General Discussion / Re: VERSION 0.3.020 - WHAT IS NOT WORKING FOR YOU?
« on: October 16, 2007, 11:10:05 am »
Was just wondering if during these "blackouts" your having if you were traveling during the night time hours?

I ask mainly because i run windows and to be honest my computer isn't what you could call a top spec machine.

I just want to remind you that with the new lighting effects in the open ( not in a city)  it can get real dark, real quick and any area that would normally be a green hill side of cliff face is going to come out as pitch black.

Sorry to say friend but that image made my Bit Defender go nuts i suggest you change it for an old fashion URL link just to be on the safe side

 ::)

By the way whats the other game it looks way to familiar to me but i can't seem to place it.

From what you are saying you have a corrupt version of the game that your downloading this could have happened mid download or from one of the sources you got it from, the only suggestion i can make it delete what you have already got that includeds the bit torrent tracker file and start again with over 100 seeds it shouldn't take all that long.

Just please remember once you have the download to completely remove your old game, reboot, install and DO NOT RUN the UPDATER.

Good luck

It really very simple why it will take that long

Time and resources. All the people in the PS teams are here with no other reason than they want to be. there is no pay involved. So with limited time and resources it's a matter of what needs to be done first and since the new version works straight from the downloadable file without the updater it's not a priority.

so i know it's been said before but this is how you fix it.

- Remove your old client
- Download the new client
- Install the new client
- DO NOT RUN THE UPDATER ( yes the game will scream at you to do it but just like the wife/husband or parents when you want to play ignore them)
- log in and have fun

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Re: Crash at loading
« on: October 15, 2007, 07:48:07 am »
I have 2 simple questions for all the people experiancing this problem.

1. Did you charaters get logged out in an area that has been heaverly modded by the new update?
2. Are you running a RAM recovery program (i.e. Cacheman)

Although i'm not anything other than a player i have a fair amount of Exp with coding and use of simalar engines to the one that PS uses and from what i can make out as it stands. There may well be a global hash code conflict with your starting location. If this is the case then it is easy enough to fix however it would require the help of " the powers that be " better knows as a mod, GM , or GOD him self  ::|

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Re: Rapid Healing?
« on: October 15, 2007, 07:19:17 am »
I can't say that i have had this trouble , if anything i found that the monsters were dieing alot quicker than i'm use to.

It may well just be a temp bug from all the trouble that the game is going through trying to accept the new update.

Things i like after being in-game for an hour or two.

The new lighting is great the atmosphere it creates is great.
Finally the grass is grass and not blocked out areas
The new sounds, to be honest i normally play with no sound but since i read about the new sounds i put sound on and it adds so much to the " feel " of each area.

I haven't tried the tutorial as of yet although i intend to first chance i get.

All in all it's a great update, and guys don't get to down about whats wrong i have been in about 25+ alpha state games and the problems this one is having at the moment are just teething trouble compare to most.

Great job all  :D

Wish list / Re: yet ANOTHER transport idea
« on: October 13, 2007, 09:39:01 am »
Well i'll give you 20 out of 10 for creative  ;D

About the only application i can see for piggybacking is for injured or charaters in coma.
As for fall damage whethere you fall, jump or are dragged off a cliff your gonna get real messed up if not dead. no amount of " but he hit the ground first is gonna help ".
Lastly how would for argument sake a 4ft Dwarf give a 7ft Kran a piggyback even if he/she was strong enough.

Ok thats enough of me killing the idea so how about i breath a little life into it.......
Working on your basic idea of weight if you add in the effect of a counter lever which i'm sure you all know allows for a person to lift  multiply times their normal strenght would allow, how about hand pulled carts.

Bah just an idea that i'm sure has come up ( to be honest haven't checked other threads yet  :-\)

General Discussion / Re: A sense of direction
« on: October 13, 2007, 09:18:47 am »
I may well be as far from whats going on as i can be here, but i feel the need to give my view.

To start with as far as i can see the idea behind this thread is to evolve an idea, someone saw a base problem and the thread ( ideas) have evolved from there. where as the last post by Unnamed Source seems to want to de-evolve it.
We all have to remember that evolution is a good thing, after all without it PS would still be a dream inside someone ( /me bows my head in homage).

I can understand the point of landmarks being enough to start with and yes in the current PS world it may well be hard to get lost although i for one have done. And thats for a very simple reason, we can't always be in a place to see vast distance for example in a valley and i have found myself in a few.

The idea of having some math basic directional system is a good idea no matter what path it takes, After all there is a cartography skill and the more accurate the map the better in my opion. I'll leave you guys to discuss it and for the PS teams to sort out the refinements since all the Gods know i'm no great mind for such matters. I'm far happier with the light on my back and my flute playing softly.

General Discussion / Re: Say thank you
« on: October 13, 2007, 08:47:27 am »
I'd love to thank a hundered diffrent players from about 2 years ago that took the time to help me, If i could recall names i would but alas time and 15 or so other MMO's have shrouded there names.

But since i have been back i would like to thank Atir You have been far move helpful to me than i can say and in times when my keyboard and monitor were about to become one :@#\ you saved me from replacing them  :D

So to all i say simply if i can aid you i shall and if i ask for aid take pity.

Just so you know Atir if your not sure who this is my sig gives it away. I'll gladly play my flute for you anytime  :D

General Discussion / Re: What part of the event did you like the most?
« on: October 13, 2007, 08:34:56 am »
To be frank i didn't know any of the events were happening  :-[

I did notice that harnquist wasn't where i'm use to seeing him but no one could tell me where he was. Although i did catch the last message that was broadcast me and two others where mining diamonds and had a heart attack when we thought the NPC server was back on line with us trapped well below the temple.

What this tells me is that either for the 12hrs+ i'm online each day i'm blind  :detective: or there is a distinct lack of communication about events, i for one love to RP and quiet often will start a little banter while mining or smelting. It is a shame i missed it and will luck i'll make the next one.

From the screenshots i have seen of the events and the general opion it seems i am truley at a lose from not being involved. So what did i enjoy most about this event !
Finding out that there is finally a game ( in dev ) that RPers can enjoy.

General Discussion / Re: 020 release is coming.
« on: October 13, 2007, 07:07:35 am »
Well first off WooT !! For the update.

Fantasic job not just for this update coming but also for every update and base that all members of the PS team have brought to us.

/me starts to drowl waiting for 3.020

I just finished reading the interview with Luca Pancallo ( praise be thy name ) and WOW is all i can really say. I do only have one concern with what i read everyone is jumping up and down waiting and i think there is a chance that the floor may break before the update. I quote " We are now in the final testing stages and I think this may require few weeks more to release 020." ( page 3 bottom of 1st paragraph ). I truely pray it's not that long, and feel free to stamp on me if i have misquoted or misunderstood what was said.

Once again great job everyone at the PS teams but also to the players ( whom without there would be no gaming worlds)
See ya all in 3.020.

Ceja takes out he's flute and plays a Dwaven jig to stop from chewing he's fingers off.

General Discussion / Re: Vegetarianism Within PS, Pros and Cons
« on: October 09, 2007, 12:41:06 pm »
Well since i have only been back to PS for the past few days after about 2 years out i feel it's about time i go involved and this topic siuts me just fine.

Firstly Vegetarianism in PS is a intresting concept, true it could be tied into either race or religion to bring a new depth to the game. I for one would welcome anything that expanse the game further, and if your going to have vegetarians then would this also allow for pure meat eaters ( Carnivores ) ?
Secondly would a vegtable only diet sustain a charater for as long as meat would ? or would vegetarians have to consume meals more often or in larger quantities as is the case in RL ?
Third and last in my opion both of the human breeds would to the most part be omnivores ( if you need this one cleared up by a reason then i suggest you look at your teeth you have teeth natraully designed for both vegatable and meat).
