingame) options, click on detail.
make sure your FPS cap is not low.  happens to me all the time.  i'm on win32 also.
should be set to 60 for most any laptop.

the game engine automatically reduces my FPS cap whenever there's a stutter, but doesn't seem to take loading time into account.
so every time i start PS, i have to resest the cap or the game engine lags, mouse doesn't work right, etc.

good luck.

General Discussion / Smith hammers all quality 1/50? Does it matter yet?
« on: November 14, 2007, 10:25:06 pm »
I was at the working at the anvil the other day, and suddenly began to ruin everything I touched.
Checking my hammer, I noticed that it was at 1/50.  So were the hammers being sold by Harnquist.
Another player verified that Oja wasn't faring any better.

So while it would be nice to be able to once again buy hammers at 50/50, I am really posting to ask the question, Does it matter?

My rock pick never wears out, so does the quality of a smith hammer affect the quality of the work?
Previous to this, I'm pretty sure my hammer stayed at 50/50.

---------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT!  Probem seems to be solved.  Between my CPU heatsink and fan was a major dust blockage.  CPU thermal warning was shut off in the bios (must've missed that setting after a battery change).

The added CPU load from all the players around me was overheating my uncooled processor, but when no one was around it must've been running cool enough.
My other games must simply be using more GPU than CPU.

I stayed in the plaza long enough to pound my steel into worthless chunks of twisted metal...  I think we can close this one.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Did not have this problem in v19.

I log in, grab my steel from the forge, and start pounding on the anvil.  Crash.
I log in, put my steel in the forge, and crash.
It doesn't matter if i'm using the equipment or not.  In either the plaza or Oja forge, psclient has about a 20 second life expectancy.
Doesn't matter if i'm working, standing, siutting, walking, running (and/or turning).

I can go into the wild or into the Laanx mines and stay logged in indefinitey as long as others aren't around.
If people(s) come down and mine next to me in the Laanx mines, no problem.  I can mine till i'm blue in the face.
If we (or they) start conversing, I crash.
I can be in the wilderness with others safely as long as no one is talking.

Trying to solve this problem, I have:
>repartitioned, formatted and re-installed windows 2000, this time with sp4.
>upgrded all drivers that i could.
>tried different resolutions
>tried using sound / no sound in PS.
>tried many different combos in the setup window, including skins.
>disabled my chat log
>disabled flashing tabs, all auto tab switching, and colored chat window names.
>re-enabled my chat log
>thourough scandisk.
>upgraded my cable internet speed.
>changed firewalls.
>rebuilt my networking components
>tried using my other NIC
>rebuilt my networking components
>re-installed my new firewall.
>re-downoaded and re-installed PlaneShift (using no-grass maps).
>re-tried most of the above.
>repartitioned, formatted and re-installed windows 2000, again with sp4.
>re-installed latest downoad of PlaneShift.

None of the above seemed to make any improvements.

It should be noted that after a crash, while PS server is still sending me packets, ps client is highly unstable even on the 'ping' screen.
I have to wait untill my ghost times out or psclient will most likely crash before i can log in again.
This applies even after a restart of windows (I boot fast).

I am out of ideas.  Other people do not seem to be having this problem.
My system is clean, and the problem -seems- to be related to people chatting around me, but I can't be sure.

Specs:
AMD Athalon 64 FX-51 2.2Ghz uniprocessor
Nvidia NForce 250 chipset
SII 3512 SATARaid running striped array
Nvidia Nforce networking controller (10/100)
Realtek rtl8169/8110 gigabit nic
Nvidia GeForce 7800gs vidcard (AGP 8x)
Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum sound

Any thoughts?

This topic is similar to my previous post a little ways down the forum.

Short form, psclient was bogged down.  Movement, mouse, and keystrokes in the chat window were severely delayed.
I was also crashing and hard-locking constantly.
Finally I discovered that my chat log was corrupt.  Normal for x number of pages then many many pages of garbage.
After I cleared my chat log, the game ran smoothly and for hours & hours.

Now, the update.  This time no bogginess.  Just crashing and hard-locking and blue screens of driver stop.
Chat log is fine.  This time, csdebug file corrupted just like the chat log was previously.

I deleted the csdebug file and played for a while longer.  I started chatting with someone at a remote mine (10-15 minutes i think).
While typing in the chat window, psclient hard-locked again.  I restarted my system.
My new csdebug file was corrupted again, just like before.

I'll re-post my specs:
Win 2000 professional, no service packs or frameworks added, fresh/clean install
AMD Athalon64 FX-51 single processor
Nvidia NForce 250 chipset (standard, not the enhanced)
SB Audigy2 ZS Platinum sound card
SII 3512 SATARAID controller
Dual 10k-rpm SATA drives running striped, multipartitioned, PS is on a fat32 drive
Geforce 7800gs agp8x video
Realtek RTL8169/8110 Gigabit Ethernet

I have 2 corrupted csdebug files to send in if anyone thinks that would be useful.
I would also like for others to check their chat logs and csdebug files after a crash.
If no one else has this problem... fdisk!

Come to think of it, other than these two issues i've mentioned, all my crashing in v19 and v20 have been while people are talking nearby.
Never crash alone.  Heh I think I'll put that in my sig.

Dead topic, I'm gonna redo the partition PS is on.

Yes, it was late and i was tired... I should've saved that logfile for you guys...

If it happens to me again I most definitly save it.
Maybe someone else will find a bad log file for you?  I woud be happy to test it on my system if you wish.
Just drop a post in the plaza and i'l find it.

I was in the plaza yesterday, crashing continously.  Every 30 secs to 2 mins, the client would crash out or hard-lock.
My screen and mouse (and keys, in the chat window) were all seriously laggy. Very bad lag.
Oh, and my audio was glitching, too.

Now, this almost never happens to me.  The grass in the plaza doesn't have much of an effect on my system (still don't like it though...) but i was sure that it wasn't grass related because:
i was still lagged and crashing when I was out of range of the grass.
A little bit of grass lag never delayed my chat text (what I type) for 1-2 seconds.
The grass never made me crash before.  Crashes were random, not related to the plaza.

I did a /who for about 60 players online.
Ping times were fine, a little better than average for me.

So, i went into the PS directory looking for some kind of cached or temp data to clean out, and noticed the size of my chat log.
Now, this is interesting.  i was playing a brand-new character, but my chat log was HUGE!

The first few pages were the norm, but as i scrolled down I found (500? 1000?) pages of garbage.  Totaly scrambled, non-text garbage.
Natrually I wiped my chat log, and re-opened it to veryify it was clean.
When i restarted PS.... smooth and flawless.  Played for hours.

Ideas?
The portion of psclient that writes out the chat log got stuck in a loop over some bad packet data?
Or maybe psclient was trying to find the 'last entry marker' in the chat log and was spending alll the CPU resources scanning garbage?
Dunno.  Either one would do it, i think.
