It is good to mention bugs like this in the bugtracker. Please in there describe exactly what you did. Since I spent some time on Laanx messing around with my inventory (including sacks) and having no problems, I wondered if it might be somethings else.
- did you both have problems with glyph sacks, or did zweitholou loose something else?
- was the server laggy at the time? It might be that it considered that you released it somewhere
- which brings me to something that might have been new in this release: you drop something where you point, which can be a bit away from your character. DId you look around you to see if it was dropped somewhere?

I saw the bug tracker, but wasn't certain how to proceed.

1) I lost glyph sacks, a pickaxe, and battle axe. However, all were restored when I logged backin 8 hours later.
2) Server did not appear to be laggy. Also, ther was no note that I had dopped them.

I added comments to the current thread in bug tracker. Thank you Lanarel for the link.

2
When I click on an item from my inventory screen, it disapears from my inventory. I discover this after losing my glyph sack with all of the glyphs in it.

3
The way to find out is to put a shield in one hand and the claymore in the other. If you do very little or no damage, it is bugged. My understanding is that most weapons with speed 1.50 are bugged and have been for an extended period of time.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Axe Making Guide?
« on: December 22, 2007, 03:44:54 pm »
I was wondering if there was an Axe Making Guide available, similar to the one for crafting swords. I have checked through the guides sections and didn't find one.

Thanks!

Interest rates will be hard to put in considering some people's playing schedules.  If take out a loan and don't play for a month one you come back will you be stuck and unable to pay the extra interest?  Or will some one just put all the money on alts and forget about them for a year.  So if that is going to come in-game we will need to work out some things.

The easy way to handle interested would be that it would be based on time logged in. Say you pay or get paid .05% interest per hour played.

One more thing to remember is that the people who respond to this poll and almost exclusively people who have had the determination to figure out the game themselves and/or the help of a guild. These people have succeeded in the game to some extent and are unlikely to leave because of the frustration the new people experience.

I think that the goal is to retain players who will not have the support of a guild and will get frustrated trying to figure out the game entirely on their own.

This must be considered when assessing the results of the poll.

In order to keep the new players the older players must try to remember what it was like when they started.

Are you suggesting a playerwipe?  :detective:

If you did that, many veterans would sleep like babies-wake up crying every two hours! ;D

I am pretty much whole-heartedly against the mandatory newbie guild idea, it would drive me insane having to be auto-placed in a newbie group whenever the mood strikes me to try out a new character type or I just need to make a roll character for some small part in an RP story line.

I also don't see how having a bunch of people that arguably will all have the same questions and none of the answers will really make it easier for a person to assimilate to PS, if anything it may only encourage a separation between new players and older players and reinforce poor RP habits due to the new players essentially leading the new players.

Who said alts couldn't leave the guild? Also, a few players might moniter the newbie tab on a volunteer basis. I have found that in a group of 5 newbies, one usually has the answer to a question (This road leads to Ojaveda. The cat city? Right! good job, newbie.) The really tough ones can be answered by those volunteers.

The other main options, the tutorial and the 'Adopt-A-Newbie' combinations aren't enough. The tutorial just doesn't cover transportation and training, and those would be difficult to impliment. A free crude map of the world handed out in the tutorial might help. But in the end, someone has to ferry newbies accross the world and help them gain pp. I like the guild for the simple reasons that newbies can be identified, and they can answer some of their own questions. Like someone said earlier in the topic, it is easier to cope with several newbies in the same boat as you. Now I must go. Someone, somewhere, is wondering why they must kill with a dagger to earn enough pp to train magic. And when they get a flying bat that takes them everywhere. And how come the hard monsters are guarding the gold. And how to get to the cat city. And...

I really think that this idea has some merit. If you automatically place newbies in a guild (that they can leave if they choose) it would encourage them to communicate and help each other out. Additionally, if a few veteran players could somehow monitor the guild chat, it would provide direction when needed.

As a new player, I still have lots of questions. Simple things like where do I get leather gloves can be very frustrating. My guild has been great at helping me. But if I would not have them, the game would have been incredibly frustrating.

I really don't think that you would need to worry about it being abused for communication by veteran players. Afterall, ultimately people will want to leave the newbie build for a regular guild or to go off on their own.

I found the game on Yahoo. I was looking for a free game.

However, I am not certain that you are asking the correct question. I believe that it is more of an issue with retaining new players, rather than attacting more people who will quit soon after they start. The keys to retaining new players are veterans being helpful and lowering the learning curve. By almost any standard, the game is very difficult for new people to get acclimated to.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Monsters not attacking back?
« on: November 14, 2007, 05:13:00 am »
Ok. I am trying to be vague enough not to make it a spoiler, but also would like clarification.
Is it against the rules to attack a creature that does not attack you back? I will provide details to a moderator or developer if it would be helpful, but I do not want want to cause any issues.

I quote our forum rules and game FAQ:

failure to read the FAQ before posting when the answer is in the FAQ will get your thread locked.

Ok, I am going to raise a objection here-missing 1 point of 37(2.7%), is hardly a reason to be rude and the tone of your comment is extremely rude.
If you want to lock the thread, fine. However, locking it without removing such a comment implies that you agree with it, which raises serious questions about your judgement-especially in light of the fact that you are moderator.

I understand that you are young (yes, 22 is very young!), and that inherently that means that you feel that you are correct, especially when combined with the fact that you have played the game for two years, however I will assure you that you must do a much better job of considering how others will react to you and your posts.

As stated many times, the game is pre-alpha and the forum search engine is archaic. I understand this. However, the inability for the forum search engine to properly identify that the question that was trying to answer, and for you to take the attititude that I should have found the answer is ignorant. Please try to understand that this game is quite a bit for any new player to attempt to digest. I did not make the post because I was too lazy to attempt to discover the answer. I made the post because I could not find the answer and after three days I was wondering what was going on.

I did not post after being locked in combat with a Rat for 30 minutes without the ability to hurt the rat or the apparent inability of the rat to hurt me. Neither did I complain when after being invinisible to rats and having killed a few of them, that I suddenly took 12 dmg then another 5 that got me sent to the Death Realm where I spent 4 hours trying to figure out how to leave, before being shown the way. Also, I did not post when I spent 8 hours trying to find the tavern.

You would have been much better off sending me a message, in game or out stating that the answer was in the FAQ, rather than try to defend the decision to lock the post and appear to treat me like a child.

I do not make a habit of criticizing others, especially those in authority. However, I do think that it is important for you to realize how your actions affect others. I realize that this will likely make no difference and you will continue with your current approach. But for the good of the game I felt that it was necessary to attempt to enlighten you.

I think that it is generally accepted that to things must occur if this game is to reach his potential.

1)   The game must continue to be developed. I understand that bugs are a necessary part of this process. However, I think that it is vital that some kind of effective system of maps must be implemented. I realize that there are some that would argue that this would somehow diminish the role-playing aspect of the game. However, I would argue that it makes up for the fact that in IRL, I can ask for directions and if I do not understand the directions that I am given, I can ask for further clarification. Also, there are many intricacies of real life that can not be duplicated in this or any other game. Maps are a small compromise to overcome these limitations.

2) The game must become more conducive to new players. Specifically, I am referring to the actions of some veteran players. I ran into an issue where I received the “(monster) is Impervious to Attack”. I received the message with several different characters, and trying to attack several different kids of creature. I searched for help on the forum. However as I am certain that most people are aware, the search system for the forum can be very challenging. Typically, there are either hundreds of uses of the key words, or very few and not necessarily useful.
After I gave up searching on the forum, I posted a request for help.

I am very new to the game, so please forgive me for the newbie question.

Whenever I try to attack rats or anything else, I get the message "Impervious to Attack" I have tried with several different characters with the same result. I received the same message in the intro mini-quest. I do not have any combat skills,  and my Str is 56.

If I can not attack rats, are the other options?

Thanks in advance for your help,

I received a wonderful response from Dajoji explaining that the NPC Server was off and an explanation of what that meant.

However, a veteran player decided that it was necessary to add the comment “Is our board search function defective?” Additionally, the post is now locked so that I can not clarify that IMO, the search function can be unwieldy, and yes, in fact, I did try to use the search function. While I realize that it may be tedious to see the same questions posted in the forum, quite frankly, I posted this in the Newbie Help section and you are probably going to see the same questions on a regular basis. If this bothers you, it might be better if you viewed the other sections of the forum and responded to more unique requests for assistance. As my mother said, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".

Incidentally, while it is very true that I am a newbie in this game, I am a veteran role-player. I have been playing role-playing games for 25 years and have reached top levels in other MMORPGs such as Runescape and Star Wars.
